what a weekend

With some nice weather, we've been able to have the windows open. In order to enjoy a little bit of a breeze through the condo, mom will open the slider in the kitten room and then set up the baby gate and open the door into the foster room. The kittens think this is great and Chanel likes to lay there and stare at the kittens. 

 Saturday and Sunday were busy for mom. There was an event at the partner store where mom cleans. Lane and Fate are currently there as well. We have partnered with them for 4 years and have done 99 adoptions. We were hoping to hit 100 before the event but no such luck.

Sunday was an adoption event at a local dog park. Mom took the bug kittens. They made it about 2.5 hours before the weather took a turn and everyone packed up to avoid getting wet.

Check this out too.....this little guy was found by himself in a parking lot of a convenience store. Mom saw him on Friday night and volunteered to bring him home and have him make friends with the bug kittens. It was funny though as mom was sure he was about the same size as the bugs but apparently size is relative and when he walked out of the crate she realized he is smaller than she thought. But he is holding his own with the bigger kittens and eating fine. Something happened to him at some point as his tail is about 3/4 length and missing the hair at the end and his one  back foot looks like it was injured at some point. But he isn't limping or anything, so no doubt he is fine and no lasting damage.

In keeping with the theme, mom decided to name him Firefly.

Random Fridays

In case you missed it on social media, yesterday we celebrated Daiquiri's 5th Birthday.

Mom is in the process of replacing all the "litter" boxes with new ones (we don't use regular boxes - she cuts the sides down on large storage containers). Two more to go and Daiquiri is currently using them as a fort.

That is one relaxed Goldfish.

Mom will be out and about most of the weekend. Fortunately Monday is a holiday plus she decided to take Tuesday off as a "mental health" day.

Saturday she will be local with one of the rescue partner stores to celebrate 4 years together and (hopefully) 100 adoptions:

Sunday is another adoption event, but the rescue isn't expecting big things from that one.

We know it won't last, but it has been nice here for a few days and mom has had the windows open. It gets a little warm in the condo by late afternoon but nothing terrible.

Big weekend event

Sorry this is a little late going up - mom was gone all weekend at a large adoption event both Saturday and Sunday. The event was 11-4 but of course as volunteers, that means set up on Friday, getting there early both days, not leaving until 4:30pm on Saturday and packing everything up on Sunday. Makes for a long weekend. Mom came home Saturday, had a snack and was asleep by 9:30pm. MOL

But there were lots of rescues, lots of local vendors for shopping and food trucks!!!

We didn't get any cat applications though we did get a couple of two of the dogs that we had there. Mom says events like these are sometimes more about exposure for the rescue and getting our name out there. Plus it is a great way to socialize kittens to dogs and loud noises and everything else. Sunday morning before they opened, there were sparrows flying around (the event was in a big arena building at the county fairgrounds) and the kittens were mesmerized. 

Random Fridays

If you are anywhere near Ohio, there is a big event this weekend at the Franklin County Fairgrounds. Fetch A Friend and Shop Local got together for a huge shopping and pet adoption event. 11-4 Saturday and Sunday. Mom will be out there both days with Colony Cats and is hoping to take Roomba and Cipher.

Mom is a little concerned about Anastasia. She is taking good care of the kittens but certainly isn't eating much to keep herself and 3 kittens going. Mom gave her some canned food Tuesday night and she ate it, ate most of another can Wednesday night but wouldn't touch anything Thursday morning. Mom spoke to the rescue and they may try an appetite stimulant just to jump start her.

Good news: Cipher is now neutered!! So he can be put on the website and we can start searching for his forever home.

In other news, Cipher seems to think it is a giant game to see if he can get OUT of the foster room before mom gets IN the foster room. The other night he made it out and mom gave up and left him out for a while as she spent time with Mopar and Fate and cleaned and fed everyone. She came back out and he was having a blast so she let him run around for a little longer. He headed down the steps and must have stopped a couple of steps from the top. Goldfish wandered over (keep in mind she did KNOW he was loose in the house), his head popped up over the edge of the steps, and Goldfish went FULL Halloween cat on him - though no hissing, just all fluffed up.

Mopar is still kind of suspicious of mom. She is thinking about maybe moving him to a smaller crate in the living room for a couple of days. It tends to work with scaredy/feral type kittens to help them friendly up some. Not sure WHY it works, but it tends to. Of course that will leave a very whiny Fate in the kitten room by himself if Cipher goes to the adoption event all weekend. Oh well - mom says she won't be home to listen to him complain about it. MOL

Random Fridays

Ummm - so a quick note. Mom was playing with the kittens last night and noticed something about Fate. Well, to be blunt, 2 somethings. Yep - she screwed up and Fate is a boy. So he is now wearing a blue collar and we will be dropping the "Miss" from his name. But he will forever be the #dangernugget

That Roomba - so judgy

There is a kitten shower tomorrow at the rescue (if you live near central Ohio, come visit - baked goods, cat stuff and KITTENS). Since Roomba is spayed and ready to go, she will go with mom. She even has a new pink collar with a bow tie to wear (don't tell her - we don't think she will approve). The rescue is hoping for a good turnout with lots of donations and adoptions.

misc stuff

It was seriously chilly here and it SNOWED!! Chanel spent a better part of Saturday evening watching the local snow plow clearing out our condo driveways. Mom went out Saturday morning but then came home and spent the rest of the day here.

Sunday she ran out, got to kiss Marzen and Kilkenny (who is still at the store and waiting for his time to come), cleaned at another partner store and then came home to watch basketball and yell at the TV. Nothing too exciting, but that is OK.

However, mom was out on Friday night at a fundraiser to help with TNR efforts. A local artists location opens up and they sell art and allow the rescue to sell cat stuff and the money goes to TNR funds. Mom was upstairs with the adoptable cats they brought. In face, the orange and white kitten named Hero was adopted by someone who met him that night.

weekend adoption event

Part of rescue is getting out to adoption events. This past weekend a local Subaru dealer sponsored a #More2Love event with several groups coming into their dealership. The weather was miserable but thankfully there was space inside for us to set up since we brought kittens.

At most of these events, we don't do adoptions. We will take applications, but since we check several things we generally don't send them home same day anyhow. Mom says these events are mostly to get our name out there and raise awareness.

Mom took Kilkenny and Sapporo since they are the two that are neutered. She took along Peroni since - let's be honest - she knows how to bring the cute. (BTW - mom weighed her on Sunday and Peroni weighed 1 pound 15 ounces....at 3 months old)

The kittens weren't very impressed, but then again, kittens are generally impressed by being stuck in a carrier and then into a crate at a strange location with loud noises.

This is Doug. He is about 6 months old and another volunteer picked him up from one of our partner stores and brought him over. He is super sweet and did great out on a leash and harness. He loves to snuggle and didn't even mind when a dog decided to clean his ears. Doug has been at the store for 2 months now and we have NO idea why he hasn't been adopted yet.

There was a local multi group adoption event on Saturday. It was sponsored by Pet Supplies Plus, a series of local pet stores. We have cats in 3 of their stores and set up a table at the event. It was their first try, so they need to work on some things, but it was a good first effort. Our group adopted out one dog and one cat, so it was good for us. Mom took Annatto and returned Myue to her foster mom.

Yeah...about that. Mom took Myue to the clinic on Friday. Turns out that "he" is a "she" and wasn't big enough for surgery. Oh well.....

Mom then took Annatto to another event on Sunday. The other volunteer brought an older mancat named Rambo who wasn't very interested in the young guy in the next cage.

Goldfish you ask???

Well, mom went to get her for surgery on Friday and Goldfish freaked out. Since she isn't ready to be adopted quite yet anyhow, mom decided to leave her home rather than have Goldfish freak out even more and do it at the clinic.

Mom did take her to the event on Sunday but Goldfish didn't come out of the carrier until they got back home.

adoption events

Mom spent most of the weekend at two different adoption events. On Saturday she and another volunteer took Bacall, Foxy and Mallard to a local apartment complex in the downtown area. They were doing a special if people wanted to adopt and also had sent out a notice about our wish list. The little girls were a little freaked out but settled in. Bacall was completed calm and really great about the whole thing. In fact, one of the manager got her out and she curled right up in his lap and snoozed.

On Sunday mom was at the partner store where she cleans. She put Bacall in with her siblings for a few minutes and it was like they had never been separated. She then gave Rooney a chance to be in the crate on the table with Bacall....he got a little wound up and was wrestling with her but it was still love. Not sure why there hasn't been much interest in Rooney and Harlow at the store, but hopefully soon. In the meantime, Bacall seems fine and will go up to the adoption center this week.

what's in the bag

It takes more stuff than you would think to haul kittens off to an adoption event. Crates, table, box of information and donation box, mom's chair, kittens...and their stuff.

Miss Julie from Cats Herd You gave mom this really nice canvas bag one year at Blog Paws. It is a great size and has long handles. Perfect for hauling around....stuff. Mom started out just throwing everything in there, but it was hard to find things and then things were getting lost or smooshed or duplicated. Time to get organized....

The purple blanket goes in first. Mom was thinking that she needs to get some pet safe wipes to add to the bag, so that is on the list. There are always paper towels and usually an old towel as well in the car, so mom does have other clean up stuff available.

How to organize the bag you ask?
Cheap pencil boxes. Yep....less than a dollar each as kids are going back to school. They line up nicely in the bag, are see through, stay shut, and are easy to manage.

The blue folder thingy holds her paperwork - applications, contracts, health records and the like. Since it all fits together and the bag is the right size, it has taken up a place in the car by the front seat. That way mom has stuff if she needs it and it is easy to get to when she heads off to an event. She just adds snacks and a drink for her and she is ready to go. (after loading all the OTHER stuff into the car)

Speaking of events, mom is going to be at a local apartment complex tomorrow promoting adoptions and giving out information. She will take Bacall and the little kittens.

Mom took Rooney and Harlow to an adoption event on Saturday morning. They did great - interested in the store and all the people and generally unfazed by the noise. After that, there was an opening at the partner store where mom cleans, so they are now up there looking to be adopted. Paws crossed. Mom did get a text from her friend that also cleans that they were all lovey on Sunday though some kitten did try to escape. MOL

Mom came home from the event and cleaned the foster room, transferring Panache and the kittens into there. Bacall was released into the house and we will tell you more about that later. So far the little kittens are seeming to enjoy having more space....and so is Panache. Bacall just can't seem to figure out why she can't get back INTO the room.

Weekend Report

Well, no adoptions at the event, but being out in public is always good too. The kittens were very well behaved and did great. But to get adopted, they have to be seen. So they will be headed up to the adoption center tonight and mom expects they will probably be adopted by the weekend. We will keep you posted as we find out.

Random Fridays

Places to go, things to do, kittens to jump on and bite

Mom thought she was being smart and tried to get individual pictures of the rat pack kittens to make herself a chart. She took several pictures with her phone and then transferred them into a document while she was at work. And she got....5 out of 6 kittens. Go mom!! MOL Actually, it was a pretty good idea, but since those little monkeys won't just line up and hold still, it was harder to accomplish than she thought. Now to just figure out who she is missing..... (she is thinking it may be better to grab her camera and take a picture, put that kitten in a carrier, next and so on)

If you are anywhere near central Ohio this weekend, there is a HUGE adoption event called Fetch A Friend being held at the Lausche Center at the Ohio State Fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 4pm. There is a $5 parking charge (paid to the fairgrounds not the rescues) but no other admission costs. Come see lots of rescues and vendors and maybe find a new furry friend. If you rent, bring a lease, if you have other pets, bring their medical records. Mom will be there with Colony Cats (she is taking the design kittens). There will be lots of rescues, vendors and other exciting things. If you can't attend, be sure to follow us on social media as mom will be posting as the day goes on.

Adoption event weekend

This weekend the Pet Valu stores that the rescue is partners with had a big adoption event this weekend. Mom packed up Dandelion and Cassis and spent Saturday and Sunday afternoons at the store where she cleans twice per week. No adoptions but she talked to some nice people and did get some donations.
