a girl and her favorite toy

Ivy LOVES this bed
mom moved it to a different spot (this one)
and Ivy spends a lot of her time on it now

We have mentioned on social media that Miss Dragon wasn't feeling so well. She has a virus called calici - which makes her stuffed up and also causes lesion (sores) in her mouth. She wasn't eating for several days and mom was having to syringe feed her. Despite not feeling well, Dragon has some serious ninja skills and mom has been sliced up by the baby claws (yes Dragon got a manicure - no it doesn't make much difference). Thankfully Dragon has started eating again on her own and we seem to be over the hump with her. One side of her nose is pretty swollen so she whistles while she breathes and HATES getting her nose cleaned. Her mouth is still pretty sore but it is being managed. And she screams like a lunatic when Gargoyle jumps on her trying to play.

Well, it is about that time....the kittens go on Monday to be spayed or neutered. They are certainly ready to have more space to run around and families of their own. Mom tried to get them to cooperate for "school pictures" to have for their profiles. You can see how well that turned out.

Cricket
places to go, things to do

Hopper
can you get ANY closer

Beetle
at least someone cooperated

All three of these kittens are super sweet and outgoing. They LOVE to play with any toy they can find - or just things they find that aren't really toys. They are 3 months old and have met the adult cats here with no issues (from them - Daiquiri of course had issues - LOL).

so I don't like kittens....sue me

Random Fridays

he is cute
but he is giving mom heartburn
There seemed to be some....poop issues....going on in the kitten room. Everyone had been dewormed so mom was baffled. In an effort to change course, she switched them to raw for about 10 days (leaving out kibble since she is gone all day and they are still little). After about 3 days, things seemed to get better. Then the raw food supply ran out (bound to happen - it ain't cheap, mom ain't rich - and honestly they can't be on it forever and go to our adoption center). The older kittens still seems fine but SOMEONE is having issues again. So, back to meds. Mom did renew our supply of panacur with the rescue. The head lady said she didn't think it went bad....mom laughed and said it was so old it was partly solid (why no, that couldn't POSSIBLY be the problem).

these 2 on the other hand
are TROUBLE

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Goldfish LOVES toys. But she found this one and carries it around the house - mom has taken to calling it her baby. She will occasionally announce that she found it and has brought it to bed on occasion as well.
Random Fridays
In case you missed it on social media, yesterday we celebrated Daiquiri's 5th Birthday.
Mom is in the process of replacing all the "litter" boxes with new ones (we don't use regular boxes - she cuts the sides down on large storage containers). Two more to go and Daiquiri is currently using them as a fort.
That is one relaxed Goldfish.
Mom will be out and about most of the weekend. Fortunately Monday is a holiday plus she decided to take Tuesday off as a "mental health" day.
Saturday she will be local with one of the rescue partner stores to celebrate 4 years together and (hopefully) 100 adoptions:
If you are around central Ohio, stop by the Graceland Pet Valu. And if you know someone in the area looking to adopt, send them our way.
Sunday is another adoption event, but the rescue isn't expecting big things from that one.
We know it won't last, but it has been nice here for a few days and mom has had the windows open. It gets a little warm in the condo by late afternoon but nothing terrible.
Have a great weekend!!
the windows are open and Ivy plans to sleep away the weekend
not sure what Goldfish is looking for in the basket
apparently Daiquiri wonders the same thing
~~~~~~~~~~~
Mom is going to have to come up with some sort of airlock system for the foster room. Wednesday morning Bissell shot around mom, out the door and slapped a couple of cats until mom was able to herd her back into the room.

~~~~~~~~
Mom and Chanel had an "exciting" weekend. Saturday evening Chanel came down the hall with blood all over the foot where she lost the nail. Mom grabbed her and it wasn't the nail bleeding but from the top of her foot. WHY ON A SATURDAY??? Chanel was shoved in the carrier, mom grabbed some stuff, and off they went to the ER vet (along with a friend to keep mom company). Turns out that in addition to the nail, Chanel must have also been bitten by Bissell and it abscessed. Several hours later, she was released from the ER vet. Bandage change on Sunday at a local vet and then saw our vet on Tuesday. The problem is that it looks like she got several teeth involved - there is a wound on the bottom, the top and the side. Which makes keeping it clean a challenge. SO it has been bandaged since Saturday and we see our regular vet this afternoon for our next step.
Random Fridays
Mom is slowing learning a few things about Bissell. She is still weird about hands and those cats outside the kitten doors. However, she must have lived in a house before since she KNOWS what a bag of treats means. And...she is very food motivated. Chanel was standing outside the foster doors and Bissell got "the look". But mom shook the treat bag and Bissell was all "oooo....cookies". Mom did get Bissell's nails trimmed. YAY!!! For a momma cat, she is a little weird. The kittens can scream about being lonely or held or whatever and she doesn't seem to get wound up. One sign of a cat on the other sign of those doors though and it is game on.
We have teeth coming in, so mom is going to make sure there are baby litter boxes and plenty of food available. Kittens that are nursing seem to take longer to decide they want to eat on their own so they will start when they get motivated. Bissell is spending more and more time outside of the box and away from the kittens, so it is definitely time for them to start learning.
Fortunately they can't get out of the box yet. Mom does have a confession though....she got the genders wrong again. In her defense, she claims it is the first litter of the year and she is out of practice. Whatever. So: Roomba is a girl, Hoover is a girl, Dyson is a boy. Oops
wait for the end...apparently Bissell ate just a little too fast
Random Fridays
Is it just us or does Chanel always look like she just woke up from a 3 day bender??
Have a safe and hopefully warmer weekend (for those of you in the midwest and north).
Random Fridays
we don't think that bear is going back in the foster room
make sure to keep your tuxedo cats properly organized
(and she is going to be disappointed when mom finally
gets around to putting all her books back on the shelves)
As most of you know by now, Daiquiri has a "minor" obsession with foam soccer balls and spring toys. She will play with other toys, but those two are her favorites. She has a stash....somewhere.... and mom has found several under the sofa more than once.
Well, the floors are proving to be even more fun with the springs since now they really fly all over the place.
We got nothing.....seriously. It has been a weird week and it is cold so Chanel hasn't been going out.
Here - enjoy this that mom posted to instagram:
we've had that cube for years....it somehow got flattened
notice someone doesn't really care
spyin' on the neighbors
shrimpin'
Should be a fairly quiet weekend around here - if you can ignore the mom yelling at the tv while she watches basketball.
No kittens yet....pretty much too cold here and too early. However, if you need a kitten fix, our friends over at Love and Hisses have some cuties (just born 2/13)
Oh - and mom took Chanel for Valentine's pictures and they were processed:
Random Fridays
judgy cat likes to judge YOU
feel the love (Chanel snuck up on Daiquiri)
Things are still being moved around the living room. The Kitty Kasa (see above) used to be by the bookshelf. Mom is trying to create a "run" along the window wall so we can see out but also get from point A to point B. That said, she moved the Kasa over under the one window and next to the sofa. And....for the first time ever Ivy climbed in to check it out. Proving once again it can be all about location. MOL
How to scare the mom at 6am:
The transitions from the new floor to the areas that still have carpet haven't been completed yet. Apparently the installation guys are not the carpet transition guys. That appointment has been made.
However, the closet door at the top of the steps was taken off and can't be put back on until that is done. Rather than chasing cats out of the closet all the time, mom took the door and has it leaning against the door frame.
Now, mom can't be CERTAIN if a cat was involved or not (you take your best guess), but Thursday morning there was a HUGE bang from the living room. Mom jumped out of bed, and using every 4 letter word she knows and some she made up, dashed through the condo. Turns out the door had fallen and the bang was it hitting the floor. No damage to the door, the floor or any cats. But it sure got mom's heart racing.....
how Chanel plans to spend the weekend
(though let's be honest, this is how she spends most of her time)
Goldfish had been in the Sleepypod, climbed out, stretched
and then laid down right there and went back to sleep
Thanks for all the positive feedback on our Wednesday post. Thankfully most applications are good, people care for their pets and we can do adoptions smoothly.
~~~~~~~~~~~

To answer some questions about the cat cafe:
1. The tree by the window in the pictures is on a tension rod from the floor to the ceiling.
2. Most that we have heard of charge an entrance fee to cover their costs with anything left over helping the rescues they support. Most of them aren't very expensive - this one was $10 for an hour.
~~~~~~~~~~~
We have gotten some snow and it was BITTER cold for a few days. Sunday night mom was in bed reading and the snow removal people were outside cleaning the condo drives. Goldfish was not very happy that there was banging and noise outside the condo. She was on the bed with mom but jumpy with all the noise. However....mom would call her name or whistle to get her attention after a bang and Goldfish would settle back down and let mom pet her. This went on for about 30 minutes - until there was a REALLY big bang and Goldfish ran out looking for a better hiding place. But still - mom was very proud of her being brave.
~~~~~~~~~~

Speaking of Goldfish, taking a page from Daiquiri, she taught herself to play fetch. She will bring mom a mylar ball to throw sometimes. Mom is allowed to sit up in bed but not go too far. Of course the girl would also pick the toy that doesn't fly very well. But mom got thinking last night - she wonders if cats think the fetch thing is weird? They bring people their toy having killed it, and those weird people throw it far away and the cat has to bring it back AGAIN!!  haha
   *interestingly enough, a cat behavior expert answered a very similar question this week over at The Conscious Cat

the girls
They love that the table is there. Add the curtain, the bed and a floor vent
and this spot is usually occupied by at least one cat.

really?? that is comfortable??

We have the cold and snow coming again this weekend. Mom says it better hold off cause she has plans for Saturday and she doesn't want them screwed up.

Hope the rescued girl continues to make progress. It is slow going but she is learning to trust again.

We fooled you - there are 4 cats in that first picture:

The love affair continues

Holy moly it got cold here. Yeah - we know we live in the mid-west and it is January. But it was 60F on Tuesday....and 24F yesterday.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you live near central Ohio and want something to do tonight, come check out some art and cats at The Amazing Cat Show IV in Columbus. Mom will be there with adoptable cats (of course).
Random Fridays
We hope all of our US friends had a good turkey day yesterday. Since mom stayed home, she made chili....which we are led to believe is not traditional. MOL
all five kittens - though not a great picture
all packed up and ready for shipping
Goldfish is just learning about this Amazon thing and is
amazed at the things you can buy online
A friend sent us some things and the one box didn't make it out of the living room. It has been occupied by every one of the girls at one point or another. So far Daiquiri hasn't started shredding it yet either, so it can stay until the destruction princess does some damage.
Mom hasn't seen Allie our feral girl in a few days. But she did see a brown tabby come out of the garage Monday night when she was coming home. She is going to give him/her a few days to get comfortable and then set the trap to get the cat fixed.
Random Fridays
Balashi sees what you did there
this was mostly just a fuzzy picture of Kilkenny
until mom realized who lurked in the background (Marzen)
no idea why Guinness always looks so concerned
ok - maybe not ALWAYS
the bigger boys - Kilkenny and Marzen
Well, the kittens will be here for a little while longer. Marzen and Kilkenny are both available for adoption and on the website. However...everyone has a cold. It started with runny eyes and now everyone is sneezing and on meds. We caught it early enough that there isn't much snot and everyone is still eating like heathens, but they can't be neutered or go back to the adoption center in this state.
Goldfish continues to make some progress - even if it is baby steps. She was up on the bed a couple of times this week while mom was reading. Of course, she was all lovey one night and then the next morning gave mom the airplanes ears of annoyance. She hasn't gotten back on mom's lap since that first time, but she did park herself on the blanket on the floor last weekend when mom was watching TV.
Random Fridays
We mentioned on Monday that mom was gone last weekend. She took 4 days and spent some time with some friends out west. They had a wonderful time together - sightseeing, shopping, eating and talking.
Rumor has it she may have kissed this cat....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Goldfish has been loose in the house now since Monday. She is doing very well with Chanel. Ivy ignores her and Daiquiri hisses at her - so about normal around here. Mom does think that Daiquiri may be enjoying Chanel getting run over by Goldfish however....something about karma.

Wednesday afternoon something very interesting happened. Mom wasn't feeling good so she stayed home from work. She had noticed a few times that Goldfish seems to like to nap in the chair that mom uses when she is home. Well....mom was sitting there with a blanket on her lap (it is chilly here) and the next thing she knew, Goldfish jumped up and sat on her lap. Mom didn't even breathe. And then....Goldfish curled up and snoozed. Mom did pet her a few times...very slowly. No idea how long it would have lasted, but a truck in the parking lot made a big noise and Goldfish got startled and took off for a safe space.

And unless you think she is "cured" - mom accidentally cornered her in the kitchen later that day and Goldfish bounced off the cabinets and ran out of the room like she was on fire. Oh well....mom is willing to take whatever progress she can get from that kitten.
