it is that time

Well, they have been here a while,  but it is just about time for our Texas refugees to find their forever homes. They are so super sweet that we hope they get adopted extra quick. They were dropped off this morning for their spay/neuter surgeries and will be ready to go. There are adoption events this weekend and they will go with mom then next week head up to the adoption center. They are very purry and lovey and just adore people. They were a little freaked out this morning at the clinic but that was mainly the big barking dogs (with dumb owners).

the log cabin

Every year Target (no affiliation or sponsorship - we bought our own house) has a new house for sale. They started out pretty basic and just for Christmas but have expanded from there. Mom wasn't planning to buy one this year, but we have trashed all the others and it does get used, so she broke down and got us the log cabin (apparently there is also a sky chalet, but this was all that was available at the store she where she was shopping).

doing it weird

So far everyone has had a chance and it is usually occupied. Chanel was actually the last one to get the right to use it...stay tuned to tomorrow to see her opposition.

long weekend

We had a 4 day weekend here in the US and mom decided to take it off. Well sort of. She gets off from work for the holiday anyhow, but took a break from some other things.
This was a popular "sport" over the weekend.

Mom was invited to spend Thanksgiving with some friends. She didn't drive to be with family as it is a lot of time on the road. They had a nice dinner and she spent some time over there after dinner just chatting.

That is Ivy's favorite spot right in front of the floor vent.

The rescue had an anonymous donor sponsoring adoptions this weekend, so mom was at the adoption center Friday night helping out. She is also still working on their database, so she spent some time scanning documents and uploading things to that as well.

Of course, napping, tv watching and sports were also on the agenda. Mom spent time playing with the Texas kittens and took Chanel out on Saturday afternoon. She did do a little shopping but waited until Saturday. Otherwise it was a nice quiet few days off. Of course, she says that means this week will seem all that much longer. We have no idea what she is talking about. MOL

Texas kitten update

Well, we are hoping (knock on wood, cross your paws) nearing the end of the snot. It was pretty epic though. Bless those kittens - they stayed friendly and purry the entire time. The meds helped though they disliked the nebulizer (we think it is probably the noise).

Marfa apparently had other places to be that didn't involve the kitten room. And check out the behind in that last picture over by the food dish. Yep - Chanel has figured out there is kitten food in there and makes a run into the kitten room every time mom goes in. Which is hilarious considering now that they are feeling better, the Texas kittens run OUT of the kitten room every time mom goes in. Thankfully they come right back either for attention or for canned food.

We wish all of our US friends a Happy Thanksgiving. Mom decided not to travel again this year, so she will be around most of the weekend. However, she got a new laptop AND is working on the database for the rescue, so we doubt we will get as much attention as those two things. MOL

calendar review

This month we got a request to review a calendar from Chewy.com. They are starting to have stuff for pet people on their website and wanted mom to take a look.

Disclaimer: we did receive the book and calendar at no charge, but that doesn't affect our review. All opinions expressed are our own (or mom's in this case).

The Mom here....

I love me a good wall calendar. I hang it up in the entry to the kitchen and it helps keep me on track. Look - for me, if it isn't written down, it doesn't happen. So...payday, volunteer days, rescue events. Those are all on there. Plus...kittens arriving, vaccine dates, spay dates. The whole thing tracks what is going on in the house.

Of course, cute factors in as well and this one is adorable. The spaces are big enough that I can write in my notes and whatever and sturdy enough to hang on the wall. LOVE IT!

As a bonus, I also got a book with a similar theme. It is a small size and the pictures are adorable. I do love books like this - something cute to flip through and take your mind off of things.

So, next time you place your pet food order, get something for yourself.

Blueberry

Seriously, could he get any cuter??

He is off to be neutered today and then will go up to the adoption center. He really has come out of his shell being loose in the house for the last couple of weeks. He and Chanel have a blast playing and he sleeps on the bed with mom. Some family is going to be very lucky to adopt him.

Random Fridays

Well, winter may not have "officially" arrived here in the midwest, but dang it got cold. We've even had some of that white stuff fall from the sky and may see some again this weekend.
If you look closely, you can see the floor vent under the arched scratcher. Mom moved the scratcher over there and Mozart used to use it as his mancat cave. Yep - he would crawl in there and sleep ON the vent. What mom discovered in the meantime is that with no cat sleeping on the vent, it does direct the warm airs out into the living room some. And when she looked over the other day, she found two lazy girl cats sleeping like this. (and she would like you to know the house is NOT set that chilly)

~~~~~~~~~~~
The Texas kittens are much less snotty and seem to be feeling better. In fact, for the first time in over a week, they made an escape attempt out of the foster room into the living room. Fortunately they come right back when they hear the sound of the food can opening. Still another week or so of meds, but they are on the right track.
The goal is to get Blueberry neutered next week too.
that was interesting
As most of you know by now, mom tries to take Chanel out at least once on the weekends to keep her social and used to being in the car and on the harness. The problem of course is that it is now COLD here and there are only so many places mom can take her.
They went out last Sunday and the final stop was the rescue's partner store so mom could clean the cat cages. Chanel was allowed out of her carrier and mom made sure to stand on the end of the leash to keep her from going too far (she doesn't wander very far anyhow, but better safe than sorry).
A nice lady came over and knelt down to greet Chanel. Mom introduced them and after a minute or so, the lady asked if Chanel has a head tilt (it sometimes isn't obvious unless you catch her sitting still). Mom said she does and explained the background story. Turns out the lady is a vet tech for a local specialty vet hospital in....their neurology department. They spoke a while about the tilt and the lady explained what they would have to do if mom wanted more info (the first step would be to knock Chanel out and get an MRI). Mom said if she thought it bothered Chanel she would do it, but that while she does sometimes fall off of things and can't walk in a straight line, she doesn't seem to be bothered by it - she doesn't paw at her ears or shake her head or anything else. The lady agreed that Chanel looks good. It was just kind of funny to have an accidental run in with someone who has the medical background.
Oh - and they did run into a big dog at another store. Mom and his owner spoke and he was allowed very slowly to come up to the cart where Chanel was sitting. She got a good look, hissed and raised the paw of doom....but didn't freak out much so mom says that is a good sign.
new stuff
We got a surprise package in the mail - all the way from The Poupounette in France!! It seems we won their blogoversary give away. Of course, it took mom a couple of days to remember to bring it upstairs from the car....and then to actually OPEN it!!
Package inspector Daiquiri
hmmm....cat stuff and people stuff
Mom hasn't opened the one toy yet, but we have enjoyed the other toy and the treats and the mat. The tan material with the black and white cat looks like it is supposed to be a placemat, but mom thinks it is too cute and is going to try to find a frame and hang it up.
Thanks to #1 and all our French animal pals for the gifts!!
Blueberry
Mom decided on Friday to let him loose in the house. He is older and vaccinated...plus it is added protection from the mass snot that the Texas kittens have discovered and are dealing with right now.
His first night out he snuggled most of the night on the bed. Since then he has been coming and going but makes an appearance. He discovered the strawberry bed on Sunday.
He and Chanel have been having a blast together. She will run him over occasionally, but he gives as good as he gets.
He will come over and ask for attention, though he is still a little shy. The minute mom grabs him though he PURRS and purrs. He was going to be neutered today but was just snotty enough that mom didn't want to risk it. Hopefully next week.
Random Fridays
Ivy looks like she has the right idea:
Mom will be at an event in town on Saturday. If you are around central Ohio (especially if you need some new ink), come see her from 10am to 2pm at Envy Skin Gallery, 1528 Bethel Rd., Columbus.
Otherwise it is supposed to be chilly, though mom wants to get Chanel out on Sunday sometime. And there was mumbling from mom about basketball AND football on TV. sigh....
picking fights
Blueberry just laying around minding his own business
When along comes one of those pesky little Texas gangsters
"gotcha"
oh geez....now there is two of them
listen kid....
Blueberry is bigger than the Texas kittens, but that doesn't stop them from picking a good fight with him on a regular basis. He gives as good as he gets, but he is certainly outnumbered. Fortunately they haven't figured out they can gang up on him....yet
