weekend update
It was a pretty quiet weekend. Jericho is now with our friend Miss Beckie. Mom is abandoning us for the holiday weekend and was concerned about leaving Jericho for the weekend with just the pet sitter coming in. And he was pretty snotty and mom wanted to be sure someone was watching him. Of course, that means she has to clean the bathroom....he has some projectile snot. MOL
Otherwise, mom decided to do some reorganizing in the kitchen. She cleaned out the pantry and put down some lining and then put things back....for some reason she kept saying non of us were a whole lot of help.
Otherwise, it warmed up a bit here - not enough to open the windows, but the snow is gone.

Random Fridays
In addition to the gingerbread house, mom bought some snowflakes to put on the window. So far we have lost 3 - Mo took two down and one fell off cause the window is so cold.

Our friends at the White Dog Diary are part of a charity call Paws to People ... set up charitable funding to help find cures for cancer in pets along with other diseases through comparative studies as to how diseases effect everyone - people and pets. They have an auction going right now on their facebook page (click here) - you need to like the page so they can contact you if you win. The click on an item you want to bid on and leave a note. We have bids on a couple of things.

Our friend Miss Andrea of Celestial Kitties - mom to Leo, Glitter and Cashmere, is having another FUNdraiser to help Miss Chrystal and the kitties of Winnie's Wish. This year it is beds and they look awesome!!
~~~~~~~~~~~
We've had some questions about the "magic" microchips. Here's the deal - Tim, Tom and Mo were not microchipped when they were adopted. Some time after that, a local vet with the university here was doing a study on cat collars (you can read the study here). As part of the study, the boys had to wear collars for 6 months and were microchipped for free. No one said anything about them taking temps. The first time our mobile vet came, she scanned one of the boys and couldn't figure out why the number was flicking back and forth...then realized one was the chip number and the other was a temp for the cat. How cool??? Only, she said later she checked with the chip company and they claim to have no idea and don't market the chips that way..... which sounds weird to us. In case you want to check, the boys all have Home Again microchips.
our new house....
Last week mom saw a post from the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee about a gingerbread house available at Target (she tried to find a link and couldn't find it online). For $10 she decided she had to do it. Well...it was easy to put together (though she suggests using some tape to reinforce the inside corners so that somecats don't wreck the house).
Mom ended up getting some stickers from the store and decorated the front and sides. She has a bazillion pictures and we have only had the house for a few days. MOL
Sangria checking out the interior - deciding if it needs some work or not
Mo and Tim check out the front door, Stoli decides to use a window
So far everyone has checked it out.
Daiquiri and the rest of the kittens like to go in and out of the windows.
roof inspection
(appears to hold up under a 2 pound kitten - adults not approved)
Some kittens have even tried to get in from above.
Hey you guys - only Santa is supposed to climb down the chimney!!!
a new basket
At BarkWorld, Miss Amy from Sebastian's blog won a prize. It was in a nice basket, but Miss Amy was flying, so she gave the basket to mom. Mom brought it home and put a blanket in it for the kittens. umm....yeah, about that.....
Stoli climbed in and it flipped - no one has been in it since. MOL Mom says she wants to find a smaller blanket to put in and see if the kittens will sleep in it then.
Mo checks it out first to be sure it is OK
snoopervised by Daiquiri and Kahlua
weekend wrapup
Mom did some shopping on Friday. The ess has been retired but she found this great arch at Target. Plus it was on sale....so far so good.
Mom was at the Petsmart National Adoption weekend on Saturday. She picked up a kitten from the rescue vet...he was down there to help socialize a kitten they found. Unfortunately, Doug doesn't like Jericho, then Jericho got the snot. So he spent a couple hours curled up at Petsmart with mom and is now in the bathroom. The other 4 kittens are out during the day and mom set up the playpen for them at night.
We have the "omg it is cold" going on here. We are lucky that we are all indoor cats and have those warm air floor vents. Mom did some work in the garage to clean up the bedding for Allie (and whomever else wanders in) and get the crates used for shelters into better positions.
Random Fridays
A friend of mom's sent her this link to all things Michigan (which is where mom was born and raised until age 13 - still has family there). It kind of cracked her up....oh, and that first picture you see - the only reason Hell looks so nice is it hasn't frozen over yet for the year. MOL
Our buddy Crepes is starring in a new movie - Smash Bros. you gotta check it out!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OMC - have you seen the video put out by Tidy Cat about #kittentherapy and stress relief?? No?? you gotta check it out here Be prepared to spend some serious time watching kitten videos though :)

Yep - that is Kahlua getting her we don't know quite what on..... She is just about big enough to be spayed, so that is on the agenda.....
It is seriously cold here now.....please stay safe and warm - and take care of your pets and neighbors.

a NOT adventure
We have posted before that our normal vet is mobile and comes to the house. YIKES!!! However, it does reduce car rides and stress for most everyone. But, recently their hours have gotten strange and it kind of seems to mom that maybe the vet is no longer doing much vetting. Since she loves the vet ladies who help out the rescue, she is going to start transferring all our stuff over there.
Tim and Tom have been pretty snotty for a while. Mom tried all her tricks and nothing seems to be working, so she made an appointment on Monday to haul them off and have them checked over. Mom says her problem is that she is so used to dosing little kittens that dosing us big cats is a whole different math problem.
Tim and Tom would probably prefer to ride together, but that has a two pronged problem: we don't actually have a carrier big enough for both of them....and how to you get one to stay in while putting the other in and avoid everyone getting away? So...they went in separate carriers.
There was much singing and carrying on from the back seat according to mom.
Once there, she let them out but mainly the boys found a corner and hid. The tech (a new one) came in and got their weights (Tom 11.5 pounds, Tim 12 pounds....mom was SHOCKED). And...mom got to amaze the tech with their magic micro-chips. Yes ladies and gentlecats - Tim, Tom and Mo don't have to have a thermometer shoved in indecent places. Their microchip shows their number and then their temp. How cool right???
Anyhow, Tommy sounds like Darth Vader (whoever that is) and both have the sneezes. So they are on meds for a short term and then will get to make ANOTHER car ride to get their vaccinations and maybe a "senior" mancat blood draw.

wordless Wednesday (or not)
**So about Stoli and Sangria....
The plan was for them to be adopted from the Petco store. However, there are 2 cats there now and no one was getting along. So mom picked the kittens back up Monday night. She is checking with the rescue and hopefully there is a tower available at the adoption center and they will go up there to find their forever home.

Opt to Adopt - Happy Tail
Mom was going to post about a 7 year old boy at the shelter where she volunteers. Aiden was brought in as a stray. Not neutered but super nice and very handsome brown tabby. She spent some time with him last Tuesday night and he was happy just to sit and have his ears scratched.
But then something happened last Thursday on the night when she volunteers that she wanted to touch on....and it involves Aiden.
Any reputable rescue has a return policy. And ask anyone involved in rescue how they feel about returns, and they will more than likely roll their eyes. Cause we have all heard the "had the kitten for 24 hours but it was too active" story. Or "we had the cat for 2 days but it wouldn't come out from under the bed" story. "We're moving". "We're pregnant". Whatever.....rescuers tend to get a little cynical cause we have heard it all and then some.
But what about legitimate returns? When the adopters have tried everything, asked for help, tried some more and it still isn't working? Those are returns that, while we never like to see animals come back, we understand.
Such was the case last week. A very nice lady brought back a cat they had adopted about 3 weeks before. He got along great with the family. Loved the family dog. Terrorized the 7 year old female family cat. They had done the introductions right. Tried separating them and introducing them again. Nope - he stalked the older lady cat and was making life miserable for everyone. The lady said over and over she felt so guilty but didn't know what else do to. Mom got talking to her and assured her - the pets in the house have to come first. It isn't fair to resident animals to be terrorized in their own home.... so mom took the boy back and set him up.
When mom came back up front, the lady was still there. She wanted to rescue and adopt but was now concerned about doing the right thing. Mom smiled and took her to meet Aiden. It was love. Now, since most people bring back and animal and run, no one was sure about doing an exchange. So an email was sent and the director responded the following morning that everything sounded fine and she would contact the woman.
Aiden went home Friday night.....
So it isn't always about the first pick....but about the right pick. And like dating, it may not always work out on the first try. Good luck Aiden - we got a good feeling about this.

weekend report
Well, there was another hound in the Beetle....
This is Leonard and he was on his way from a boarding facility that helps out OBR to a foster home. He was rescued with his love Lily who went to her home on Saturday as well. But in her case it is hospice....they are both young, but the vet found several tumors in Lily and a nice family decided to take her in to give her as much comfort as possible in her last few months. Leonard however is super sweet and available for adoption - he needs to put on some weight and gain some comfidence, but otherwise is doing great.
Speaking of hounds, remember Nala that mom helped move? She was adopted by her foster mom (in less than an hour after arrival) and is now Clover living with another 6 year old bloodhound named Humphrey. She fits right in and is giving Humphrey a run for his money. :)
Mom took Stoli and Sangria to the Petco for an adoption event on Saturday. There was an open cage, so they didn't come back with her. It is a little quiet with just Daiquiri and Kahlua here now. Hopefully the kitts will get adopted quickly....

games with cats
While at BarkWorld, Miss Julie introduced the kittens to games on her iPad.....
Mom says it is an easy way to entertain some cat ladies....the kittens took a little bit to get the hang of it, but were kind of fascinated. Mom said it would be funnier if the screen were bigger.
Not much going on here this weekend.....adoption event tomorrow that Sangria and Stoli should be attending. And the moving of another hound on Saturday morning. Mom mentioned something about napping on Sunday. YEAH!!!

BarkWorld/MeowWorld report
As we reported last week, mom traveled to Atlanta to BarkWorld/MeowWorld. She left Wednesday and took Sangria and Stoli with her. Sangria protested the first 90 minutes of the trip before settling in for the ride.
They stopped overnight at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Their back hallway has a pocket door, so the kittens had run of that space. The dog stood guard most of the night...they weren't introduced but he KNEW they were back there.
Sangria insisted on singing the song of her people about half of the trip the next morning to Atlanta. Fortunately she settled down after that. Stoli was good both times - just minor meeps to accompany his sister.
Mom was rooming with Miss Julie from Sometimes, Cats Herd You and she wanted to love on the kittens.... who took one look around the room and hid under the bed. MOL However, mom took Sangria down for registration and Stoli down for the intro party. He was pretty freaked out, but then Miss Deb from Chronicles of Zee and Zoey got her hands on him and put the mojo on him....he actually fell asleep on her lap!
Mom says she has to be honest....the conference itself was kind of a bust. There was one seminar she went to and enjoyed (done by Miss Alana of Cat in the Fridge) about videos. Mostly mom said it was a great weekend to hang out with other cat lady friends she has met online (and some in person before). There were so many, the list would be huge, but mom says it was great to see everyone.
The kittens were well behaved. Sangria got out more than Stoli since being out made him very nervous. But in the room, they relaxed after the first night and were bouncing on both beds. Even when people came up to the room to see them, they would hide at first and then come out and play and enjoy being loved on by everyone.
They even got to meet the famous Glogirly and Waffles!!! In case you have been living under a rock, Waffles' face is now on a can of Mike's Harder Apple Firebomb. How cool is that????
There was a party (the kittens weren't invited) but they got to meet Waffles the following afternoon. You can see more pictures at the Glogirly site and A Tonk's Tail - mom was supervising the kittens and didn't get many pictures (Miss Connie took the one below for mom using mom's camera). Waffles wasn't too freaked out, but made it clear those kittens weren't allowed in his room. MOL Stoli didn't get too close but Sangria did and was pretty much unimpressed...of course she hears the name calling here, so been there, done that.
Oh - and there was this thing called a cupcake ATM at the mall nearby..... we understand it got used several times though the only evidence we have of that is this picture of Miss Julie letting Sangria try some frosting.
