Random Fridays

Mom plans to take the kittens to Petco on Sunday. Good luck. :)

And our friend Miss Kelly (the local one) gifted us with a new BIG exercise pen that mom promises to break out this weekend for the kittens.

We hope you have a nice weekend....  that Jade chick is getting a little more bold. Mom leaves the bathroom door open and the gate up while she gets ready for work and Jade did some serious butt kicking while mom was in the shower the other day. Hormones....overrated at best.

Don't forget to get your bids in at the auction to help The Baby from Katnip Lounge. Today is the last day!!

Jade's kittens - 7 weeks old....

How did that happen??  How did time pass that fast??  It seems like just yesterday that Jade and Mica showed up and then took the orphaned kittens into their little family. Now they are growing by leaps and bounds. Don't get us wrong - they will be here for a while longer..... but they have certainly come a very long way:

Everyone has tested negative for FeLV and FIV. They are vaccinated and will be spayed/neutered and microchipped when they are big enough. They are sweet and outgoing and so playful. They are discovering toys and the joy of jumping on each other (and Jade of course).

Mica with the photobomb. Ash and Coral in the back, Amber stalking the mom.

Jade doing her guardian routine while Pearl voices her complaint
(yes, along with her coloring, her voice is siamese as well)

Amber: "how YOU doin?"

Ash, Coral and Mica check out Uncle Tim passing through

So let's see....some weights:
Ash and Mica both weigh 1 pound 10 3/4 ounces. The race is on!!
  Amber weighs 1 pound 5 1/8 ounces.
Coral is up to 11 1/8 ounces. (snicker)
Pearl weighs 14 7/8 ounces (she lost a little....keeping a close eye on her).

Between last week and being tested this week, a couple of different vets have seen Coral. While the first reaction is "she is how old?" and "wow she is tiny", the general consensus is that she is healthy, just little. Our rescue vet did suggest maybe a full blood panel before she is spayed. Whenever that may be.....

Opt to Adopt - Cinco and Cora

Cinco beating up the crinkly tunnel

Cora came to the house Friday night to help her adjust to Cinco
Didn't work so well...she spent quite a while hissing at Cinco
though she eventually gave it up

The girls went to Petco on Saturday morning after mom sent home Tommy Lee Jones (a big black male kitty - going home with a nice new mom and dad, a 12 year old girl kitty and two dogs). Mom figured the girls would go quick, but people must be on vacation cause as of Monday morning, no applications.....

Cinco is fuzzy and sweet. You can love on her and then she is off to play. She would be fine by herself but certainly seems like she would love a friend to play with.

Cora was born to a mom that had been live trapped. Her mom Sugar is super sweet and not feral, so she will be available for adoption once she is spayed. Cora is a little shy but curious about what is going on around her.

Thankful Thursday - 6 weeks old

Oh the lure of the Uncle Tim.....

Hard to believe that the kittens are 6 weeks old. Mom figures based on weight we have maybe 3-4 weeks with them. Cinco is being spayed today and will be available for adoption after that. Oh - and that little orange kitten that survived - he was neutered yesterday and will be available for adoption this weekend!! Cinco got some freedom last night....which is why there are no new pictures of her and she spent the entire time bouncing around the living room...and down the hall...and on the sofa... and on Uncle Tim.

Anyhow - on to the weekly weighin
Oh Miss Coral - all 8 1/4 ounces of her
(she has an appointment with the v-e-t on Friday...just to check -
though bless her, she is eating and active and everything else)

Amber now weighs 1 pound 2 1/8 ounces
and disapproves of the pawparazzi

Pearl now weighs 1 pound 1 7/8 ounces
and yes, we heard your heads explode

Mica weighs in at 1 pound 7 1/4 ounces
(and is the reigning heavyweight)
He still had bad hair days, but not as many

Ash weighs 1 pound 6 1/8 ounces
and yes, he looks like an elf in this picture....not sure why

Jade is doing better with us. Mom leaves baby jail set up in front of the bathroom door and so long as none of us stands there and tease her, she is fine. She will growl a little but hasn't made any attempt to get over the gate...though mom has no intention of leaving everyone unsupervised just yet. MOL

Opt to Adopt - Cinco

This little cutie is Cinco. She was found by herself in a condo parking lot and brought to the rescue on May 5th (hence the name someone else gave her).

She is an adorable long hair silver and black kitten - and BOUNCY!!  We hope she will be big enough to be spayed this week (appointment made for Thursday), but if not she will be ready to go next week for sure. She is super sweet and lovey but ready to play like mad.

Mom saw her at the adoption center on Saturday and the weight on her cage card made mom think she was smaller and would be a good fit with the kittens already here. Turns out she is MUCH bigger (by over 1/2 pound). So she is set up in the play pen in the living room. She went to an adoption event last weekend with mom and 4 of Jade's kittens and while she played a little rough at first, she settled down some and by the end, Ash and Mica were using her for a pillow. She reminds us of Emma the dust bunny too....serious cuteness.

weekend report

Let's see.....

Mom got up Saturday (we made sure it was EXTRA early) and took off for a transport.
This sweet old man is Rufus. He spent his entire life chained to a dog house and then was taken to a high kill shelter in Kentucky. Fortunately, someone stepped up and contacted Ontario Bloodhound Rescue and he was pulled and this past weekend went from a foster in Kentucky to a foster in Ontario. He was SO super sweet and just seemed happy to go along with whatever.

Then mom ran around and stopped at the adoption center for the rescue. There she found a cute fuzzy black kitten. More on her tomorrow.

And Sunday, the kittens went on an adventure. Jade and Coral stayed here. Mom knew Jade would be able to get out of baby jail and Coral is so little that mom just doesn't want her handled too much (which we know would happen due to the overwhelming cute).

First it was an adoption weekend at Petco. Mom packed up the four bigger kittens and headed off over there. She talked to some very nice people, Amber screamed a lot for attention, and a very nice lady bought 2 cases of Fancy Feast for Jade and the kittens. Woohoo!!!

Then it was over to the adoption center for their Kitten Shower. Mom says she wishes she had remembered to take a picture of the pile of donations. It was great. The kittens got to experience the outdoors - even a couple of dogs (Amber was unimpressed and gave one of them her best halloween cat impression). The exposure was always good and it helps the kittens with their social skills to be handled and have to deal with different environments.

Oh - and get mom was setting up at Petco, she was talking to a man who was checking out. It was Milano's dad!!! She had been worried as she had sent a couple of emails but hadn't gotten any response (he admits he doesn't check his junk mail). Anyhow - Milano is doing great. She has bonded with their older daughter and even gets chased around the house by their rabbit.  MOL

Random Fridays

Mom spent last weekend in TN with her parents. They spent Monday driving up into the Smoky Mountains and looking around. But it was HOT!!!

so pretty

the bears were out - do you see the one up in the tree?

Part of the Smoky Mountains near mom's parents includes a section called Cade's Cove. When the national government decided to take over the area as a national park, they found a cove in the middle of the mountains with several families living there. The families were given a lifetime lease and grandpa said the last family left in the 1960's.

It sure is pretty there....

Mom is feeling a little better. She says the hardest part now is that she hasn't had much to eat in several days and it makes her head fuzzy.

Plans for the weekend??  It is supposed to be cooler here. Mom will have a transport on Saturday and then Sunday takes the kittens to Petco and then to the Kitten Shower for Colony Cats. If you are in the area, be sure to stop by to see us (she should be at the shower about 2:30pm or so and Petco 11-2).

We tried it before, but mom says she REALLY got the to work this time. You can still use the old link, but it is nice to be using the domain name. :)

The kittens are doing well after their vaccinations. They are bouncing around like they are spring loaded.

Jades kitts are 5 weeks old

It is so hard to believe it has been 5 weeks since they got here.... they have gone from these tiny helpless beings to bouncing around and eating on their own and using the litter box and looking for attention. They also got their first vaccines on Wednesday. There were plenty of awws - and then several heads exploded when Coral came out. MOL

Mica weighs in at 1 pound 4 3/4 ounces

Amber now weighs 1 pound 3/8 ounces

Ash weighs 1 pound 5 3/4 ounces (still our big boy)
Pearl weighs 1 pound 1 3/8 ounces
Coral weighs 8 3/8 ounces

Jade keeps looking out the door and looking for a little freedom. However, last time she looked out she saw Spud and there was some name calling. Heaven knows the kittens need a little space to bounce around. Mom is hoping to see how Jade does with us over the weekend so she can put baby jail in front of the bathroom door and leave it open to give the kittens some fresh air and a little more space.

Mom made a joke with another friend at the rescue that as a fund raiser they should start a pool to see who can get closest to guessing when Coral is going to weigh 2 pounds.

**BTW - we are getting around to reading but are slow in the comments. SORRY! Mom was out of town last weekend (more about that tomorrow) and thinks she came back with food poisoning, so she isn't feeling to hot.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to:
 our mom
  our grandma
    the kid's mom

And to all the mom-cats who have gone through this house and raised kittens - sometimes even those that are not their own.

Jade is doing a great job and being a wonderful mom and a great lovey girl-cat.

Happy Birthday Junior

Can you believe the orange menace is 4 years old? either. Heaven knows he doesn't ACT like an adult. Though mom says he is off the hook for that since he is so good with our foster kittens.  MOL

We would throw a party, but let's see....he is afraid of people, doesn't like loud noises and will run when anyone comes over to the house. So, to celebrate we are being quiet and having some extra treats.
