Happy 4th Birthday Chanel

 Do you recognize those baby butts?

Hard to believe 4 years ago these kitten entered the world. They didn't get to our house until a few days later, but they grew up here.

We have never gotten updates on the boys, but Dior is now Cupcake and lives with our friend Julie.

Happy Birthday design kittens.

If you want a good laugh, mom just realized last night that this was the group she got for her birthday after doing a favor for the tescue6.

HAPPY Birthday

Can you believe it has been a year??

Mom sent an email to the families that adopted the boys. We got an email from from Versace's family. He is now called Sunny and has grown into a big handsome boy. He loves their window seat and has his own kid and sleeps with her every night. No comment on whether he has retained his ownership of the #ouchdammit title or not. haha

 Cupcake:
Formerly Dior, she now lives with the head peep, the man peep and 3 other cats and can be found at Cats Herd You and Cats Going Places (but you already knew that...right?).

Chanel:
And here is our baby....while it wasn't intended from the beginning, it all seemed to work out.

Chanel got a peep for her birthday.

Year in Review - Part 1

Happy New Years and we wish you a safe and healthy 2018!! As we have been doing, we are going to take a look back at last year....it will be a 2 parter so be sure to come back tomorrow. Let us know your favorite parts of the year as well if you have one.

January
We started out 2017 with Dandelion and Cassis still hanging out here. Plus we got a groovy new carrier from our Aunt Dee. Mom found the strawberry house and it became Mozart's private domain (basically due to the fact that he was the only one that could fit inside it). And we had a couple of episodes of homewreckers. (see also part 2) Mom also talked about fostering for Change a Pet's Life Day. The patriot girls were still at the store waiting to be adopted and got a hammock to hang out in.

February
Daiquiri showed off a very growly obsession with those spring toys. Dandelion started a new course of medication for the ongoing and perpetual snot that he was experiencing. The homewreckers were still working on the gingerbread house. Cassis was spayed and adopted!! We feared for the end of times when mom caught Ivy and Junior sleeping VERY close to each other. And we got our first foster kittens of the season - Coyote and Roadrunner. (#thelooneykittens)

March
We didn't realize it until we started looking back, but we did lots of adoptions in March: Dandelion, the patriot girls Liberty and Freedom, Coyote of the looney kittens, and Roadrunner of the looney kittens.

The looney kittens got a visitor. We celebrated Napping Day (isn't that really every day though). Mom did a post about reviews online about the rescue. There was a new guy in the foster room. Mom headed off for a weekend to visit her family. Mom also went on a rant about a tv show and FIV cats. (seems March was also the month for the ranting mom).

April
For mom's birthday this year, she got a very special present - Millie and the #designkittens. (Dior, Chanel, Versace, Gucci and Armani) The kittens were officially named and weighed. There was much ongoing cuteness. There was a couple of videos of flailing cats. We did a 3 week old kitten weigh in session. Mom posted about some of the "cat things" we have around the house. Daiquiri and Ivy had their annual vet checkup and the kittens managed to escape the box.

May
The design kittens discovered toys. Mom got a new router (and set it up herself) so the web camera works much better now. Daiquiri managed to get into the foster kitten room and Millie was NOT having it. There were several epic battles involving the incline scratcher. Mom started laying out the contestants for kittens going to Blog Paws. The boys got their own picture day. Mom headed off to Blog Paws. The kittens got to meet new friends at Blog Paws. And then it was surgery day for the design kittens.

June
We got a bunch of kittens (the #ratpackkittens) in June....6 little tuxedo kittens that just spelled trouble from the beginning. The design kittens were all spayed and neutered. We played "meet your new partners" with the rat pack kittens and the design kittens ALL in the foster room together. There was a big weekend adoption event and mom took the design kittens. The design kittens were almost all ready to head to the adoption center (Dior had an umbilical hernia and was around a few more days). Versace, Armani, Dior and Gucci were all adopted but Chanel came back to the house with a cold. The rat pack kittens all got names. Panache and her kittens arrived from a hoarding situation. We broke the VERY special news about the adoption of Dior - now known as Cupcake. Finally mom made a chart for the names of the rat pack kittens - Harlow, Bacall, Rooney, Romero, Bogart and Flynn.

we're back

Thank you so very much for all your support over the last month. It has been hard here but we are slowly finding a new normal. The girls are slowly taking over the house and making it their own. Junior seems to enjoy the antics of Daiquiri and Chanel. Spud is still his nervous self.

~~~~~~~~~~~
We thought we would start of the week with some good news.
MILLIE GOT ADOPTED!!
She had been at a partner store for quite a while. Mom just wasn't sure how she would be with other cats - her interaction here had always been with her kitten present.
A nice young couple came in and filled out an application. They have other cats but the mom works at a vet office. Our mom decided to give them a chance....better to try and fail then not give Millie a chance at a home.
Normally adoptions are done and that is it - though the rescue will always take their animals back. However, mom gave them a break and this was done on a trial basis.
Millie gave them a run, but they love her. She is growly with the other cats in the house and has gone after one of them....but everything they told mom said it sounds fear based. They are going to try some calming treats and talk to their vet about maybe low dose medication. Remember that Millie was a stray for we don't know how long and no doubt that has encased certain ideas about other cats in her head. For now they are working with her and keeping her on a schedule while still slowly doing introductions. They love her and are committed to her. She even has a new name: Petra.
so this happened
Last time we updated you about Chanel, she was back on the adoption floor with a head tilt after a bad ear infection.
Mom stopped last Tuesday at the adoption center and Chanel was in the kitten room being all friendly with everyone. Mom walked in and Chanel stood up and was loving on mom...nibbling on her chin.
Mom left, made it about half a mile down the road and turned around.
Yep....Chanel came back to the house that night. She has now been here over a week and fits in great. Daiquiri was a little bent out of shape for a few days but is doing better.
Mom hasn't gotten a good picture of her sitting still to show the tilt, but it is pretty obvious. It does seem to affect her balance some and she has fallen off a few things giving mom a start. But Chanel gets up and walks away.
Mom did take her out this past Tuesday to a local Starbucks and Chanel did great. She walked around the patio, didn't care about the noise or traffic, and greeted several people. Mom hopes to keep her going out and being social.
Please welcome the newest Random Feline. Yep....she is officially adopted....by us.
weekend report
Mom was actually kind of busy this weekend....running around on Saturday doing errands and getting stuck in traffic. MOL
She stopped at the adoption center after a conversation about bringing Chanel back to the house to finish her meds. Mom spent about 15 minutes searching everywhere for her only to discover that apparently her meds were over and she had been put back in the teenage kitten room. When mom circled around the second time, Chanel was sitting in the middle of the room like she had been there the entire time. Mom did hear that on Sunday, Chanel made a break for it, escaped the kitten room and ran around the adoption desk until the head rescue lady grabbed her and realized which kitten she had. And then Chanel was popped back in the kitten room.
Chanel
Harlow
Mom visited a friend on Sunday morning at the local university hospital. She then spent 30 minutes trying to find her car....
Panache went to an adoption event on Sunday afternoon. She really is unfazed by much of anything. She just hung out and watch everyone go by. She was dropped off after that at the clinic and had her dental done on Monday. There is an opening at a local partner store, so she will go up there later in the week.
The berry kittens are doing well. Blueberry is more affectionate than his sister for the moment, but they are both warming up.
Of course, we also still had the HOLY HOTS here this weekend. Don't get us wrong, we get the hots...but this is September!!
weekend report
MORE adoption news....
Fish went home Wednesday night.
Mom played musical kittens and moved Rooney and Harlow from the partner store to the adoption center and took Mallard from the house to the adoption center on Friday. She dropped everyone off around 4pm and by 6:30pm Rooney was adopted by a family that had adopted from us before and had seen him at the store. Mallard was also adopted, into a home with no other cats. Mom emailed both and has heard back from Mallard's family - she is now named Mila and while she hid the first night she has since come out and is doing great.
That leaves Harlow at the adoption center, Millie at the partner store and Panache at the house. Mom did talk to the head of the rescue and Panache will at least go up on the website since she is spayed.
Wait you may ask....what about Chanel? Mom saw her on Saturday. It seems she got over her cold and was back on the adoption floor when a volunteer found her and freaked out thinking she was dying. Turns out that teenagers freak out at the drop of a hat....but Chanel did have a NASTY ear infection that was causing her head to tilt. As of Saturday she still has a minor tilt and is still on meds but the head of the rescue said she is MUCH better. However, if you know of someone around Ohio looking for a nice tuxedo girl, let us know.
Please adopt Chanel
Our last remaining design kitten still hasn't been adopted.
She is on the rescue's website, so she can be seen on various rescue sites as well. She is at the adoption center but caught a cold being in the "teenage" kitten room. Mom wonders if the stress of being up there isn't helping her.
We are asking if you all would be willing to share her on facebook and/or twitter for us. Mom says if you or anyone you know is interested, email us at randomfelines@hotmail.com for more information and adoption information. Mom says she is willing to drive a couple of hours if someone nearby is looking for a super sweet, confident, outgoing tuxedo kitten.
need to learn to wait
Mom says she needs to learn to wait on making those adoption announcements.....
Millie was returned Monday night. (and if we see nasty comments about the adopter, they will be deleted). The family was first time cat owners and took Millie and another adult male. Well, Millie started out hiding, came out hissing and eventually took to stalking Calvin (the other cat). Mom gave them introduction advice and even got them to a local vet (where she knows one of the techs) but it wasn't working out. Rather than stress the family and both cats, mom met them at the partner store and set Millie back up. She may just have to be one of those cats that need a home of her own. We do know that she will need an experienced owner willing to give her time and put up with her tortie-tude. While we are sorry it didn't work out, we have a little more insight into her personality.
Random Fridays
Sunshine melts kittens.
But you knew that, right??
Mom got the new collars in the mail but hasn't had a chance to get them on everyone yet. Hopefully over the weekend. They did come with bells and mom was going to leave them on to see what would happen but it turns out the bell is kind of big and mom doesn't want to deal with it.
Mom set up Romero in the crate and covered it in the event that would keep him calm (it didn't but whatever). Daiquiri was immediately fascinated by this new thing in the living room.
Mom has started leaving the sheet up on the front of the crate. And thank you COD...Romero slept through the night last night. Still going to be a long couple of weeks, but this is good progress.
~~~~~~~~~~

Panache and the little kittens are doing well. The kittens are 4 weeks old today and starting to get more active. They were bouncing around the other morning as mom was getting ready. She did take the top off of the carrier so it is in there as a bed but is open and Panache seems OK with it. Bless her though - she got her appetite back with a vengeance...she is eating at least 3 of the 5 ounce cans per day. Probably one more if mom could fit it in to her schedule. She isn't interested in dry - more than likely due to teeth issues.
~~~~~~~~~~
Chanel's cold seems to have completely cleared up so she will be heading up to the adoption center. Probably tonight so she is there for the weekend. She has become a very sweet and lovey girl who actually comes looking for attention so hopefully she won't freak out up there and will get adopted quickly.
We hope you have a safe and comfortable weekend.
