Random Fridays

 Guess what?? Our boy Cipher was adopted on Wednesday. His new dad saw his picture and description online and put in his application. He was approved and met Cipher for the first time on Wednesday. After some time in our medical department, Cipher has become quite the chunky monkey. Mom handed him over and Cipher was immediately was rubbing on Z and gave him a kiss. It was love at first sight.

Selkie is becoming quite the friendly playful boy. He loves to play with Gargoyle though she is definitely still the boss.

Dragon is still a little snotty and felt the need to share with Wyvern.

Selkie and Gargoyle are be enough to be almost ready to go. The other two need to gain some weight so they will be here a little bit.

weekend update

Well last week certainly sucked. Mom got a text on Thursday evening that the couple that had adopted Enigma came in that night and wanted to let the rescue (and mom) know that he had been euthanized on Monday for FIP. We hate that stupid disease.....  RIP Enigma/Anubis. We know your mom and dad loved you very much and miss you terribly.

Wait? Where we going??

Mom took Lane and Fate to the local partner store where she helps clean. Normally they would go up to the adoption center but there was an opening and mom wants to see if they could get adopted from the store. The cage isn't very big so if they are there more than a couple of weeks, mom will move them to the adoption center. They would probably go in the juvenile kitten room and there are quite a few kittens there are the moment and mom is afraid they will get overlooked.

Lane and Fate are both 4 months old, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, fully vaccinated and microchipped. They don't have to go together but would do very well together or would need to be in a home committed to keeping them busy or with another younger cat as they are both very active. That said, they are also so very very sweet. They are in central Ohio.

We had these two for quite a while and this was a hard one for mom leaving them up there.

The bug kittens continue to do well. They are wild and crazy but also so very sweet and love to come up and climb on mom for some love when she is in there with them.

Random Fridays

At the event last weekend, one of our favorite photographers David Brown was there taking pictures for rescues and adopters (he has taken several of Chanel that we have posted before). Mom took over Cipher, Roomba and Fate for pictures. As always, they are awesome:

Also, since this is the time of year when we are up to our ears at the rescue with mom cats and kittens, but also with single kittens, mom took in another single and she is in the foster room with Fate and Mopar.

Meet Lane. She was left at one of our rescue's partner stores in a carrier all by herself....no note, no nothing. She has been tested (negative) and vaccinated and met the boys on Tuesday. They spent a good deal of time getting up in her personal space and she spent that same time telling them to get lost. She is a little bit smaller than Fate and Mopar but definitely holding her own.

Big weekend event

Sorry this is a little late going up - mom was gone all weekend at a large adoption event both Saturday and Sunday. The event was 11-4 but of course as volunteers, that means set up on Friday, getting there early both days, not leaving until 4:30pm on Saturday and packing everything up on Sunday. Makes for a long weekend. Mom came home Saturday, had a snack and was asleep by 9:30pm. MOL

But there were lots of rescues, lots of local vendors for shopping and food trucks!!!

We didn't get any cat applications though we did get a couple of two of the dogs that we had there. Mom says events like these are sometimes more about exposure for the rescue and getting our name out there. Plus it is a great way to socialize kittens to dogs and loud noises and everything else. Sunday morning before they opened, there were sparrows flying around (the event was in a big arena building at the county fairgrounds) and the kittens were mesmerized. 

Random Fridays

If you are anywhere near Ohio, there is a big event this weekend at the Franklin County Fairgrounds. Fetch A Friend and Shop Local got together for a huge shopping and pet adoption event. 11-4 Saturday and Sunday. Mom will be out there both days with Colony Cats and is hoping to take Roomba and Cipher.

Mom is a little concerned about Anastasia. She is taking good care of the kittens but certainly isn't eating much to keep herself and 3 kittens going. Mom gave her some canned food Tuesday night and she ate it, ate most of another can Wednesday night but wouldn't touch anything Thursday morning. Mom spoke to the rescue and they may try an appetite stimulant just to jump start her.

Good news: Cipher is now neutered!! So he can be put on the website and we can start searching for his forever home.

In other news, Cipher seems to think it is a giant game to see if he can get OUT of the foster room before mom gets IN the foster room. The other night he made it out and mom gave up and left him out for a while as she spent time with Mopar and Fate and cleaned and fed everyone. She came back out and he was having a blast so she let him run around for a little longer. He headed down the steps and must have stopped a couple of steps from the top. Goldfish wandered over (keep in mind she did KNOW he was loose in the house), his head popped up over the edge of the steps, and Goldfish went FULL Halloween cat on him - though no hissing, just all fluffed up.

Mopar is still kind of suspicious of mom. She is thinking about maybe moving him to a smaller crate in the living room for a couple of days. It tends to work with scaredy/feral type kittens to help them friendly up some. Not sure WHY it works, but it tends to. Of course that will leave a very whiny Fate in the kitten room by himself if Cipher goes to the adoption event all weekend. Oh well - mom says she won't be home to listen to him complain about it. MOL

canned food in the evening and is going to use that as bribery.

Darth Cipher

That boy and his snot. He is on a second round of antibiotics and has been nebulized a few times to help him breath better. Seems to work for a few days and then we are back to hearing him breath across the room. However - he isn't sneezing green snot and heaven knows he is active and eating and being his dorky self. The rescue is concerned it may be a polyp but the only way to really know is knock him out and stick a scope up his nose. We aren't there yet, but that may end up being an option. Of course, he hasn't been neutered yet and therefore can't be adopted yet either. In the meantime, he is very BORED in the kitten room with the littler boys and will happily howl his complaints in the evening.

oh Cipher

Mom seriously loves this boy. He is seriously goofy though. Over the weekend he raided the storage bins and found this jester hat. He was playing with it and mom decided she was going to put it on his head. He was not amused. MOL

His cold is clearing up so hopefully he can be neutered next week. He has definitely hit that long and lanky stage. He is super sweet, very purry and just a goofy kitten. He will play by himself but would probably do much better in a home with a young cat or another kitten to keep himself busy.

Oh hey - all four kittens (Hoover, Dyson, Enigma and Puzzle) that went up to the adoption center have been....ADOPTED!! Hoover went home with another kitten, Puzzle has an older cat in his new home and the others went home as singles (though mom did Enigma's adoption and let them know if he gets lonely that we still have his brother).

Miss Fate was tested on Saturday and is negative for FeLV/FIV so she is now in the foster kitten room with Roomba and Cipher. Roomba isn't too sure about her and Cipher was thrilled that mom brought him a new toy.

They are actually all getting along fairly well. Mom heard some baby howling Saturday afternoon. She can check the web cams on her phone (since they stop screwing around if she comes up to the door). She was expecting maybe it was Fate. Nope - it was Roomba getting chewed on BY Fate. Oh well. Cipher thinks it is all fun and games until the new toy bites back. That doesn't stop either one of them from running after each other and banging around the room. It is a good thing kittens are mostly rubber and fluff considering that Cipher is sometimes none too gentle with Fate. Roomba will play with them but seems more content to watch them screw around.

Obviously these pictures were taken before the four kittens went up to the adoption center. It is certainly much quieter with 2 kittens in the foster room as compared to 6 kittens. Though Cipher can certainly howl with the best of them when he has complaints about something.

Cipher and Roomba are doing much better so we hope to get them spayed/neutered next week. There is a kitten shower for the rescue on the 15th and a big adoption event on the 22nd and 23rd so they will be ready to go for either one of those.

Miss Fate continues to do well. She purrs the minute mom picks her up though she has NO TIME for snuggling as she would like to be down and checking out the rest of the house. She did manage to push the gate open at one point and mom found her wander around like she owned the joint (no - she is not staying). Mom has since rigged the playpen a couple of times to try to keep her in there. She is a fairly smart cookie though so she is giving mom a run for her money. However, mom doesn't want to have to leave her in the crate all the time but also doesn't really want her having free roam of the house either.

Happy Memorial Day (in the US). Thank you to all our service members and their families.

First, some news: mom dropped off the 4 kittens to the adoption center on Friday. She did some paperwork and left. She got a text about an hour later and....

PUZZLE GOT ADOPTED

Nice couple that also have a 2 year cat at home so he will have company. YAY!!

While mom was doing paperwork at the center, a mom and daughter came in with a tiny black kitten. Turns out the daughter was driving down a major road near the adoption center and saw a tiny fuzzy thing in the MIDDLE of the road. Several cars went right over but she stopped and got out and grabbed the kitten. However, they have a dog at home so they needed a place for the kitten. Since mom was there, she offered to take the kitten home that night. She grabbed the Sturdi crate from the car and set it up in the living room.

Chanel was a little fascinated. The kitten hissed at her a few times but Chanel stared at her for quite a while.

Daiquiri was not nearly as amused by this new development.

Since she was rescued and ended up with us, mom has decided to name her Miss Fate. She is probably about 5 weeks old. Eyes still a little blue but starting to change. She is eating kibble (thank heavens) and canned food. She can't be in with Cipher and Roomba as she hasn't been tested yet and the other 2 are a little sneezy. Since mom was worried about her, she now as a stuffed bunny for a friend. After just 24 hours, she is purring and is very friendly. She will still hiss if she is startled but otherwise is great. The assumption is she must have been in the back of a truck or under a car and when the vehicle stopped on the road, she fell out. She is in really good shape - nice weight and no injuries no she got very lucky.

It seems odd, but having all 6 kittens in there seemed to MORE than double the quantity of kittens in the foster room. They are all over the place - moving cans, tipping over the water jug (there is a reason there is a lid on that thing), trying to open the drawers, pushing each other off the Kasas. The noise is impressive too - between the thundering around the space and the screaming when someone bites someone else, we wonder if those kittens ever actually sleep.

The kittens are doing very well together. Mom checked on them the other day and there were 4 out
of 6 kittens stacked up on the penthouse on top of the Kitty Kasas. The decoders are fine with their collars which is nice since it is easier to tell them apart in pictures and even on the web cam.

The vacuum kittens are doing so much better and are seeking attention and love from mom. She thinks that they were mostly jumpy due to Bissell being jumpy. It really does make a huge difference for kittens to have examples showing them that things are OK.

They are having a blast running around the foster room. Sometimes it is absolutely silent and you wonder if there are kittens in there are all, and other times it sounds like there is an army in there.

So the decoder kittens finally got new names - and new collars. Our Fairy Catmother sent collars that are small enough to fit kittens. Green stayed green, Yellow stayed yellow, and the FCM decided Screamy could be neon orange since he's loud. hahaha

Anyhow, mom decided since she needed to do their paperwork, she should actually assign names: yellow is Cipher; green is Enigma; orange is Puzzle. If you are watching the web cam, the nice part is that these collars show up pretty well on the camera. The black kitten without a collar is Roomba.

All 6 kittens are getting along really well. The nice part is that since the decoders are so darn friendly, they have convinced the vacuums to be the same. Dyson is no where near as skittish as he had been - he is now coming up and asking for attention and isn't running when mom tries to catch him.

Surgery is scheduled for all of them on May 20. So if you live in central Ohio or are willing to travel, let us know....  :)
