If you haven't heard about the Kitten Bowl airing on February 1 on the Hallmark Channel, you are missing out. Last year was MUCH more fun to watch than any football game out there. And this year promises to be just as much fun.

But....how about sharing a message at the same time??  The Lucy Pet Foundation is running an ad during the Kitten Bowl promoting spay and neuter. And all the stars are rescues!!!  Even better....

Get a load of those linebackers....

Now you KNOW we are on board with that message. They will be using the hashtag #DogsVsCats during the game. The commercial was directed by Sam Nicholson - apparently he is famous for this show about zoomies zombies (he directs the Walking Dead).

And here are some other things to think about:

• Lucy Pet Foundation's groundbreaking #DogsVsCats football game commercial airing on Super Bowl Sunday, will feature the most high-tech CGI ever done using animals.

• The Director of the commercial is Sam Nicholson, one of Hollywood's most acclaimed visual effects Wizards, known best for Heroes, 24, The Walking Dead and Star Trek I.  

• The commercial will draw attention to the 80,000 pets euthanized each week in shelters across the US, due to overpopulation.

• Lucy Pet Foundation has a multi-targeted solution to pet overpopulation:
• Free and Low Cost Mobile Spay and Neuter Clinics across the country (eventually all free!)
• Education
• Grooming and training of shelter pets to make them more adoptable
• Working to enact legislation benefiting pets, including banning gas chambers at shelter

Besides - cute animals, kittens playing football, rescue, a great message....does it get any better than that??

We of course will be rooting for Rickey in the commercial.

Mostly wordless Wednesday

**Mom was at Petco for an adoption event on Saturday. This cover was marked down...WAY down. Mom wants something on the couch, but the cover that was on that wasn't doing it - plus Junior was going UNDER it (which kind of defeats the purpose). So mom decided, what the heck. Now, she didn't read the measurements right and though it was going to be bigger. However, as you can see, it is a hit. And....Junior hasn't be under it (yet). Mom wants to pin the corners but otherwise likes it (plus it looks nicer than the other cover).

Opt to Adopt - Mae West

Yes, we know she has been on here before, but we have an update....

Since we don't currently have adoptable kittens in the house, and the adoption center has been so busy that mom didn't want to take kittens from there, she decided to take Mae with her on Saturday to the Petco adoption weekend. Mae of course expressed her displeasure at going in the carrier, going in the car, and going in the crate. MOL

However, things are looking up for Mae. She is out and about at the adoption center - though she has claimed the large trash can that holds the litter as her personal space. She has slimmed down some - not quite so curvy. She is still a talker though.

And....she is a lover. OK- mom discovered that Mae doesn't like her so much....appears the girl is holding a grudge about something. But our friend Miss Emily said she can pick Mae up and carry her around like a baby. And Mae was flirting like mad with the staff and a couple of customers at the store. No adoption interest, but at least she was turning on the charm.

That being said, she was giving the two other cats at the store "the look" and growled a couple of times. But with slow introductions, we know she would be ok. A gentleman came in with a toy poodle and Mae lost her mind - full Halloween cat mode. Though a couple came in later with a puggle and she seemed fine. So either she was getting used to it, or poodles are scarier than puggles. Who knows??  :)

First, some news: mom stopped at the adoption center on Friday to check on Kahlua. They were open on Wednesday and.....KAHLUA GOT ADOPTED!!!  It was busy so mom didn't grab a copy of her records, but we are pretty excited our fuzzy house panther has a home.

She is fun loving and has a blast....She ran down the hall the other day and wrapped her paws around Junior as he dragged her down the hall. As mom is typing this for us, she is wrestling with Tim....

As you can see, our gingerbread house is still holding up (ignore the staple marks around the
windows - we are blaming Stoli and Sangria). And mom is happy to sat that there is normally a cat snoozing in it as well. Money well spent.....plus the tape on the corners has prevented further issues with it coming apart. If Target does it again, we do hope they make it a little bigger - the house tends to come off the scratcher when certain parties here stand up to exit. MOL

the mom here: my friend Amy posted on facebook the other day looking for one word to inspire 2015. Which got me to thinking, especially in light of the review of 2014 I had up here the last couple of days. It certainly seems sometimes that we all get caught up in the moment. But looking back, it is more of a roller coaster - some ups and some downs. And a good deal of it from outside sources.... so how to start 2015? Being a music fan, I think the Beatles said it best "Let it Be". Take a moment to breathe in and breathe out... realize that THIS moment will end and the next will come. Life is a journey - it isn't a race. There is a destination, but honestly, what is the hurry to get there??  Yes, there will be frustrations and sadness and moments that are overwhelming. But they are moments....not the entirety. I love being part of this blogger community where we can gather together for encouragement, information, love and loss. Thank you for once again choosing to travel with me and the cats and fosters on this journey. I can't guarantee results but I can guarantee it will be worth the ride.

Year 2014 in review (part 2)

July found Mae West outside our condo. She was already spayed, so after being tested she went to the rescue to find a home (still looking for a home by the way). She is adorable....and chatty. MOL

We posted an update on the geology kittens. And Pearl got adopted....by a family in Michigan. Katniss reappeared (thank cod). Mica and Amber were adopted (separately). And we had some oranges arrive at the house.

August brought us Check Your Chip Day (we were disappointed to discover it was about microchips not potato chips), Black Cat Appreciation Day (Mo says that should be EVERY day), and a state of the cats report. Baby jail got an upgrade and Cass and the alcohol kittens arrived. Unfortunately a famous blogger Sparkle left us. And Coral became a permanent member of the house.

September got us an update on those alcohol kittens. Kahlua joined their family and Stoli and Sangria got some time out in the living room....and made Coral look HUGE.

We gotted a new carrier...that became a mancat cave. And lots of adoptions: Ash, Quartz, Sunshine and Clementine and Tangerine (together).


October - a month mom wishes she could have skipped. Coral started getting sick...and got sicker...and ran for the Bridge. She was six months old. Stupid FIP.

But, we gotted a new water fountain, celebrated National Feral Cat Day, mom went to an art retreat and then headed to BarkWorld/MeowWorld.


November gave us mom's report from the conference. We had a feel good story about Aiden. Tim and Tom had to go visit the v-e-t for their snot. And....we gotted a gingerbread house!!!

December brought a good house trashing (nothing some packing tape couldn't fix). Some weird test results and having Stoli and Sangria get adopted together. Plus we had a great time celebrating with other bloggers with the Santa Kitty Toy Hop, Pet Bloggers' Gift Exchange and Secret Paws. Plus of course Christmas. And, helping to heal our hearts, we added Daiquiri to the family as a permanent member.

We wish ALL of you a wonderful, peaceful and healthy 2015. There have been some joys and some losses this past year....for us and for our friends. Mom swears she is going to resolve to help us comment more often, but know that we are reading and following...even when mom falls down on the job. We are looking forward to more fostering next year and BlogPaws in Nashville in May.

Year 2014 in review (part 1)

a few numbers before we get started:

   mom transported 16 dogs this year
   foster: 3 momma cats and 19 kittens

wow....

January came with a kitten in (Cumin) and two kittens being adopted (Milano and Chex who were returned and this was their second adoptions). And mom's brother's family adopted Scooby Doo (yep - he is a kitten):

And mom was involved with Ontario Bloodhound Rescue in saving Summer and Blu


February had a couple of adoptions: Cumin and Amelia (aka the Dust Bunny)

Our grandparents adopted a woofie they call Izzo and mom rescued a feral named Katniss
   oh - and Mo decided he didn't like Al Roker:

March gave us some adoption updates - which we love


April was a wild ride. Licorice got adopted!!!  Jade and Mica arrived....with four kittens coming the next day...and everyone needed a name. This group ended up being our geology kittens: mom Jade, with Mica, Ash, Pearl, Amber, and Coral.

Saffron was adopted (once mom finally got her on Petfinder). And we got some bad news about Maestro.


May is a month we would almost like to forget. While the geology kittens turned a month old and we added Cinco the household as a foster, we lost the old man of our family. Maestro crossed Rainbow Bridge due to cancer.

June had poor Jade acting as a surrogate mom to...more kittens. We added three more kittens to the geology family: Jet, Topaz and Quartz.  The older kittens turned 2 months old. We celebrated International Box Day. And mom took a vacation with the kid to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah.

Wellness review

We were contacted by Chewy.com who asked us to review some food. Really??? Sure - we are in.

We picked the Divine Duos - we got the Chicken Pate and Diced Turkey.

We got four containers, but mom was stingy and only opened 2 of them.....bah humbug to the mom.

Anyhow, you can see that a certain foursome showed up right away. Open some food around here and those tabby boys are all over it - and they are teaching Daiquiri the same thing. Now, we have read a couple of reviews about this food on other blogs, so mom was interested to see what we would do. And, like we had read....the pate was a hit, the diced part not as much. As you can see from the last picture, there is a decent amount left. And carrots.....no thanks - we aren't into veggies.

So, despite the fact that we will normally eat anything that doesn't eat us first, this was more of a meh. But we appreciate being included....

Christmas weekend

Mom left us for the weekend....but Santa Paws found us and left presents in TN. Mom hasn't let us have them yet, but we know she brought them back.

The kid bought this with her own money for mom. So sweet.....

Everyone got something they wanted and then dinner was served. Mom said she had a good time with everyone.

When mom came home on Saturday, she helped transport Gracie Mae for Ontario Bloodhound Rescue. Gracie is 5 years old, was kept just to be bred, never lived inside, and was heartworm positive when rescued. But she is super sweet - though needs to gain some weight. Mom's part of the trip was 3 hours from Lexington KY to our hometown. From there she went to a foster home in PA.

We hope you all had a happy and healthy Christmas.....

We are sending purrs to many many friends in the CB. There are several kitties that are sick. And some ran for the Bridge over the weekend. That makes us sad and we are sending purrs to their families.  And if you have few green papers, Marg had an accident at their house - Joe is one of the donkeys there. Over the weekend coyotes got into the pasture and when he chased them away, he got caught in the fence and was hurt. A YouCaring site has been set up for them. Miss Marg does SO much for everyone in the CB.....

wow they were little

Kahlua and Daiquiri

Good heavens they were tiny. It is funny to go back and see these pictures and remember that the long legged big eared kittens in the house were once very tiny. Kahlua came to us found outside and Daiquiri the same way.

A couple weeks later and they were getting bigger....and getting attitude.

And now look at them.....

Kahlua is now up at the adoption center for the rescue. Mom took her up Sunday when a spot opened up. Hopefully her forever family is looking for her and she will go home quickly. She has blossomed into a super sweet outgoing and playful kitten. It is funny though - for as much as she is willing to cuddle, she walks up to mom and asks to be picked up rather than jumping up in mom's lap.

Daiquiri is a whole different issue.....the company that makes the tests ran her bloodwork and came back with the same results that we got. So, medically she is negative, but from a PR perspective, it could cause problems for the rescue. Or even worse, if she were to get lost and be picked up and tested without someone checking for a chip, it could cost her her life....and we won't risk that. Mom talked to the head of the rescue who suggested one more test in a month to see if anything changes. Mom has been talking to us, and we are pretty sure she is now part of the family. Everyone here adores her, so she is more than welcome to stay. :)

weekend wrapup

Mom did some "spring" cleaning. Yes...we know it is winter here, but we never said the woman was right in the head....She took out some old stuff to toss or recycle. And then move around a couple of shelves. One now in her bedroom and the a new one in our room. She said next step is to move some other stuff and then put up some shelves to make us a super highway. More on that later.....

The kittens are having a blast. We are trying to figure out the next step for them at this point. But in the meantime, it is a party around here.

 This cat sack was part of our Secret Paws box. No one seemed willing to go inside, so mom grabbed Daiquiri and shoved her in it. And suddenly she discovered it was pretty nice in there....until Kahlua heard the crinkling and came over to investigate.

It is that time of year...we packed up a box and sent it out. And then the man in the blue shorts pants brought us a box too. Mom locked it up for a few days but finally broke it out and let us open it.

There were lots of wrapped packages - one with each of our names on it. And a card - it was from the kitties at 15 and Meowing THANKS so much....we love it!!!
