Foster Update - Pearl

(FYI - the camera went down this morning - no idea why and mom is at work.... sorry)

While we were waiting for new kittens (which happened yesterday in case you missed it), mom reached out to another adopter that she keeps in contact with (thank heaven for social media).....

Yep - that's Pearl of the geology kittens.....she was adopted by a family in Michigan and her mom sent us an update and new pictures (prepare to be amazed). She will be 2 years old next week!

from M: Elsa Pearl the Squirrel has settled in nicely. She has been a perfect fit from the beginning. She is a (THE) mischief maker, leader of the Pantry Raiders, fully able to open cupboards. She'll steal anything in a plastic wrapper, taking it right off your lap or out of my purse, daintily taking it with her teeth. She's an expert at stealthily getting up onto the counters, eating anything in sight (including soy sauce packets; she won't make the same mistake with Chinese hot mustard again LOL). She only gives herself away when she hits the floor in retreat with a resounding "thunk!"  We couldn't love her more♡

Another throwback Thursday

Hard to believe, but it has been almost 2 years since Jade and her kittens were here. They didn't come to us until April but we thought we would flashback to that adorable family. For those of you who don't remember, Jade and her kitten Mica were found on a horse farm. About 24 hours after mom picked them up, she got a call from the rescue leader about 4 kittens that were found under a bush while they were doing some TNR. Jade took those four as well. They were Ash, Amber, Pearl and Coral.

Year 2014 in review (part 1)

a few numbers before we get started:
   this is post 1380
   mom transported 16 dogs this year
   foster: 3 momma cats and 19 kittens

wow....

January came with a kitten in (Cumin) and two kittens being adopted (Milano and Chex who were returned and this was their second adoptions). And mom's brother's family adopted Scooby Doo (yep - he is a kitten):

And mom was involved with Ontario Bloodhound Rescue in saving Summer and Blu


February had a couple of adoptions: Cumin and Amelia (aka the Dust Bunny)

Our grandparents adopted a woofie they call Izzo and mom rescued a feral named Katniss
   oh - and Mo decided he didn't like Al Roker:

March gave us some adoption updates - which we love


April was a wild ride. Licorice got adopted!!!  Jade and Mica arrived....with four kittens coming the next day...and everyone needed a name. This group ended up being our geology kittens: mom Jade, with Mica, Ash, Pearl, Amber, and Coral.

Saffron was adopted (once mom finally got her on Petfinder). And we got some bad news about Maestro.


May is a month we would almost like to forget. While the geology kittens turned a month old and we added Cinco the household as a foster, we lost the old man of our family. Maestro crossed Rainbow Bridge due to cancer.

June had poor Jade acting as a surrogate mom to...more kittens. We added three more kittens to the geology family: Jet, Topaz and Quartz.  The older kittens turned 2 months old. We celebrated International Box Day. And mom took a vacation with the kid to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah.

Random Friday

This is how we are spending the weekend.....

Oh and on the fountain front - it is SUPER quiet. Mom did say that the blue light is a little weird at night. She can't see it from her bedroom, but as she walked down the hall toward the kitchen the light flickers cause it is behind the water falling and it looked like we had tiny blue aliens landing in the kitchen. MOL

Our friend Miss Connie from Tails from the Foster Kittens is having a yard sale of some of her kitty stuff to raise money for treatment for her kitty Jack - he has had some major medical lately and so she gathered up some things and is having a sale (click here). Any support is appreciated. :)  We already got our order in!

6 months ago today, 4 little kittens were rescued during a mass TNR in a mobile home park. Hard to believe it has been that long. Happy 6 month old to Coral, Amber, Ash and Pearl (Mica too...he was about 3 days older).

Coral is eating a little better and getting feisty about taking her meds which mom is considering a good sign. In fact, she is beginning to put up a fight about taking her meds...which is good cause she must be feeling better, but mom isn't so happy about the fight. Mom also broke out the comb last night and Coral had a good time rubbing all over it and then rolling over and giving it a good bunny kicking.

Ash AND Quartz were adopted this week. (no, not together) Mom got to meet Ash's new mom - there is an 11 month old girl cat at the house so Ash will have someone to keep him company. Mom didn't meet Quartz's family, but we are very glad they are both home.

Jet is still at the adoption center. She is in the kitten room and is out and about. She is a little skittish with people though. Add that to being black and mom worries about her.

we thought we would just give everyone a general update on everyone here...in no particular order (cause the computer won't cooperate)

Tim  is still the gentleman chicken of the family. Mom had the cable changed over a couple of weeks ago and Tim was under cover most of the day. But he is so wonderful with our foster kittens.

Allie is doing great too. Mom doesn't see her as much in the summer/fall but enough so that mom doesn't worry too much.

  Junior is doing better. For a while there (mom swears it was the weather or something), he was getting kind of aggressive forward with Ivy and Spud. In the past couple of weeks he has backed off a bit and things are more calm. Mom is still working on a walkway over the window in our entry that will hopefully give everyone a little more space.

Tim and Tom seem the be the only ones that will truly put up with Junior. Tommy is doing well as head mancat. He seems to have a weird lingering sneeze that mom will have the v-e-t check in to the next time she is over. Tim and Tom are going to be 11 and are doing well.

Ivy is still the princess. Hates having her nails trimmed, hates Junior, would love it if mom would stay home more and provide more lap time.

Mo...what can we say about the house panther??  Oh - get this...for Black Cat Appreciation Day, he tried to bite mom...got a few layers of skin. (she was trimming his nails) But this is the same cat that will come up and sleep on his back next to her in the chair while she is reading.

Spud....mom worries most about him. He is just so afraid of so many things. But we love him and he is affectionate to mom sometimes. And like everyone else in the house, lurvs him some Tim.

Ash and Coral are doing well. Mom thought she had a line on an adopter for Ash but the lady ended up adopting a different kitten from the adoption center. That is ok, but mom had her fingers crossed.

Quartz and Jet seem healthy....cross your paws. Mom has to get their info up on Petfinder and hopefully can get them up to the adoption center.

Clementine and Tangerine are doing great. Starting to eat on their own and using the box. Tange is more of an observer, though she loves getting some hits in on her brother. Clem is just...cute. And mom has the baby jail gate set up in front of the bathroom so that she can leave the door open while she is getting ready for bed or for work. Clem loves to go sit by the gate and give Coral the eyes of love. goofball

weekend wrapup

Mom and Coral spent a couple of hours on Saturday at a local festival. A local Girl Scout was sponsoring a booth for local rescues as her senior project. Coral was very well behaved and spent the entire time on mom's lap. Mom put her down in the grass at one point but Coral wasn't too sure about the feel on her toes. Unfortunately, after a couple of hours the wind kicked up and then it started to rain. Mom spoke to the girl and they agreed that mom and Coral could pack it in and head home. But mom spoke to several people and did reaffirm how well Coral does in public.

The orange kittens are getting bigger every day. When mom is getting ready for work or for bed, she leaves the bathroom door open and leaves up the baby jail gate to give them a little room. Tange walks around a little. Sunshine like the carpet on her toes. And Clem walks up and stares at the big girls...such a flirt.

Mom has caught both of them drinking water and eating out of Sunshine's bowl. Mom put out canned food at one point. Tange wasn't interested, Clem took one bite and walked away and even Sunshine wasn't all that interested.

Quartz and Jet were supposed to go up to the adoption center this weekend, but their eyes are runny again. Mom is fairly convinced the words "adoption center" makes that happen.

Ash is at the other Petco store. They are much smaller and the kittens are allowed out to run around part of the day. Mom stopped to see him on Friday after work and the kittens were back in the cage for "naptime". Ash was so sound asleep that he didn't even twitch when mom called his name. MOL

 Sunshine is a good mom....though she has some "teenage" moments. And is seriously distracted by mom when she comes in to visit.

Opt to Adopt - Jet and Quartz

Miss Jet was spayed yesterday. Lately she hasn't been overly friendly with mom but the staff at the clinic said she was wonderful (mom was tempted to check and make sure it really was Jet in the carrier when they left). Jet was good on the way home, ate like a champ in the play pen....and then drunkenly howled off and on the rest of the evening.

With her being spayed, she and Quartz are now officially ready to be adopted.

Remember these girls were left at our adoption center in a carrier - no mom and not eating on their own. Our very own Jade (who hasn't been adopted yet) took them on as her own.

Quartz is VERY lovey and outgoing and playful. In fact, mom had to put her back in with Jet last night. Partly in the hopes that Jet would quiet down with some company...and partly cause Quartz has no sense of mom's personal space. She is great with the adult cats and loves playing with Coral.

Jet is a little more reserved but loves playing with her sister. She doesn't mind being picked up and held and the more it happens the less she seems to mind.

(Sorry for the late post....we got new cable/internet last week. It was working fine Sunday but mom wasn't too motivated to post ahead. And then last night it wasn't working at all, so she is doing this one from work.)
