Kitten Bowl...local style

For the past few years a volunteer and her fiancee have done our own kitten bowl thing live on Facebook.

This year was no exception and mom went over to help out.

 The field was laid out and catnip and treats brought the players to the field.

 We tried to provide streamers but Matilda decided they all belonged to her.

We do this as a fundraiser and as mom was typing last night it raised over $1,000 dollars plus a $250 sponsorship donation from a local business the Grandfather Clock Company (who have an office cat).

Sombrero was supposed to sub in on the defensive line but got sidetracked:

We did get some promotional stuff at the rescue and mom has 2 packs of trading cards she is giving away. She will assign a number to every comment and let us pick the winners.

snow and the kitten bowl

Every one in a while Daiquiri will pay attention to the TV. The Kitten Bowl on Sunday caught her attention and held it for a while.

We got some snow Saturday night into Sunday.

 Daiquiri stood on the tree and watched it fall....

We posted a picture on facebook and Miss Connie suggested Daiquiri check out the snow

So mom opened the balcony door
 huh - what's that stuff??

should I go out??

She was pretty brave. Mom didn't think she would like being out there. She was only out a couple of minutes cause it was cold, but mom had to resort to treats to get her back inside. She sure was curious....

spay, neuter, Lucy, and kittens

Got your attention didn't we???

If you haven't heard about the Kitten Bowl airing on February 1 on the Hallmark Channel, you are missing out. Last year was MUCH more fun to watch than any football game out there. And this year promises to be just as much fun.

But....how about sharing a message at the same time??  The Lucy Pet Foundation is running an ad during the Kitten Bowl promoting spay and neuter. And all the stars are rescues!!!  Even better....
Get a load of those linebackers....

Now you KNOW we are on board with that message. They will be using the hashtag #DogsVsCats during the game. The commercial was directed by Sam Nicholson - apparently he is famous for this show about zoomies zombies (he directs the Walking Dead).
#TeamCat

And here are some other things to think about:
  • Lucy Pet Foundation's groundbreaking #DogsVsCats football game commercial airing on Super Bowl Sunday, will feature the most high-tech CGI ever done using animals.
  • The Director of the commercial is Sam Nicholson, one of Hollywood's most acclaimed visual effects Wizards, known best for Heroes, 24, The Walking Dead and Star Trek I
  • The commercial will draw attention to the 80,000 pets euthanized each week in shelters across the US, due to overpopulation.
  • Lucy Pet Foundation has a multi-targeted solution to pet overpopulation:
    • Free and Low Cost Mobile Spay and Neuter Clinics across the country (eventually all free!)
    • Education
    • Grooming and training of shelter pets to make them more adoptable
    • Working to enact legislation benefiting pets, including banning gas chambers at shelter
Besides - cute animals, kittens playing football, rescue, a great message....does it get any better than that??
We of course will be rooting for Rickey in the commercial.

Want to learn more - head over to read a message from the president of the Lucy Pet Foundation Joey Herrick
And you can learn more about THE Lucy by reading her rescue story here

**disclaimer: This post was brought to you in an effort to raise awareness about Lucy Pet Foundation's upcoming ethical pet population campaign. Lucy Pet Foundation provided all images and information about the commercial, and will be entering our site into a drawing for a chance to win $500 towards a 501c3 rescue of our choice! If you are a blogger interested in spreading the word about this campaign, while also enjoying the chance to earn a donation for your favorite rescue, contact bloggers@lucypetfoundation.org and request more information!

Random Fridays....

Mom says she has a case of the "ughs" but we aren't sure what that means. So, starting Saturday afternoon we intend to pin her to her chair and see if some lap time won't cure that.
~~~~~~~~~~~
We posted on Tuesday about it being time for the Dust Bunny to get a home of her own.
Well apparently she can read cause she was back to being snotty when mom got home from work on Tuesday. So....don't tell anyone, but the plan is to take Cumin up there. Right now it is Licorice (can we get a home for that girl???) and a 5 month old kitten named Princess that we know Cumin will love. (OK - we know, he loves every cat....stalker-boy)  Plus being up there the clerks will love all over him and he will discover a love of people a little faster.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sunday we have heard rumor of some big football game. Now, mom watches college football but doesn't so much care about professional football. But then we heard that....there is gonna be a KITTEN BOWL!!  And we had no idea there were kittens out there that knew how to bowl!
              ummmm guys - not THAT kind of bowl
Oh - there is gonna be TV with kittens playing on it. Wait - how did they get a camera in here??  MOL

maybe we should send Cumin there!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey - have you seen the ad Budweiser will be showing during the Super Bowl??
~~~~~~~~~~~

And mom wants to give a shout out to Melissa's Mochas Mysteries and Meows for posting about new books. Mom is always looking for something interesting to read and the post linked above was for an author Linda O. Johnston....mom has now read two books from the Pet Rescue Series and loves them.
