outtakes

Thank heavens for digital cameras. Mom was taking pictures the other night - trying to get decent shots of Saldano and Russell to get on the website. However, the kittens were a little too curious about what mom was doing and kept sticking their noses in it....literally!!

weekend report

Mom took Russell, Saldano and Dandelion to a senior living event in our area on Friday. Everyone did very well and we did some sales of cat toys and got some donations.

Russell and Saldano are ready for adoption, so they went up to the adoption center on Saturday. No news, but we hope they get adopted quickly.

The brandy kittens and Marilyn are in the foster space and doing well. Marilyn sounds kind of stuffed up so she will get checked out this afternoon. Then she should be cleared for surgery and she will be ready for adoption. Mom will get her into the adoption system and then talk to another volunteer about getting Marilyn into a store space when one becomes available.

The brandy kittens continue to do well - active, hungry, and ready for action. Mom weighed them and everyone is STILL under 2 pounds...though Calvados is creeping up on it.

Freedom sure does love that hammock

Liberty - giving mom "the look"
We are fortunate that we have a friend who is going to help us socialize the girls some. We are hoping that having them exposed to different people will help build their confidence. They still need to be spayed - and the clinics here are just overbooked. But once that happens they will go up on the website (and hopefully to a store space as well).

Dandelion - too bad he can't relax
Dandelion is doing very well. He has made himself at home (NO - he is NOT staying). Daiquiri has decided he isn't so bad....unless he is stealing her toys, then it is a whole other thing (and by that we mean she walks over to mom and meeps a serious complaint about it).

before Saldano and Russell left
the little ones sure do love that scratcher

didn't they used to be black kittens

Taking a page from other fosters, mom finally found a short wand toy and took to waving it over the heads of the kittens the other day. Worked like a charm....
Calvados and Chambord

Chambord, Russell and
Kirsch (notice how white she is getting and the ring on her face)

Russell, Saldano, Kirsch and Calvados

Calvados is all about getting Saldano out of his way

As you can see, all three brandy kittens are going silver/white. Chambord doesn't have as much on her face, so the nice thing is that mom can tell the girls apart much easier now. Calvados was the first mom noticed going silver, but again with the short hair it is more obvious. The girls have always had a gray undertone to their coats but were still very much black until recently. It will be interesting to see if this continues or what....
for reference purposes....
you can see the gray undertones on the girls, but geez

not so wordless Wednesday

Back in July mom went to Maine and hooked up with some of her cat lady friends. Miz Robyn from Love and Hisses brought toys that included a packing strap. We know - doesn't sound like a "toy" but kittens love it. Mom found it the other day and finally took it in and the kittens had a blast.

Of course, at this age, EVERYTHING is a toy.

playtime

Mom says there is nothing much more fun or a better way to de-stress than for her to go into the foster room and play with the kittens. They sure do know the meaning of fun....and everything is a toy.

Russell - king of the trackball

If you look close, you can see they both have a paw in the game.

Pictures taken when Wheat was still here. She ended up in another foster
home and mom heard over the weekend that she has made it to 2 pounds.
Hopefully her toes will clear up and she can head to her forever home soon.

That incline scratcher is a big hit. Not sure how much longer Saldano is going to be able to fit in the hole however. One of the brandy girls climbs up to the top, digs in her claws and then hangs on the incline.

Mom says it over and over....that trackball may be the best $9 she ever spent on a cat toy.

Random Fridays

HAPPY (belated) Birthday Tommy!!
and we are sure Tim got extra treats over the Bridge
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The brandy kittens were tested on Tuesday and are....NEGATIVE (in case you missed it on facebook). The plan for the weekend was to put Saldano and Wheat in a carrier, clean and move a couple of things in the foster space. Then....mom wanted to move Marilyn and all five kittens into the foster space with Wheat and Saldano.
However, mom decided that moving them Wednesday night was the better idea. She was going to be home to keep track of everyone...and honestly was getting tired of the bathroom being a disaster. The kittens are getting big enough that it is a whole different kind of adventure with them in there.
So Marilyn and the five kittens packed their bags and were hauled off to the foster kitten space.
Saldano isn't too sure about that bigger lady cat
Saldano and Russell give each other the floof suit reaction
Calvados took it all in stride....then found a new toy
Kirsch and Chambord were pretty jumpy about the changes
All in all, it went pretty well. Wheat and Monroe were about as laid back as they could be. Marilyn checked out the place, found the food and made herself at home. The brandy girls were a little jumpy. Calvados and Russell wandered around and checked everything out, only getting jumpy when a certain gray girl would get in their faces.
Saldano was just RUDE about all of it. She growled, she hissed, she floofed out. However, there was no smacking or anything like that.
By the time mom went to bed that night, everyone had settled in.
Mom did take a few minutes to weigh everyone Thursday morning before breakfast.
  Saldano  1 pound 13 1/2 ounces
  Wheat  1 pound 6 3/4 ounces
  Monroe  14 3/8 ounces (not good...mom is keeping on eye on him)
  Russell   1 pound 13 3/4 ounces
  Calvados  1 pound 3 1/8 ounces
  Kirsch   1 pound 2 3/8 ounces
  Chambord   1 pound 1 3/8 ounces
Wheat is mostly fluff. She had some minor snot going on that is clearing up now, but we suspect she wasn't eating as much due to that. We are glad to see all the brandy kittens over a pound. They are still tiny for their age, but considering where we were with them 2 weeks ago, this is great progress.  And Saldano and Russell are well on their way to 2 pounds. Best mom can figure the brandy kittens and Russell and Monroe are 9 weeks old this week. The brandy girls are getting big enough that mom may be able to get collars on them to be able to tell them apart....hopefully.
weekend report
Mom was hoping to move Marilyn and the little kittens into the foster room with Saldano and Wheat. However, the little kittens still need to be tested. That should happen Tuesday. Then mom wants to clean up some in there and then will move everyone. The bathroom is getting a little small for kittens that want to run around and play.
But the girls are doing well. Saldano is a little hand shy but puts up with a lot of stuff. Wheat is hard to get a picture of at this point since she likes to come RIGHT UP to mom for some loving.
Everyone else is good.....
Random Fridays
Well, the little kittens seem to all be doing well. Mom is weighing them every couple of days and while Russell is still the reigning heavy weight champion (OF THE WORLD - so he would like you to believe), everyone else is steadily putting on weight and looks good. Monroe crossed the one pound mark and the brandy kittens aren't too far behind. Now if the girls will just get big enough that mom can put collars on them so she can tell them apart....they are even just close enough in size that there is no help there.
Monroe and the girls
Wheat and Saldano are still doing well. Saldano is so active and playful that it is hard to get a good picture of her. We actually have an application on Wheat, so once she makes weight and gets spayed, she will be going home with a retired couple that have another cat.
Saldano loves that tunnel.....she even naps in it
Liberty and Freedom continue to be snotty. The rescue has their big fundraiser/garden party on Sunday so next week once things settle back down, mom will talk to the head of the rescue about meds and spays and all that other stuff. Liberty still cringes when mom tries to hold her, but Freedom is a little bit better - she even came up to the bars the other morning and sniffed mom's finger. Mom thinks it helps that while she will still pick their noses, she has stopped medicating them and they are beginning to understand that being picked up doesn't always mean something bad tasting.
Liberty would like you to know she is still suspicious of that foster lady
We hope you have a nice and safe weekend.
weekend report
We know it is Wednesday, but mom was gone all weekend and didn't get around to updating anything until yesterday afternoon. She spent the weekend in Tennessee with her family and got back Monday night.
Which would be her excuse for not wishing Spud a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
Barley wasn't adopted over the weekend, but the center seems to be busy on Tuesdays, so we are hopeful he will get adopted this week.
Liberty and Freedom
The patriot girls are back in the tower. They were both out of the foster room when mom got home and were running scared. She managed to get them and put them in the tower to keep them contained. She is going to email the head of the rescue about the next step. Mom is sure she can't get them any friendlier - they have been medicated so many times they are afraid of mom. Plus she suspect part of the reason for the continued snotty noses may be stress.
Marilyn continues to take very good care of her boys and Fiona's kittens. The brandy kittens are still pretty tiny, but they are active and eating and seem to be doing well. Nothing is ever guaranteed, but we continue to hope they will thrive.
With Hops adopted, Barley at the adoption center, and the patriot girls in the tower, Wheat was by herself in the foster room. And she was NOT happy about it. She sang the "I am very lonely" song over and over....loudly and in siamese.
So mom contacted the rescue and Tuesday afternoon brought home this:
Meet Saldano
Ironically, like Wheat she was left in a box at one of our remote adoption centers inside a pet store. We figure this means it was meant to be. She came right out of her carrier to check out the foster space and within an hour or so the girls were playing happily together.
