bath house

Guess the girls decided if you can't wreck the house, you might as well put it to good use.

Cassis was in there first and Daiquiri came in and started giving her a bath. Now, we know what you are thinking - awww, isn't that sweet. Which would be true, except that we are pretty sure Daiquiri had a plan....and it worked. Groom the kitten enough and she will eventually leave and you get the house all to yourself!!

notice Cassis' paws - all "no no stop"

Cassis put up with this for a few minutes and eventually left. The expression on her face in that last picture pretty much sums it up.

Daiquiri is pretty funny about kittens. When Cassis first was allowed out of the foster room full time, Daiquiri found her mostly annoying. We think she still does, but like Tommy and Spud decides after a few days that being annoyed doesn't make the kitten go away and requires too much effort.

foster room

Mom spent last weekend cleaning and moving some stuff around in the foster room to get it ready for "kitten season" this year. Dandelion hasn't been interested in the room at all, but apparently mom being in there changed his mind and he spent some time over the rest of the weekend laying by the door trying to figure out what is on the other side. Cassis was keeping him company....mostly.

Speaking of Cassis, she didn't get spayed on Monday. She was a little sneezy over the weekend and mom didn't feel like running Cass to the clinic just to be told they wouldn't spay her. She has been rescheduled for the first part of February.
(with this particular clinic, they won't do surgery for ANY little thing that they think is wrong....and since we live on one side of town and mom works over on the other side of town, it is a pain to get a kitten to the clinic and then have to figure out how to get them home again)

Housewreckers R Us

Mom still has our gingerbread house from 2015 in the living room. The castle is in the foster room and will probably stay there. After this adventure, we aren't too sure how long the gingerbread house is going to survive....though mom plans to leave it out since someone is usually sleeping inside it.

roof inspectors

doesn't look sturdy, does it?

inspector's boss lady says - you are doing it wrong

ok kid - get outta there

It is amazing how well this has held up over time. Of course, with the foster room, there aren't marauding kittens that cause more destruction than we do around here.

playtime

After Christmas, we got a box in the mail. Mom opened it and our friends The Island Cats had sent presents to the foster kittens. One was another of the famous blue track ball. The other was this toy. Mom is saving the blue track for fosters this spring. Cassis is loving this toy mom put out....and Daiquiri and Dandelion play with it as well. Thanks to Wally, Ernie, Zoey and their mom.

Happy 2017

We had a quiet weekend. Mom caught a cold the end of last week, so she did a few errands around the house but otherwise we sat around and kept each other company.

We wish for you a peaceful and wonderful 2017. Thank you for continuing to be our friends and coming along for the ride with us.

This is as close as Ivy gets to snuggling with kittens

Year in Review - Part 2

July
  Muscari got adopted and there was some banging of fireworks in our area.

  Mom continued to work with the shy tortie girls from the tree kitten group.

  We showed you the FIV room being built for our rescue group (it is now open and cats have been adopted!!)

  We had some sad news when we learned Trillium from the flower group passed away. He was pretty sick and being cared for by another foster lady.

  Mom took a short vacation to Maine and spent some time with the cat ladies from Tails from the Foster Kittens, Love and Hisses and Whiskers in the Window. They took a shelter tour while they were there.

  Mom continued to work with the tree kittens. And Cedar got adopted!

And toward the end of the month, we were joined by the Patriot Girls - Liberty and Freedom.
~~~~~~~~~~
August
  Ivy turned 8 years old and Tommy celebrated his 11th Gotcha Day.
  Amaryllis got adopted and we added a couple of kittens for a short period of time.
 We celebrated our 7th blogoversary!
  Did a little TNR.
  Sherlock got into trouble and adopted all on the same day.
 The beer kittens showed up as fosters.
 Mom completed another change to the foster room.
  And then Marilyn and her kittens moved in as well.
  Daiquiri turned 2 years old.  Fiona the feral momma cat and her kittens joined us. And then Wheat made an appearance to join the beer kittens.
~~~~~~~~~~

September

  Mom continued to get her baby fix from Marilyn's boy - Russell and Monroe while we tried to figure out what to do with Fiona and her kittens.

  Hops got adopted!! And the brandy kittens finally got their names.

  Spud celebrated a birthday, Barley went to the adoption center and we got a new girl kitten.

  Things got bad locally here when the county dog shelter screwed up in a major way.

  There was a kitten report about Wheat, Saldano and the brandy kittens and Marilyn's boys.

  Mozart celebrated a birthday.

  The brandy kittens had some health issues but continued to do ok and every foster kitten was well.
~~~~~~~~~~
October
  Mom was on her way to the annual fundraiser when a young orange cat wandered up to her (isn't that how it always works?). She picked him up, took him to the rescue and named him Waffles. He has since been adopted.
  Mom continued on working to get Liberty and Freedom socialized. Tommy celebrated a birthday. And Marilyn and the kittens moved to the foster room.
  The kittens continued to do well and loved having more space.
  Unfortunately, mom came home from work one afternoon and discovered that Monroe had crossed Rainbow Bridge.
  Dandelion came back as a foster. (sigh) The kittens got a new toy and continued to do well. Sumac got adopted and the brandy kittens started turning white. We also learned that Hemlock passed away in her sleep at the adoption center.
~~~~~~~~~~

November

  All the kittens continued to do very well, though the brandy kittens took their sweet time gaining weight. Russell and Saldano finally did make weight and headed up to the adoption center.

  Wheat went home with her new family and Marilyn went off to a partner store to look for hers.

  We continued on the v-e-t adventure with Dandelion to figure out what is going on with him.

  The brandy kittens were the only ones left in the foster room and got themselves a castle.

   Mom took the brandy kittens out in public. Kirsch and Calvados made it over 2 pounds and were scheduled for surgery as well.

  Russell and Saldano were adopted!! (not together) Marilyn also got adopted!!

  Cassis came and joined the foster group.

  The brandy kittens temporarily joined the kitten fight club. There was a BIG adoption event over the Thanksgiving weekend. Mom was at a couple of remote locations. Kirsch and Calvados were both adopted that weekend (not together).

  There was an update on the patriot girls as we pushed to try to find them a home.
~~~~~~~~~~
December
  The patriot girls went to one of our local partner stores when a cage opened up.
  Dandelion was tested and vetted and we still don't have any good answers about his snot.
  We won a new piece of cat furniture.
  The remaining two brandy kittens continued to do well.
  At 4 months old, Chambord finally made weight to get spayed and then shortly thereafter went to the adoption center. She went home on 12/23.
 We wished you all a Merry Catmas.
~~~~~~~~~~~

Thank you as always for being our friends and following along on our adventures. We love having your purrs and support for the good and the bad times. We wish you all a happy and healthy 2017!!

Numbers: 26 kittens this year. There are still 4 left to be adopted: Dandelion, Liberty and Freedom, and Cassis. We did have 4 kittens pass away. Everyone else is adopted.

Almost time

We hope you all had a wonderful holiday no matter how you celebrate. Mom was in Tennessee with her family and had a wonderful time. The pet sitters are great, but we are glad she is home.

The spay/neuter clinic is closed this week, so mom will call next week to get Cassis all set up for her spay surgery and then she will go to the adoption center to find her new home.

For those who didn't see it on facebook, Chambord was adopted on Friday!! She went home with a family with 2 older kids and they adopted another kitten at the same time.

We wish ALL of you a very Merry Catmas and Happy Holidays. We are posting this now since we take weekends off.

weekend report

It was still pretty chilly here but warmer than mid week. Amazing that 32 degrees feels balmy after 6 degrees and a negative windshield. Mom especially worries about our feral girl Allies this time of year,  but Allies has been seen a few times this week...once even confirming for mom that Allie does take refuge and sleep in the shelters in the garage.

Saturday morning the little girls got out of the foster room. And that afternoon Mom took Chambord up to the adoption center. It wasn't very busy so at the suggestion of another volunteer that cleans at the same store where mom cleans, they put Chambord in with the patriot girls for a couple of days. If no applications by Monday, mom will take her to the adoption center on Tuesday.
Cassis is enjoying being out during the day but mom is putting her back in the foster room at night.

Daiquiri

Ivy

Mozart

The rest of us spent the weekend keeping warm and snoozing.

brandy kittens

The little girls are doing well. Considering that Chambord's momma was feral and we don't know anything about Cassis before she got here, these two are SUPER lovey and people friendly.

Cassis still has runny eyeballs. She is over 2 pounds but we are a little stuck until she is completely healthy. More than likely she will be here over Christmas. Mom was at the rescue the other day and there were no kittens, so she isn't sure what that means for Cassis. We don't normally let little kittens like her out in the house 24/7, but we don't want to leave her in the foster room all by herself. She needs company (plus lonely kittens tend to LOUDLY sing the "I'm lonely" song).

Chambord is a ham. She loves being on her back like this....if she gets bitey, mom flips Cham's tail up and she will groom the heck out of it. MOL Chambord still loves being up on mom's shoulder but tends more to use it as a launching pad. And her favorite toy: Cassis' tail. Chambord had surgery yesterday so she will go up to the adoption center this weekend and we suspect she will go pretty quickly.

weekend report

Mom was busy on Saturday and got to relax on Sunday.

Everyone here is good. We are hoping to get a report on Dandelion today or tomorrow.

Liberty decided Dandelion was all that and fun to play with.

Freedom and the little girls take a turn with the trackball.

Cassis now has a cold so she is on meds. Chambord is feeling better and needs to be scheduled for surgery.

And....the patriot girls went to one of the rescue's partner stores on Saturday. One of the adults has a medical issue and was moved back to the rescue facility. That left a spot open and mom moved the girls. She said it was harder than she expected. Mom cleaned again on Sunday and the girls were out and being friendly which was great. Hopefully the right person or family will come along soon and they will get a forever home.
