Year in Review - Part 2

July
  Muscari got adopted and there was some banging of fireworks in our area.

  Mom continued to work with the shy tortie girls from the tree kitten group.

  We showed you the FIV room being built for our rescue group (it is now open and cats have been adopted!!)

  We had some sad news when we learned Trillium from the flower group passed away. He was pretty sick and being cared for by another foster lady.

  Mom took a short vacation to Maine and spent some time with the cat ladies from Tails from the Foster Kittens, Love and Hisses and Whiskers in the Window. They took a shelter tour while they were there.

  Mom continued to work with the tree kittens. And Cedar got adopted!

And toward the end of the month, we were joined by the Patriot Girls - Liberty and Freedom.
~~~~~~~~~~
August
  Ivy turned 8 years old and Tommy celebrated his 11th Gotcha Day.
  Amaryllis got adopted and we added a couple of kittens for a short period of time.
 We celebrated our 7th blogoversary!
  Did a little TNR.
  Sherlock got into trouble and adopted all on the same day.
 The beer kittens showed up as fosters.
 Mom completed another change to the foster room.
  And then Marilyn and her kittens moved in as well.
  Daiquiri turned 2 years old.  Fiona the feral momma cat and her kittens joined us. And then Wheat made an appearance to join the beer kittens.
~~~~~~~~~~

September

  Mom continued to get her baby fix from Marilyn's boy - Russell and Monroe while we tried to figure out what to do with Fiona and her kittens.

  Hops got adopted!! And the brandy kittens finally got their names.

  Spud celebrated a birthday, Barley went to the adoption center and we got a new girl kitten.

  Things got bad locally here when the county dog shelter screwed up in a major way.

  There was a kitten report about Wheat, Saldano and the brandy kittens and Marilyn's boys.

  Mozart celebrated a birthday.

  The brandy kittens had some health issues but continued to do ok and every foster kitten was well.
~~~~~~~~~~
October
  Mom was on her way to the annual fundraiser when a young orange cat wandered up to her (isn't that how it always works?). She picked him up, took him to the rescue and named him Waffles. He has since been adopted.
  Mom continued on working to get Liberty and Freedom socialized. Tommy celebrated a birthday. And Marilyn and the kittens moved to the foster room.
  The kittens continued to do well and loved having more space.
  Unfortunately, mom came home from work one afternoon and discovered that Monroe had crossed Rainbow Bridge.
  Dandelion came back as a foster. (sigh) The kittens got a new toy and continued to do well. Sumac got adopted and the brandy kittens started turning white. We also learned that Hemlock passed away in her sleep at the adoption center.
~~~~~~~~~~

November

  All the kittens continued to do very well, though the brandy kittens took their sweet time gaining weight. Russell and Saldano finally did make weight and headed up to the adoption center.

  Wheat went home with her new family and Marilyn went off to a partner store to look for hers.

  We continued on the v-e-t adventure with Dandelion to figure out what is going on with him.

  The brandy kittens were the only ones left in the foster room and got themselves a castle.

   Mom took the brandy kittens out in public. Kirsch and Calvados made it over 2 pounds and were scheduled for surgery as well.

  Russell and Saldano were adopted!! (not together) Marilyn also got adopted!!

  Cassis came and joined the foster group.

  The brandy kittens temporarily joined the kitten fight club. There was a BIG adoption event over the Thanksgiving weekend. Mom was at a couple of remote locations. Kirsch and Calvados were both adopted that weekend (not together).

  There was an update on the patriot girls as we pushed to try to find them a home.
~~~~~~~~~~
December
  The patriot girls went to one of our local partner stores when a cage opened up.
  Dandelion was tested and vetted and we still don't have any good answers about his snot.
  We won a new piece of cat furniture.
  The remaining two brandy kittens continued to do well.
  At 4 months old, Chambord finally made weight to get spayed and then shortly thereafter went to the adoption center. She went home on 12/23.
 We wished you all a Merry Catmas.
~~~~~~~~~~~

Thank you as always for being our friends and following along on our adventures. We love having your purrs and support for the good and the bad times. We wish you all a happy and healthy 2017!!

Numbers: 26 kittens this year. There are still 4 left to be adopted: Dandelion, Liberty and Freedom, and Cassis. We did have 4 kittens pass away. Everyone else is adopted.

Momma cat Monday

Most of you remember this girl:

You know - she came with these guys???

Yep - that is Marilyn. She was super sweet and a wonderful momma while she was here - even helping out with the brandy kittens.

Well....last Thursday night mom got a text from the rescue that there was an application for Marilyn if mom wanted to process it. YES PLEASE!!!

Marilyn was adopted Friday afternoon to a single retired lady. She is going to be spoiled rotten. When mom spoke to Miss A on the phone, she said that she lost her previous cat in October and wasn't really looking to adopt. But she was out running errands and saw the store and stopped to pick up something for her daughter's cats. And she saw Marilyn in the adoption windows and asked to see her. An employee got her out and they sat on the bench. Marilyn reach out one paw and tapped Miss A on the arm...and she knew this was the one.

Congrats to Marilyn and Miss A!!!

weekend report

It was a nice weekend here....nice weather and ot too busy.

Mom did do a transport on Saturday for the bloodhound rescue. Jake and Duke are 18 month old brothers left a high kill shelter. They were not neutered, heartwork positive and had entropian (their eyelids curl in and their eye lashes rub on their corneas). They were good in the car but the cones were pretty big and kept whacking each other and mom.

Cookies? For me?

Marilyn was spayed on Friday and did well. Mom got called that she was done early and picked her up falong with 4 other cats from the rescue. Marilyn is now at one of our rescue partner stores and will hopefully be adopted quickly.

This little girl was one of the pick ups on Friday....Wheat is finally healthy and made weight and went home with her new family on Saturday.

Random Fridays

Dandelion has a v-e-t appointment this afternoon. That poor kitten...he was so sick when he was little, got better, got sick, got better, got ringworm, got better, got sick and ended up with us. While he no longer seems snotty, he has developed a pretty bad cough which worries mom. She isn't sure if it may just be damage from the pneumonia he had when he was little or if he has something new. So...off to visit the v-e-t.

~~~~~~~~~
Speaking of the v-e-t, Marilyn got a clear report. Her teeth look good and while she definitely snorts (which may just be her), there wasn't anything that jumped out at the vet. Mom is going to talk to the head of the rescue and then get Marilyn set up for spay. YAY!!! Then we hope there is an open spot at a store and she will be off to a forever home.
~~~~~~~~~~

Tuesday night mom was volunteering at the shelter and a nice couple came in looking to adopt. They had very suddenly lost their cat of 8 years a few weeks ago and their apartment was just empty and quiet without a cat. They looked around and wanted to meet Yuengling, a young gray and white female cat. This girl came in with her sister and they were both fairly shy. Her sister was adopted and Yuengling was adopted and then returned due to being shy (don't get mom started - she met the other lady and they talked and the woman swore she understood and would be patient....grrr). Anyhow, the 3 of them went into a get acquainted room and spent some time and the couple decided this was the girl for them. YAY!!!  Mom gave them full disclosure and some recommendations about how to help her come out of her shell. Fortunately, it is just the couple in a 2 bedroom apartment...which sounds ideal.

Russell and Saldano are still at the adoption center. Hopefully this is their weekend.

outtakes

Thank heavens for digital cameras. Mom was taking pictures the other night - trying to get decent shots of Saldano and Russell to get on the website. However, the kittens were a little too curious about what mom was doing and kept sticking their noses in it....literally!!

those may be Marilyn's whiskers

great timing kitten

no idea who's nose that may be

weekend report

Mom took Russell, Saldano and Dandelion to a senior living event in our area on Friday. Everyone did very well and we did some sales of cat toys and got some donations.

Russell and Saldano are ready for adoption, so they went up to the adoption center on Saturday. No news, but we hope they get adopted quickly.

The brandy kittens and Marilyn are in the foster space and doing well. Marilyn sounds kind of stuffed up so she will get checked out this afternoon. Then she should be cleared for surgery and she will be ready for adoption. Mom will get her into the adoption system and then talk to another volunteer about getting Marilyn into a store space when one becomes available.

The brandy kittens continue to do well - active, hungry, and ready for action. Mom weighed them and everyone is STILL under 2 pounds...though Calvados is creeping up on it.

Freedom sure does love that hammock

Liberty - giving mom "the look"
We are fortunate that we have a friend who is going to help us socialize the girls some. We are hoping that having them exposed to different people will help build their confidence. They still need to be spayed - and the clinics here are just overbooked. But once that happens they will go up on the website (and hopefully to a store space as well).

Dandelion - too bad he can't relax
Dandelion is doing very well. He has made himself at home (NO - he is NOT staying). Daiquiri has decided he isn't so bad....unless he is stealing her toys, then it is a whole other thing (and by that we mean she walks over to mom and meeps a serious complaint about it).

before Saldano and Russell left
the little ones sure do love that scratcher

Random Fridays

Jan asked last week if the reason that no one freaked out about Dandelion was that we have kittens moving through so often. We have to say, that is most likely the reason. Mom laughs when people ask her about introductions. She can give all the advice in the world, but she will have to admit that we tend to make it easy for her. Even with Dandelion, Tommy hissed for a couple of days and Daiquiri got a little bent out of shape, but no one was really upset or did anything about it. Mom says she thinks we see a carrier with kittens in it and just think "oh look - more". MOL
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mom is taking Dandelion, Saldano and Russell to a senior living event today. She loves talking to the public about adopting and fostering and hopefully she can get some seniors interested in some of our rescue's older cats. She is going to try to print a list of the cats that are over 5 years old to take with her.
Russell and Saldano may go up to the adoption center this weekend. Dandelion is still kind of snorty so we will continue his meds and see what happens.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

a tough life for a momma cat - MOL
A certain momma cat has a v-e-t appointment next Tuesday and then we are going to try to get her spayed and placed in a store adoption location and on her way to a forever home. Mom wants to v-e-t to give her the once over....Marilyn has some dragon breath and flinches if mom gets too close to certain parts of her face.  As for ready to go, the kittens still occasionally try to nurse, but she seems VERY over that and has taken to chasing the kittens around. Since the brandy kittens are still pretty tiny, getting Marilyn on her way seems a good choice.

random Friday

News: mom got the last two boards to put up on the doors and got them installed on Wednesday after work. THAT should slow down climbing kittens. MOL  And....we got a replacement camera. Mom is going to work on it Saturday afternoon and hopefully we will be back up and running (no promises since it took mom the techno-dork about a week last time). We will let you know....

Poor Marilyn - those kittens just won't leave her alone
(and no, she isn't as sad as she appears - just half asleep)

The nice part of having all of the kittens together is that
Russell and Saldano are about the same size....so when
they decide to beat on each other it is a fair fight.

Dis my momma - get your own.
(and as an aside, mom STILL can't tell the girls apart)

Well...Saldano and Russell are over 2 pounds and are scheduled for surgery on Monday. We always bring our kittens home for a couple of days after surgery so they will go to the adoption center next week sometime. There are a few kittens their size but we still suspect they will go quickly.
          Weights:
Wheat 1 pound 11 3/4 ounces
Saldano. 2 pound 1 1/2 ounces
Russell 1 pound 15 3/8 ounces
Calvados 1 pound 6 3/8 ounces
Kitsch 1 pound 3 1/8 ounces
Chambord 1 pound 3 1/4 ounces

Oh - and a couple of other updates. Mom asked about Dandelion - he wasn't adopted but apparently had gone back into foster to get over a cold and managed to pick up ringworm, so he was in quarantine at the adoption center being treated for that. He is close to being done, so mom is hoping maybe a spot will open up at one of the stores and he can go there. Can you believe those kittens are over 6 months old???
the cute was deadly at that size

And....Sumac went to another foster home for....a cold (it gets around). She apparently has come COMPLETELY out of her shell. She was at one of our remote adoption locations and was doing great. If she goes back there mom will stop by to see her and get a picture.

Otherwise, mom has a transport on Saturday and then plans to yell at the TV some in the afternoon. Fall is mostly here....it gets chilly at night and we are all loving it. Open windows and everything. Have a safe and wonderful weekend.....
