A weird day in rescue

 *a post from the mom

For anyone in rescue, you know it can be a total up and down adventure.

Friday was totally one of those days. The alarm went off and when I turned it off I discovered a text from another volunteer that the family that adopted Annatto who was here as a foster in August 2017. For new readers, he was surrendered to a local vet. When they tested him they discovered he was FIV+ and sent him to rescue. Of course Colony Cats believes FIV+ and negative cats can live together, so I took him to foster and introduced him to the spice kittens and when they were adopted, he met Goldfish.

Well his name is now Roe and his family adores him.

So that's a pretty great way to start the morning.

However, later that morning I got a text from the director of the rescue. I had done an adoption on Wednesday to a family of two cats - one went home and the other we kept back when we realized she had a big bump over her spay incision. She was seen by the vet the next day. Friday morning the volunteers came in and found she had passed away over night. She was 3 years old and super sweet. I had to call the family who was waiting for an update on when they could take her home only to have to tell them that she had died. (before you judge, I offered to contact them since I had met them all on Wednesday) Fortunately the family was very understanding and will be coming in next week to see if they meet another cat to adopt.

state of the cats

we thought we would just give everyone a general update on everyone here...in no particular order (cause the computer won't cooperate)

Tim  is still the gentleman chicken of the family. Mom had the cable changed over a couple of weeks ago and Tim was under cover most of the day. But he is so wonderful with our foster kittens.

Allie is doing great too. Mom doesn't see her as much in the summer/fall but enough so that mom doesn't worry too much.

Junior is doing better. For a while there (mom swears it was the weather or something), he was getting kind of aggressive forward with Ivy and Spud. In the past couple of weeks he has backed off a bit and things are more calm. Mom is still working on a walkway over the window in our entry that will hopefully give everyone a little more space.

Tim and Tom seem the be the only ones that will truly put up with Junior. Tommy is doing well as head mancat. He seems to have a weird lingering sneeze that mom will have the v-e-t check in to the next time she is over. Tim and Tom are going to be 11 and are doing well.

Ivy is still the princess. Hates having her nails trimmed, hates Junior, would love it if mom would stay home more and provide more lap time.

Mo...what can we say about the house panther??  Oh - get this...for Black Cat Appreciation Day, he tried to bite mom...got a few layers of skin. (she was trimming his nails) But this is the same cat that will come up and sleep on his back next to her in the chair while she is reading.

Spud....mom worries most about him. He is just so afraid of so many things. But we love him and he is affectionate to mom sometimes. And like everyone else in the house, lurvs him some Tim.

Ash and Coral are doing well. Mom thought she had a line on an adopter for Ash but the lady ended up adopting a different kitten from the adoption center. That is ok, but mom had her fingers crossed.

Quartz and Jet seem healthy....cross your paws. Mom has to get their info up on Petfinder and hopefully can get them up to the adoption center.

Clementine and Tangerine are doing great. Starting to eat on their own and using the box. Tange is more of an observer, though she loves getting some hits in on her brother. Clem is just...cute. And mom has the baby jail gate set up in front of the bathroom so that she can leave the door open while she is getting ready for bed or for work. Clem loves to go sit by the gate and give Coral the eyes of love. goofball

Variety.....

It may be the spice of life, but right now, it just makes mom's eyes roll in her head.  MOL

Us: we is all doing good. Maestro has his bad moments when his mind wanders off...somewhere. But mostly he is doing good. Junior and Spud insist on occasionally trying to kill each other and Mom is trying to diffuse it all. She was hoping the trees would help, but they still cross paths in a couple of tight corners and then the name calling starts....sometimes she can diffuse it and sometimes she doesn't see them.

Wendy and the fast food kittens:

Wendy is a bit.....angry. Mom tried to put the outlaws in the bathroom to make it easy. Nope - she whapped Doc. And while she had been staying in the bathroom behind the baby gate, the other night she decided to sit OUTSIDE the gate. Which puts her right in front of the door to the room with our stuff. And she growls and hisses and calls us names. Oh, and she was singing the "let me out" song several times last night. Which is weird since she doesn't even LIKE being out.....

The kitts are doing well. They are scheduled to be neutered on the 21st, but mom isn't sure they are all going to make weight. Something about running off as many calories as they take in. MOL

The outlaws:

Doc Holiday & Mustang Sally are doing well. Still kinda tiny, but outgoing. And Sally is ALWAYS hungry!! If mom gets up for something, Sally is sure it is to feed her NOW!!!! She follows mom around screaming. Mom feeds them canned 3-4 times per day - but she has to supervise since we kinda...well...may not leave them alone. :)

Allie and her kittens:

With a negative test, it is now just about giving the kittens time to grow. They are in what mom calls the "ewok" stage. MOL Allie is eating and caring for the kids - though not a fan of mom. Or us for that matter - Tommy snuck down there and the cursing was pretty bad (from Allie and from mom). Mom wishes she had some tech skills cause it would be nice to put a web cam on the cage to see what they are doing down there (and when the kittens start eating on their own). But, Allie seems ok for now...
[ps from this morning - mom went down to clean up and feed everyone. most of the kittens came forward to greet her. AND...she saw the little gray (male) baby eating the dry food - hehehe]

And a picture of the kid. Mom spent Wednesday at the zoo with her....

The polar bears were AWESOME!!!
