Thankful Thursday

Mom is going through withdrawal.....

Don't get us wrong - every day we go without a call about kittens is a GOOD day as it is that many more days of having to run and try to save these little lives.

But mom misses the tinies.....

National Feral Cat Day.....

Alley Cat Allies is celebrating National Feral Cat Day....  TODAY!!!

Most of you know that we are BIG fans of TNR. And we are lucky enough to live in a city that has a very good local low cost clinic (SOS) that will take feral cats - the same day you trap them (ok, provided the clinic is open, but still.....)

TNR is how this guy came to live with us:

(who knew this would grow into the 16 pound orange menace)

And there are the cats we have trapped in the neighborhood over the last two years - and the kittens that we caught and have been adopted. Bug's mom was TNR'd, so was Doc and Sally's mom and the memorial day kittens.

Most recently there was Allie and the alcohol kittens......

Not only have the kittens found home (or are looking), the adults are no longer able to reproduce and are being cared for the best we can (shelter and food).

There are lots of ways you can help:
   1. see if there are events in your area
   2. TNR in your neighborhood - or contact a local group that is doing TNR in your area
we have two around here that mom supports: Colony Cats and Black and Orange Cat Foundation
   3. Like Alley Cat Allies on Facebook

And there are so many other ways to help. And every little step takes us one more step closer to a day when ferals are not killed for being feral.

It happened.....

Well, the day has come.....

Mom sent Banyon home this morning with her new mom and dad. They have a 12 year old maine coon mix that will be her new brother.

So, mom took Doc and Sally with her when she finalized the adoption and left them there to be adopted. Doc could smell Banyon in the cage and was kind of hissy, but they will be fine. Mom is going to give them a couple of days and then see if she can open up the cages so they can run with the other 2 kittens over there.

We want to wish everyone in the US a Happy Labor Day Weekend. Mom is declaring her day off on Monday to be a "no labor day". YEAH!!!!

Mom finally stopped procrastinating and sent Doc and Sally's info into the rescue contact to get them up on Petfinder. They are healthy and ready to go and any delay now just means they are getting bigger - at our house rather than in their new homes. :)

Weekend update.....

Mom did another transport run on Saturday for Ontario Bloodhound. Though she did say that while the girls (Cagney & Lacey) are cute, she didn't think they were "truly" bloodhounds. But, they are very sweet and were saved from a kill shelter in Kentucky. They are now in foster in Canada.

There were some comments about Bourbon last week. Honestly, while mom worries about him, she knows that he doesn't know he is different. He climbs the cat tree, does the stairs and climbs up in the chair (where he and mom took a nap on Saturday afternoon - what a tough life). He can't really jump too far, but otherwise no big deal. :) And he isn't in any pain which is a HUGE thing.

you can't resist the Bourbony cuteness

Moonshine giving one of his brothers the look

In response to several comments, yep, the foster monsters woke up from their naps and ran around like lunatics - before falling over for another nap. Mom didn't have the camera out, but at one point Doc got the crazies and was bouncing around in halloween cat style and climbing all over the sofa.

Everyone here is doing very well. Mom has decided that where there is an opening at Petco that Doc and Sally will go up next. However, August is typically slow for adoptions for most rescues, so it may be a little bit. Hopefully not too long.....

Wordy Wednesday....

ummm - this was Sunday morning. Mom saw Doc run by with something red. Puzzled, she leaned over to find this picture. Yes - that is Mo's collar. It was rescued and returned to its proper owner. No one is confessing on how it got off......  And it isn't like we don't have enough toys in the house!!

Now, we know most of you have experienced this: the thud or weird noise from another room. Anyone with animals or kids knows what we are talking about. Well, this morning, it happened again....  the strange thud from the back bedroom. Mom debated - to check or not to check?? With a sigh, she walked back - and found Doc had found a new (to him) box and was thumping it around the room. That boy.....

Right now everyone seems to be doing well. The alcohol kittens are in the bathroom during the day - makes it easier for mom to keep track of them - she is still pretty worried. Miss Beckie had 3 kittens run for the Bridge from her house on Monday night. We aren't sure if it is something weird or if it something Bear had since he was at both houses. For now, we are keeping our paws crossed that there are no more kittens crossing the Bridge and everyone stays healthy.

ugh.....

Mom had plans for yesterday. Get up, do more laundry and head to Petco for their adoption weekend.

When she got up, Cognac was acting funny. Now, everyone was out yesterday and acting fine. Everyone ate last night. She tried to syringe feed him but he fought her pretty much. Mom got some water and some a/d into him - as much as possible.

She packed up Doc, Bourbon and Whiskey and headed out.

Ashley was adopted (YEAH) but the same family that adopted a kitten from the rescue last fall. The mom fell in love with Ashley yesterday (Ashley is 4 years old and has been with the rescue since she was a tiny kitten) and decided she had to take her home.

Since that emptied a cage, mom ran home and grabbed Sally so that Doc and Sally could stay at Petco looking for their forever homes. Cognac was laying down but seemed ok.

The kid joined mom at Petco. When they were done, they packed up Bourbon and Whiskey and headed home. Mom went into the bathroom....and Cognac had run for the Bridge.  Mom took him to the v-e-t where Bear is. She checked on him while she was there. Bear is ok - but not great. And seemingly not getting better.

So, we have the sads. And mom is worried that maybe there is something in the house that is causing all of this. She and Miss Beckie agreed that Doc and Sally needed to come back here just in case, so mom picked them up and brought them back here.

Please be thinking about everyone here while we figure this out.

RIP Cognac - we know your sister Amaretto was waiting to greet you when you crossed Rainbow Bridge

Ready or not.....

42??  Thanks for the responses - mom had no idea that Mo had been reading The Hitchhikers Guide. :)

Mom laughed when she saw a post yesterday from repositorio da marilia cause she has a very similar picture of Sally. Mom asks all the time how we sleep like this - we aren't tellin'. :)

Well, mom THOUGHT today is the day....Sally made weight over the weekend so she and Doc were headed to the clinic for surgery..... Mom got over there and they brought Sally back up. She weighs 1.8 pounds. argh!!!! Mom took her BACK home and will pick Doc up after work and they will spend a little time in "recovery" before being allowed to run all over again.

Mom is pretty sure the flashy box is dead. Sometimes it takes ok pictures, and sometimes they look like this:

Poor Sally looks like she has some weird disease.  :)

And if you could spare some purrs for Mahoney, that would be awesome. She is hurty and they aren't sure why.....

Now, for your snickering pleasure, the antics of Doc and Sally.....

Finally Friday.....

Well, we are short the fast food kittens. sigh......

Mom notice Sonic and BK limping like Arby had been. Both were hot to the touch to on Wednesday. She suspected calici, but they had been vaccinated and had no mouth ulcers. They were still eating though, so she didn't panic. Plus, they were scheduled to go in to the shelter on Thursday morning to be neutered (yeah, that wasn't going to happen, but the vet could see them). Both were given fluids and were feeling better according to a voicemail mom got. However, they wanted them to get fluids twice per week....so they sent all 3 boys home with the vet tech. Mom isn't really happy as she can give fluids but not much she can do about it.

The outlaws are doing well. Doc is out and about and playing. Sally is a....screamer. That girl has some lungs. Her main complaint is that she is always hungry - doesn't matter if she just ate or not. If mom gets up, Sally screams for a snack. Plus she can get over the baby jail gate so she has taken to following mom downstairs when mom goes to feed Allie's kittens. That causes mom to curse....now she has kittens trying to get out and Sally trying to get in and Allie hissing from the crate.

Speaking of Allie's kittens, mom is hoping to bring them up for a play date in baby jail on Saturday. This will give Allie a break, give mom a chance to catalog the kittens, and also give her a chance to see how well they are eating on their own. It amazing to see how quickly they went from "don't be touching us" to "hey are we happy to see you".

Hope everyone has a great weekend. We have the serious hots here so we are planning to stay inside in the a/c.....Spud is claiming the floor vent in the kitchen (a/c plus tile equals cooler long haired cat).

Hey: if you think about it, think good adoption thoughts for this weekend for Silver and the girls at Petco.

not so easy Sunday....

Yep - the outlaws were good for the v-e-t on Friday. Other than the blood curlding screams from Doc when they did the blood draw. Mom thought later she should have put the camera on record and stick it out the door....put it may have scared people. :)

Today is quiet and easy for us.....

But mom is taking Silver the brat and the outlaws to Petco for an adoption event. Silver is now 12 weeks old, spayed and ready to go.

@Connie asked yesterday how old the outlaws are and how much they weigh. Mom guesses they are about 5 weeks. And both weighed 1.05 pounds. Mom was weirded out by the weight and put them both back on a second time to be sure - cause they sure don't LOOK like they weigh the same. MOL

Well, Mom's parano-meter was going off after losing Annie & Wild Bill, so she decided to take the other two to have them tested. She was going to wait to have them tested on Tuesday but changed her mind and decided to take them to Noahs Ark and get them checked out and tested. Their gluscose was good which means they are eating ok. And their fiv/felv test was negative. Which is good news all around.

Sally was good - Doc SCREAMED when they tried to draw blood.

But they checked out ok and it is all good - now we keep up on the deworming and feeding.

Thanks so much for your comments yesterday - they helped to much.

Annie Oakley & Wild Bill

We have the sads.

Mom got home last night from work - running to get everyone fed and get changed and then pick up the kid to help at the shelter.

Only she looked into baby jail....

Annie had run for the Bridge.  And Wild Bill was dying.

She called Grandma to tell her she wouldn't be picking up the kid, sent a text to let them know she wasn't coming to the shelter and called the vet to say she was on her way. She held Bill the entire drive and whispered to him that it was OK to leave and be with his sister. He died at the vet's office.

The very nice Dr Mr Myers walked in after everything had happened and expressed his shock and offered to look at the kittens to see if he could find a cause of death. Annie had poly cystic kidney disease - there wasn't much that could have been done for her. Nothing conclusive on Bill. Though they did test for panleuk and it was negative.

As mom types this, Doc and Sally are wrestling in the cleaned up baby jail (mom is also doing laundry). They are twice the size and twice as active......maybe it just wasn't meant to be.

But Wild Bill and Annie Oakley were loved and safe and cared for.....and they had a name. Safe journey babies....there will be many there to meet you and keep you safe.
