adoption news

ADOPTED

that face kills mom

We know that a lot of you were beginning to think that Dandelion was going to become a permanent resident. Honestly, if circumstances were a little different here, that might have happened. But mom reminds herself that she has to know us and know her limits and this would have been WAY over the limit.

After discovering that Dandelion wasn't on Petfinder, she got his information updated. Shortly thereafter, she got an application. She reviewed all the information and they emailed back and forth a few times - talking about his attitude (or general lack thereof) and his medical background. The couple that put in the application have an older female (about 15) and an 8 month old boy (who is driving her insane). Little Bit was raised from a kitten and Rocky was found when he was tiny. Since he didn't have any siblings, he is a bit of a doofus and Little Bit is not having it. D and J decided that Rocky needs a friend who was tolerant but would also be very respectful of Little Bit.

Monday night mom took Dandelion with her to the store while she was cleaning and then met with D and J. Mom was sitting on the floor with Dandelion when they came in and after introductions, they sat down with her. Dandelion almost immediately crawled off of mom's lap and into D's lap. He stayed there for a while and then climbed into J's lap as well. There were a few kids in the store and he was great with them as well. Mom and D and J did the paperwork but they decided to wait a couple of days to take him home. They wanted to get a space set up specifically for him and they also brought a cloth that they rubbed all over him (and he LOVED that) to give to Little Bit since ultimately it is going to be her decision if he stays. D and J are committed to keeping him but obviously the old lady cat gets first vote. Mom says she is sure it will be fine as he is so respectful of everyone here.

So last night she packed up the big orange boy along with a care package of his meds and some treats and toys and sent him off to his new home. She did make them aware that she wants updates - LOTS of updates - and we will keep you posted on his progress as well.

Just in time for his birthday, our Dandelion boy found his forever home.

*from the mom: this one, as you can all imagine, was a hard one. trust me when I say that if I had ANY doubts about this couple, he wouldn't be leaving. the fact that he climbed right in their laps within a few minutes of meeting them and was SO completely relaxed sealed the deal for me. I knew he deserves a home of his own without the chaos that comes with living here. but wow am I going to miss him.

foster room

Mom spent last weekend cleaning and moving some stuff around in the foster room to get it ready for "kitten season" this year. Dandelion hasn't been interested in the room at all, but apparently mom being in there changed his mind and he spent some time over the rest of the weekend laying by the door trying to figure out what is on the other side. Cassis was keeping him company....mostly.

Speaking of Cassis, she didn't get spayed on Monday. She was a little sneezy over the weekend and mom didn't feel like running Cass to the clinic just to be told they wouldn't spay her. She has been rescheduled for the first part of February.
(with this particular clinic, they won't do surgery for ANY little thing that they think is wrong....and since we live on one side of town and mom works over on the other side of town, it is a pain to get a kitten to the clinic and then have to figure out how to get them home again)

Kiss a Ginger Day

We have a ginger cat who lives here.....but there will be NO kissing Junior....

However, we have had some adorable gingers in the past year that were VERY kissable.
two of the flower kittens were gingers

Barney and Fanta from Best Friends

3 of the 6 tree kittens (the boys) were gingers
Hey - did we tell you about Alder?? He was fostered by another volunteer when he went to the adoption center and then got a cold. Well....Miss K fell in love and adopted him. She and mom are friends on facebook so mom gets to see him (now Jojo) from time to time. Miss K fosters and Jojo is helping to raise foster kittens with her. aww.....

Happy 2017

We had a quiet weekend. Mom caught a cold the end of last week, so she did a few errands around the house but otherwise we sat around and kept each other company.

We wish for you a peaceful and wonderful 2017. Thank you for continuing to be our friends and coming along for the ride with us.

This is as close as Ivy gets to snuggling with kittens

lots of orangey goodness

Year in Review - Part 1

January
  Those French City Kittens were still in residence.

  A local group of artists donated cat art to raise money for targeted TNR in our area:

  Miss Calais (now Isadora or Izzy) went home to Connecticut. And we got an update.

  Tostada finally got adopted!!
~~~~~
February
  Nashville came back and hanging out with us to get over a cold.
   After several weeks at one of our partner stores, Margarita found her forever home!!!
~~~~~~~~~

March
   Mom started working on the "new" foster space in the house. It is still a work in progress, but she is glad she figured it out and it gives her the bathroom back. MOL

  Daiquiri developed a weird fascination with the TV in the bedroom.

  Nashville was ADOPTED!!!!

  On March 25, the air was sucked out of the house when Tim crossed Rainbow Bridge. Mom still misses him very much....especially when she sits with the foster kittens since he was so much help in raising great kittens.

  Fortunately to lighten mom's heart, we got a laugh out loud update on Izzy.

  Then these guys arrived:
~~~~~~~~~~
April
  We celebrated Mom's birthday and she got a cute present from the kid. And of course, LOTS of pictures of the new kittens - who were named after a flower theme: Amarylis, Muscari, Trillium, Orchid and Dandelion.
  We got some eyeballs:
  And the baby antics continued:
  Then suddenly the flower kittens were 4 weeks old:
Orchid (her leg warmer gives her away)
Dandelion
~~~~~~~~~~

May
  The flower kittens turned 6 weeks old and mom began to notice some medical issues with Trillium.

  Mom posted about Dog Bite Prevention Week along with 4 other bloggers.

  The kittens continued to grow though there were continued concerns about Trillium.

  The kittens turned 2 months old!!

  Mom took a trip to Best Friends Animal Society with the kid and her parents. part 2 and CalMar
    Mom also wrote about the measure of character after meeting a special cat there.

~~~~~~~~~~
June
  The first of the tree kittens showed up to gain some social skills and were introduced to the flower kittens.
  The tree kittens got names and both groups of kittens melded into one family (though momma cat Amaryllis surely would have been fine without more kittens in the house).
  We posted about Amaryllis trying to find her a home since she was ready to go.
  The 6th tree kitten showed up.  The kittens continued to grow and goof off.
  Trillium continued to stay with another foster mom and the remaining flower kittens went up to the adoption center.
  Mom continued to work with the tree kittens hoping to get the skittish kittens more social.
not the sharpest knife
Dandelion is a special boy. Not much seems to bother him - if he were a person, he would be that image of a surfer dude. But that said....he probably won't be helping you with your math homework either (if you know what we mean).
One of his favorite places to sleep is stretched out behind the cat ladder up against the wall. He leans his head against that arched scratcher and he is out like a light.
The other night mom had to move some things in order to tighten the tension on the cat ladder. When she did, the arch got moved slightly and is now a little bit over the floor vent. Dandelion went over and was snoozing and unbeknownst to him, Mozart crawled under the arch into his own private heated mancat cave. And upon doing so, the arch moved slightly and Dandelion was startled awake.
He KNOWS there is something going on....but cannot quite figure it out.
Mom mentioned it on facebook and Dandelion's other foster mom mentioned that she hadn't wanted to say anything but while he is super sweet, he is a little....dim. MOL  That about covers it. He does get along with every cat here, loves people, doesn't mind being out in public. But....not the sharpest knife....
**Have we mentioned recently that he is available for adoption and looking for his forever home???
ugh...test results
Anyone looking for a super sweet, laid back,
slightly snorty orange teenage kitten???
We will make you a good deal.....
He was still acting and sounding nasty the last couple of days. The v-e-t called mom last night with the bartonella test results (negative - ok, so we know it isn't THAT). Mom mentioned he was still snorty and not running around like he should be, so she dropped him off at the v-e-t office yesterday on her way to work.
Dr B called about 2pm yesterday. She is just as frustrated as mom about this whole thing. Dr B spoke to an internist and they went over what meds he has been on and his background. He does has a diminished lung capacity on one side, but the belief all everyone is that is damage from the pneumonia he had when he was tiny. The chest x-rays really haven't changed, so they are saying that is just something that he is going to have to live with - and probably won't cause too much long term issues though it may be why he isn't as active as some other kittens his age all the time.
But the snotty thing is a different issue. The head of the rescue suggested culturing the snot.... but the internist said that while we could knock him out and do that, it may just come back as the feline herpes virus which really is just something he would have to live with. The cost and the risk of it just isn't worth it to the internist. And mom is ok with that. However, what to do? He is on the rescue website and petfinder and can be adopted from our house without going back to the rescue with lots of other cats. However, it is hard to do that when people can't see him and it is also hard to explain to people that his breathing issues are most likely chronic and not "fixable". Ugh.....
Mom left him overnight at the v-e-t office. They have him set up in his own space with a vaporizor. The internist did suggest "a quiet home with maybe 1-2 other cats". Ummm sure - is HE going to take him???  Funny man....  Right now the plan is for mom to pick him back up after work today, see how he did overnight and if that changes anything.
We appreciate all the kind words and purrs for Dandelion. Hopefully we can get some answers and then find him a home willing to accept him on his terms.
(and NO he is NOT staying)
love...maybe
This was supposed to post on Wednesday. Somehow it got posted back to November 5th - and some of you saw it....technical difficulties  :)
Dandelion LOVES the girls. Freedom was the first to warm up to him and Liberty has since decided that he is fun as well. Though poor boy - Freedom kept climbing back INTO the foster room (and mom would put Liberty in there who would let herself back OUT). It has been a few days now and the girls seem to be very content living in the foster room with Chambord and Cassis. Mom gives them the opportunity to come out but they don't seem that interested. These pictures are from last weekend.
the expression on Freedom's face cracks us up
enough of that
Everyone is doing pretty well. We were hoping there would be an opening at a partner store for Freedom and Liberty, but nothing at the moment. They are fine here and they are on the website as well. Mom needs to weigh Cassis and Chambord is getting over a mild cold. Once they are big enough (Chambord already is) and ready to go, they can be spayed. We suspect with all of the adoptions last week they will go quickly.
Speaking of last weekend, the rescue did 109 adoptions in 4 days.....28 adults, 76 kittens (which includes juveniles) and 5 dogs. WOO HOO!!
