Almost a year ago (part one).....

First - yep, the kittens have calici. Antibiotics and other meds to help and just keeping them eating and comfortable.....  sigh

So on Friday we promised you an adoption update....

Rather than make this REALLY long, it will be in two parts.

About a year ago, we got a note about kittens being born near our condo.

Allie (the mom cat) was spayed and caged with her kittens to get them bigger. Once that happened, the kittens came upstairs to stay until they could be spayed/neutered and adopted.

Along the way we lost two of them: Cognac and Amaretto ran for the Bridge while here. We are sending them kisses and know they will get them.....

Gin was adopted by a family with 3 kids. Mom wasn't sure about that one but the mom comes into the Petco store and says she is doing great. Named Mulberry she loves the kids - and does jump on the mom when she is cooking. :)

Whiskey - now Tucker - was adopted pretty quickly. His new mom and dad are a retired couple and keep mom updated on him all the time. They even sent a picture to mom of Tucker and his sister Cleo celebrating their birthdays.

Last Friday after work mom stopped by and got to see Tucker in person. He is a very handsome mancat. He is a little shy around new people but his mom Judy says he is a total lap cat with her.

GIN GOT ADOPTED YESTERDAY!!!!!

So, for all the moaning and groaning and wait and everything else, Gin is the last of the alcohol kittens to get a home.  And it was worth the wait.....she has a new mom and dad and three kids to spoil her rotten.

Mom did get a laugh out of the adoption part of it too. When mom called the woman yesterday afternoon, the lady asked if they could meet in the afternoon as they are Turkish and their oldest son is taking language lessons. Sure...no problem. Mom got their a little early to do the paperwork. When the family got there....the lady and the daughter have their heads covered. And there is mom is all her glory: capris, messy hair in a pony tail, tattoo on her arm, and adopting out a kitten named after alcohol. Gotta love it. :)  They are renaming Gin....her new name is Mulberry. The lady got her out and Gin relaxed into her arms. And that makes it ALL worth the wait.

Oh, and we are back to just Emma here. Mom took Nurdle and Judy with her and left them in the cages at Petco with Maxine. Plus, mom put Emma on the treat scale there and it (very) unofficially says that Emma is (finally) over 2 pounds.

 Eileen mentioned on Monday that she bets Emma likes Nurdle cause he is her size. Actually, for being about 3 weeks YOUNGER, Nurdle is actually BIGGER than Emma.....

Keep in mind that Judy and Emma are both about 12-13 weeks old. Nurdle is about 9 weeks old. hmmmmm

OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!

Remember Eclipse from this summer???? Well, she didn't like it at the shelter much - she would growl and hiss at the other cats and try to slap volunteers (she is front declawed). Well......

On facebook on Tuesday, mom discovered that Eclipse was ADOPTED on Monday!!! Concats to her and her new family....we are glad they saw past her scared attitude and decided to give her a chance. They commented on the picture and said she was very relaxed and sleeping already at the house. :)

Thanks for all the comments about Tim and Tom on Tuesday.... (say that 10 times fast).  Mom says she isn't opposed to a full extraction, but doesn't want that to be the first option. Plus it sounds like everyone else out there is having the crazies, so mom says maybe the boys just lost their minds temporarily.  Hard to say.... at least we aren't telling. :)  Oh, and Tim seems to feel better some days than others, so yes, he was running around playing with the laser, but he is also still kinda hissy some times.....

Mom talked to our v-e-t Dr T yesterday and she wants mom to get Tim in to see a pet dentist. Cause even if it is stomatitis, that doesn't explain his reluctance to open his mouth or some of the other things mom has been seeing. Tim goes Monday to meet Dr. Tom.....(no, even we couldn't make up something like that...Tim going to see Dr Tom...hahaha)

Mom was hesitant to talk about this, but wants to throw it out there. A couple came in last weekend and said they were interested in Gin. Everything looked good until mom was going over Gin's medical records. Since the kitts were tiny when they were caught, their mom Allie was tested. It is policy of the rescue that if mom is tested and comes back negative, the kitts are not re-tested unless something arises that would make us think they have been exposed to something (mom is negative, kitts are negative - they get their antibodies from her). The lady freaked out....no way was she bringing a cat into her house that hadn't been tested. Mom tried to explain and she wasn't listening. Mom thought about trying to make another option for this couple, but decided that she wasn't going to cave to this woman.  We understand that people want to see "the test" on their cat - but this woman wouldn't listen to mom's explanation. (and her husband rolled his eyes at mom behind the lady's back, so we suspect she may just be like this)

Which leads us to this....we understand that not everyone does rescue. We understand that not everyone knows the ins and outs. But WHY do people have to act like they are doing us a favor by applying and adopting animals???  We heard more people complain about adoption fees and policies that we should. So, the next time you go to adopt, please understand that rescues are all different but they do things for a reason.....and the protection and happiness of the animal is their first priority (or at least it should be - some rescues are better than others).

And so, Gin is still waiting for her forever family.

Mom says that Gin is staying at Petco until she gets adopted so help her cod!!!  As of yesterday morning, Gin wasn't being very nice to Uncle Bill, but it wasn't attempted murder.....yet. :)

Moonshine is still here. Mom says she isn't sure what to do with the boy. He is a lovey guy when he is here but a serious crab at the store.

In the meantime, he and Bourbon are playing. Be sure to check your volume before hitting play - Moonshine is a screamer. MOL

Mom got thinking about Cleo. She needed to be away from the kitts and get some quiet after surgery. Yeah, that ain't gonna happen here. :)  So, mom got to thinking (a dangerous proposition, we admit). What if Gin and Shine came back here (again) and Cleo took their spot at Petco? Seemed like a good idea. So Cleo took their spot and they ended up in Cleo's carrier to come back to the house.

And Shine nearly got himself in BIG trouble....he threw a fit about getting in the carrier. And then growled and hissed and whacked at Gin until they got home. Mom knows it is cause the carrier smelled like Cleo, but sheesh.  About an hour after getting home, everyone was back to normal. Or as normal as it gets around here. 

We can't say thanks enough for the support for the auction. Miss Marg says she is getting lots of donations. We put up the chip in (though it appears to not be updating - mom will have to get on that and we wish her good luck with her general lack of technical skills MOL). If you are baffled by that but want to help, let us know.

Random Fridays.....

About the flashy box. Mom knows she used it last Friday to post our weekend editions. She had the picture of Junior on the camera. But, someone had yakked on her chair so she was sitting on the sofa with the laptop on the coffee table. She got the picture loaded and eventually put the laptop back in its case. But she thinks she may have left the flashy box on the coffee table. And it has a stringy attached to it for people to slip over their wrists. And..... still no sign of it. And mom says she refuses to pay another $100 for another camera (she just got this one this summer after the other one died) when the minute she does the old one will show up. So instead she went to Wally's World and bought a cheapy. rats.......

Opal's paw: sometimes after having in IV, there will be some swelling. Only, if it is fluids, the swelling will go down. Opal's front paw kept getting bigger and BIGGER. So mom took her BACK to the v-e-t. She has cellulitis (infection of the skin and underlying tissues). So now she is on a different aunty-biotics. Opal is still running around and being active and eating and everything but man does it look uncomfortable (it is about 3x the size it should be). Mom and Opal saw the same v-e-t from Thursday night/Friday morning and she was very impressed about how much better Opal looked and felt. Just...healthier. :)

Tim got whapped....again. He has 3 scratched down his poor nose. (we would show you, but still no sign of the flashy box) Mom suspected that Cleo might have whapped him. He likes to go in the bathroom on the hunt for kitten food and Cleo has been a little more possessive of the kittens since last weekend. Mom heard some name calling and some banging the other night. And about 2 hours later saw the new scratches on Tim. Plus mom saw Cleo take a swing at him last night too. Gotta love a boy who can't be distracted from a possible treat by a ticked off momma cat. :)

Gin and Moonshine are headed back to Petco. There was another adoption. So now there is a bigger kitten (named Toby) and a little kitten (named Belle). Mom put them together on Wednesday but this weekend will be the first chance she has to take Gin and Shine back up there. The goal is to keep the cages separate and hopefully that will help to keep our kitts a little calmer. They have been great at the house and mom knows they will be a great addition to a family out there.

Mom tested NEGATIVE!!!

If you guys follow Miss Chrystal, you have already met the family above (and if you haven't, for pete's sake head over there  asap).  Mom has said she will foster the family and get them into rescue here....but we gotta GET them here....  SO - do you (or someone you know) live in Indiana or Illinois (near route 70) and want to spend a few hours with the cute??? Email us or Miss Chrystal.....

Oh, and like Miss Chrystal didn't have enough going on, she live trapped some kittens that her Older Daughter had seen. Caught one.....then another.....then finally the third - only this little boy has some injuries and a broken leg and needed surgery. There is a chip-in set up to help pay for his medical needs.

Duke and Luke update: mom thinks she knows EXACTLY what the neighbor-chick was thinking bringing the kittens home...cause she looked a little surprised when mom said to take them back inside and find a better alternative. (and NO that alternative is NOT US!!!) One more person who wants a pat on the back for "rescuing" without having a clue what they are doing - and expecting the rest of us to pick up the slack.

'Nuff said....  (and Connie - thanks for the pillow - the head banging is much more comfortable that way). The boys are doing much better.....they are purring when they see mom (the bringer of kibble) and letting her pet them. She was mumbling something about seeing if we can socialize them more this weekend. uh oh....

After 5 days, Bourbon MAY finally be getting tired....but he loves that stringie.

He and Gin were dragging it up and down the hall last night.

Somehow that doesn't look comfortable.....yet mom finds them in there often.

Some of the feathers haven't survived intial testing....mom so far has counted about 8 around the living room.

The kittens were still playing with everything a while later, but the adults had taken off for separate corners to sleep off the intoxicating fumes of the nip......

Quick Amaretto update: she isn't eating much, but still walking around some when mom lets her out. Mom has taken to syringe feeding her KMR and NutriCal in the hopes that it will help some. At least we know she is getting something into her. Mom did get more worried and just for her peace of mind took her to the v-e-t for a quick check (under the term better safe than sorry). It appears the Clavamox is working as the vet checked all the abscesses (even the liver ones - mom likes it when the vets are curious cause they check things but don't charge her) and all of them appear to be smaller. But, Amaretto is anemic and we aren't sure what to do about that. They did get a preliminary report from the lab - something is growing. Really - they typed up a report and faxed it for that??? Mom hopes they can be more definitive today. Oh- and someone asked if the abscesses were lanced - they were on Friday night at the vet and left open so mom can clean them. That being said, the vet last night said that it may required divine intervention in this case - Amaretto is just so tiny. We appreciate your prayers and purrs - please keep sending them!!

In other news, we just heard that K and Alex both ran for the Bridge. We have been purring for them and their families for a while and we have some serious leaky eyes here. We are sending our purrs for them and know that both K and Alex are healthy and running free now.

Mom put Doc on a leash.....

The kid had a lemonade stand on Friday and part of the proceeds went to buy supplies for the shelter. Mom went over and took Doc. Cause he wiggles, she put a harness and leash on him. He didn't seem to mind and actually had a great time outside.

And then Sunday, Mom took Doc, Whiskey and Gin to Petco. Doc got bored and LAUNCHED himself at baby gate....and got over (which he hasn't done since at home - goofy boy). Great - so much for that. Mom put him back in and yet once he figured it out, it was all over, so he got to wear the harness and leash at Petco as well.
