Random Fridays....

A couple of adoption updates:

Opal is doing well. The young couple that adopted her promised to make sure their dog (a 9 year old Samoyed named Angel) kept her distance until Opal was sure about everything. We got an update the other day and it sounds like everything is going well.....

Yep - if you look close, that would be Miss Opal curled up sleeping next to Angel. They are still going to crate Angel during the day to be safe, but it sounds like everything is great for Opal. And a quick turn around at Petco as well. :)

And....we got an update on Milano (now Elinor) and Chex (now Theodor). They are doing great as well and keep their new boy VERY busy.
Say it with us people: awwwwww

Our local rescue where mom volunteers (shouldn't we say where WE volunteer...for heaven sake, we do all the work while she isn't here), is having their kitten shower tomorrow.  Colony Cats will have adoptions and snacks and will be accepting donations.

And finally, check out this bloodhound in the news: Chillicothe OH got a new bloodhound to help track people  :)

Have a great weekend. We got the hots, so Mo and Spud will spend most of it sleeping on the floor registers.

Thankful Thursday....

We are still purring for everyone in Oklahoma..... If you want to help, World Vets is helping with the animals and you can always support the Red Cross

And, mom is BURIED at work after being off - she is skimming her reader, but we aren't able to comment much - hopefully we can whap her into shape over the weekend.

Mom took Monday off from the green paper job to get stuff done around here and relax. Good thing too......

She got a call in the morning from a former adopter. Seems that a kitten that was adopted last December is not using the litter box. They had her vet checked and it isn't medical. They talked about things and seems that she doesn't like the dog. Or like the kids.  Which makes us wonder about the activity level in the house and how they did introductions (this girl was about 10 weeks old when she was adopted).

Then as they talked about what was going on around the house, the lady mentioned that the kitten had a complete medical workup.....when she was taken in to be front declawed.  ARGH!!!!

Anyhow, we are thankful today that the adoption contract for the rescue includes a "bring them back" clause - and that the lady did the right thing and called mom.

Yep - that is Opal (from last fall - Cleo's kittens that came to us from Miss Chrystal). So far she is doing ok. Spud hissed at her (of course, so did Triscuit). But she is back with us and she is safe and we will make it work for her. Opal did pretty well around the house for her first night on Monday. She kind of treats Triscuit like a toy (which results in some hissing from Triscuit) but within a couple of hours was out and wandering the condo.

Cookie was adopted and went home on Tuesday. So, Opal went up to Petco last night and will hopefully find her NEW home quickly.

Update: yep - Opal IS Emma's sister. Mom almost fell over when she saw Opal cause she is SO much bigger than Emma was when Emma went home. As for declawing, we do ask on our applications and will talk to people about it. While it isn't an automatic reason to deny, we will do it if we a bad feeling about people in addition to that (Uncle Bill was one of these). In this case, they didn't put that on the application and the lady said she only did it after Opal "destroyed her leather sofa". (and now mom is going to go off and mumble more bad werds)

Random Fridays.....

About the flashy box. Mom knows she used it last Friday to post our weekend editions. She had the picture of Junior on the camera. But, someone had yakked on her chair so she was sitting on the sofa with the laptop on the coffee table. She got the picture loaded and eventually put the laptop back in its case. But she thinks she may have left the flashy box on the coffee table. And it has a stringy attached to it for people to slip over their wrists. And..... still no sign of it. And mom says she refuses to pay another $100 for another camera (she just got this one this summer after the other one died) when the minute she does the old one will show up. So instead she went to Wally's World and bought a cheapy. rats.......

Opal's paw: sometimes after having in IV, there will be some swelling. Only, if it is fluids, the swelling will go down. Opal's front paw kept getting bigger and BIGGER. So mom took her BACK to the v-e-t. She has cellulitis (infection of the skin and underlying tissues). So now she is on a different aunty-biotics. Opal is still running around and being active and eating and everything but man does it look uncomfortable (it is about 3x the size it should be). Mom and Opal saw the same v-e-t from Thursday night/Friday morning and she was very impressed about how much better Opal looked and felt. Just...healthier. :)

Tim got whapped....again. He has 3 scratched down his poor nose. (we would show you, but still no sign of the flashy box) Mom suspected that Cleo might have whapped him. He likes to go in the bathroom on the hunt for kitten food and Cleo has been a little more possessive of the kittens since last weekend. Mom heard some name calling and some banging the other night. And about 2 hours later saw the new scratches on Tim. Plus mom saw Cleo take a swing at him last night too. Gotta love a boy who can't be distracted from a possible treat by a ticked off momma cat. :)

Gin and Moonshine are headed back to Petco. There was another adoption. So now there is a bigger kitten (named Toby) and a little kitten (named Belle). Mom put them together on Wednesday but this weekend will be the first chance she has to take Gin and Shine back up there. The goal is to keep the cages separate and hopefully that will help to keep our kitts a little calmer. They have been great at the house and mom knows they will be a great addition to a family out there.

that is Gin in the back looking at the camera and Shine between Ivy and Tommy

Some comments from the week (we love reading your comments BTW):
Brian (11/5/12): What a day! We are all sending purrs to Grandma and the little Germ kitties.
This one cracked us up....we know it was a typo, but considering the kitts were sick, it was pretty funny.

Priscilla (11/7/12): What? No rooster sounds?
Nope - no roosters here....we are very sure the condo association would find that a violation. MOL

We hope you all have a great weekend. No transports and no Sparty football this weekend. Mom said something about the sucky beast and laundry though. And maybe a a few naps. We can get into that last part - it is supposed to be nice here on Caturday so maybe we can bribe her to crack a window for some whiffies.

What is in a name????

Miss Chrystal has picked out the names from "the hat" and has named the puppies (go check them out on her blog) and now the crew here has names as well:

Lana was the winner and the kittens are after gemstones.

Cleo (short for Cleopatra)

baby jail....we spent some time in here Sunday

Emma (short for Emerald)

Opal

Kyan (for kyanite)

Cory (for corundum)

Mom couldn't get the boys to cooperate for their beauty shots, and now that she looks at them again, she thinks she took 2 pics of Cory. Kyan doesn't have the stripe of white down his face (he is the guy standing up in the baby jail picture).
