Happy Birthday Chanel

OK....it was yesterday. Mom got sidetracked. It happens.

Anyhow, happy 6th Birthday to our resident strange tuxedo girl (and her sister Cupcake who lives with our friend Miss Julie).

A friend was over the other evenjng and managed to get pictures of Chanel on the cat ladder in her favorite positions. Mom hasn't been successful since Chanel moves if mom gets close.

How is that comfortable

They say cats are liquid, but mom has to wonder if Chanel is boneless

Sleeping spots

Everyone here has a spot or two they lay claim to during the day.

Ivy can generally be found under the side table by one of the floor vents. After watching her do this consistantly for a while, mom put a bed under there for her.

Junior likes this bed between the sofa and the coffee table. He can sometimes be found in one of the cat tree cubbies, but this seems to be his spot for now.

Daiquiri will sometimes sleep in the living room but can most often be found on the bed.

Chanel has claimed the taco truck. Either or it or in it, that seems to be her spot. She will occasionally sleep under mom's desk but not often since mom moves around a lot.

Goldfish can either be found on one particular level of the cat ladder or in the round Sleepypod.

Adopted

Stripes went back to the shelter on Minday and was adopted Monday night. We wish her and her new family lots of love.

Yeti is being adopted this afternoon. Hard to believe he was with us just over 2 weeks but his new mom is going to be very lucky to get such a great kitten.

No idea when we will get more kittens but with the weirdly mild winter here we suspect it won't be long.

2 kittens

Yeti was neutered on Monday and is up on the website ready to go. Mom isn't sure what sort of drugs he got though cause he came back and he was wound up. All over the place all night. So of course he slept most of Tuesday morning waking up mostly to yell at mom that the food dish was empty. He is going to give his forever family a run for their money.

Good thing he's cute

Stripes is back for another week too. She had a fever and is on meds. Not that she acts sick or anything.

Mom was planning to keep them separate but Yeti is fast and got in the foster room over the weekend. So slow introductions over a couple of days and she was out all day Tuesday. They don't really play together or snuggle. They will chase each other occasionally but they are pretty independent. Stripes does seem very chatty though...she has a cute chirp she does all the time, even when running.

Stripes goes back to the shelter on Monday. Yeti will go to the partner store this week. Then just clean the foster room and wait to reload. (Mom is hoping for little ones)

Kitten update

The girls are doing much better and their meds are done in a couple of days. Stripes has some definite opinions about the permanent residents here. While the foster room door is open, she isn't coming out much. She will wander out for a few minutes but retreats.

Tortuga is out most of the day. She would do great in an active family cause she is very bored here and it makes her a little needy and whiny. She did settle down some on Saturday for a nap.

Mom will be reaching out to the shelter to see when they have available space for them to go back.

Achoo

Kitten colds aren't uncommon. Shelters do their very best but it's stressful and add on spay surgery and kittens can get sick.

For the next couple of weeks we are fostering a couple of girls for the shelter as they get over colds. They are sisters and about 3 months old.

Tortuga
She is very bold and has
already decided she wants out
of the foster room. She loves people
and is soft and cuddly when she
isn't running around.

Stripes
She is a little more unsure about
being here but mom can pick her up
and cuddle her and she purrs right away.

They found the basket

Keep in mind that the shelter names the kittens we get so mom is taking no responsibility for naming a tabby kitten Stripes. Haha

Home

Mom drove the girls to their forever home this weekend. Mom won't do it for everyone but special people will get it.

Several years ago Dee about a tiny tortie from us named Calais who became Isadora (Izzy). Then she became Aunt Dee to Chanel and Cupcake.

Izzy passed away in December and Dee kept seeing pictures of the girls and applied to adopt them.

So now the girls are together forever with a great mom and new kitty brother. Initial supervised introductions went well. Frances got a little floofy but Dusty was fine with it. Felicity has been just curious.

Names to be determined.

This is Dusty:

A few more days

Mom has enjoyed having Frances and Felicity here. They are mostly good kittens. Mom wishes they would stay off her desk and computer but it could be worse.

Mom leaves Friday to deliver the girls to their new mom and kitty brother.

Keeping warm

Mom bought covers for our floor vents to direct the heat out rather than just up. Especially the one vent that is under an end table.

Chanel and Ivy have liked sleeping by that vent before. With the heat now pointing right at them, it's even more popular. Mom finally gave up and out a bed under the table.

Weekend report

The girls did really well after surgery. Like most kittens they had no idea and were back to normal by the next day.

Since they are going to a friend, mom decided to leave them loose in the house 24/7 starting Friday. (They go home on 2/3 per the current olan) They've been out during the day but not at night. No idea where they slept Friday night but Frances discovered the bed early Sunday morning.

They are very sweet girls and have been great to have here. They are curious but respectful of the permanent residents so that's been very nice.

That was quick....sort of

Well the girls are off for their spay surgery today. They have been a joy....mostly since they seem to think that they are VERY helpful during the day when mom is working. She can sometimes distract them, but has also had to restart the computer a couple of times.

Frances sleeping ON the air lock

Ummm. No we not doing anything

Sleepy Felicity

Double trouble

Now.....normally with the shelter they stay after surgery and go up for adoption. But not these two. They will come back for a couple of weeks before they go home. Yes - they have been adopted together but a special friend. We will give more details after everything in finalized but mom is pretty excited.

AND NO THEY ARE NOT STAYING HERE

First kittens of 2023

Well we were expecting it to take longer, but the shelter reached out to see if we would take a pair of kittens who just need to gain weight for surgery. Not sure their background but they are super sweet and people friendly.

Felicity

Frances

Mom is going to have to recheck the doors in the foster room. Frances figured out how to escape on day two. Fortunately they are vaccinated so no worries there.

They are pretty respectful of everyone here.

But they are still learning to respect moms desk space so that's been a challenge.

But it certainly isn't a bad way to spend a chilly weekend with napping kittens.

Slow time of the year

But.....we got to do some kitten sitting this weekend. Just a couple of days but it was fun to have some small cuteness in the house.

Candy is a cute little tortie. She is probably 5ish weeks old and full of attitude. Mom says her tortie card is gold plated. But she quickly climbed into moms lap for napping.

This is Clover. He's probably just over 8 weeks old. He was super lovey....if mom sat down he was looking for attention.

They aren't ready for adoption quite yet. So their foster mom gets to enjoy them for a while longer.

2022 in review

January started off with Mike available for adoption, Chickpea still breathing weird and Thad and Titus here to friendly up before getting neutered and adopted.

February brought a notice of big changes. Despite leaving the rescue, Mike and Chickpea stayed with us.

March sucked. Baloo left us after a valiant fight with FIP.

April brought us the discovery that Chickpea had a sizeable polyp at the back of her throat. Surgery was done, she was SO much better and went to the Petsmart store and quickly adopted. Mom got a little geeky about colors of torbies. And we got a set of 4 boys to foster from the shelter where mom has volunteered for a while. Mike had an adventure at the local park as well.

May had us letting the tuxedo boys meeting Mike and moving into the foster room with her since some cat (most likely Daiquiri) breaking a tespo panel. Mike was fine with the kittens and they quickly figured her out as well. The boys went back to the shelter for neuter and were quickly adopted. We then got a group of kittens from the rescue (different group) and they were named after cities in Arizona. Mom also traveled to visit family and celebrate the kid graduating from high school.

June found the Arizona kittens escaping from the panels in the foster room and Mike making all the noises about her discontent. Fortunately she got over is quickly and they all made friends. And then of course they escaped the foster room. Haha

July had Mike getting professional pictures taken and attending an adoption event at a yoga studio. We also added fosters Laredo, Garibaldi and Harvey who all showed up at the pet store during an adoption event.

August was exciting for adoptions. The Arizona kittens were quickly adopted. A tuxedo girl named Blueberry joined us for a break from the store and Harvey went there to be adopted. So we had Mike, Laredo and a friend for him to play with and Garibaldi and Blueberry. Mike turned a year old. Hard to believe. And after going back to the store, Garibaldi and Blueberry were adopted.

September brought more change. The small rescue mom started with in the spring decided they should part ways. Mike never was part of the rescue officially so she stayed with us. The foster room got a redo and deep clean with a floor cover and new cabinets. But the shelter is keeping us supplied in kittens and we took a group of girls from them. The nice part with the shelter is they have a building and vet on site. But we don't get to name our own kittens. Dang it. haha

October brought fosters Ash (an older juvenile on meds for a cold) and Tiffany, Sam and Norman after that who needed time to get older and ready for surgery. Those there were kind of a hot mess but thankfully the cute made up for it.

And......MIKE GOT ADOPTED!!!! We get occasional updates and she is doing great with her new mom and dad.

November was mostly dealing with snot and medicating the littles. They were super sweet and easy so that was great. They did go back and were adopted pretty quickly.

December just had one foster named Novella who just needed a couple of weeks on medication for a cold and then she went back and was adopted the same night.

With all the changes it was a slightly slower year of fostering: we have 27 kittens total, 9 girls, 18 boys.  For total reference, we have been fostering for 16 years. 417 cats and kittens total. Pretty amazing. (210 female (22 momma cats)/207 male)

We hope you had a safe and healthy 2022. We know there have been some losses in our cat blogger family. It is never easy and we wish you all lots of purrs. We wish you a joyous and happy 2023.

We haven't done a great job of blogging on a regular basis and hope to get more on a regular schedule. Love and purrs to all of you.
