If you missed episode 1 - click here

Last week, Cassis and Daiquiri took it upon themselves to inspect and attempt to destroy the gingerbread house. Due to decent construction duct tape, their efforts were thwarted.

it would appear they have brought in reinforcements this time

but it looks like the new guy is taking a break already

supervisor cat is appalled by their behavior

supervisor cat says: must be this high to work on the windows

assistant cat lays down on the job
while supervisor cat checks the door frame strength

if you want something done right, do it yourself

So far it looks like house 2, homewrecks 0. Stay tuned.

weekend report

Seems like Mother Nature decided it should be winter in the midwest again. It got cold again and snowed a little bit. Though not that extreme bitter cold.

Mom got the call on Friday about the meds for Dandelion. After some pharmacy issues, mom picked them up on Saturday afternoon. It is an anti-viral that he will be on for 30 days. Hopefully this will fix his snot problem and we can move on to getting him adopted.

Otherwise it was a quiet weekend around here.

Random Fridays

but...she won't share....

Liberty and Freedom are still at the store. Last week one of the volunteers brought a hammock in to put in their cage. It has been occupied ever since. MOL When they were first here and in the tower, there was a hammock and Freedom loved it, so we really shouldn't be surprised. One of the assistant managers at the store said that when it was put in their cage on Saturday, Freedom spent most of the day in it and would NOT let Liberty join her. Since then, they trade back and forth and will both climb in there together as well. They are getting a little stir crazy in that cage and Freedom has attempted to get out a number of times. We've had a couple of applications, but both have imploded for different reasons. Hopefully we can get them adopted into a forever home very soon.

Some comments about our Tuesday post on fostering and supporting rescues:
- If you didn't see it, Summer over at Sparklecat did a post featuring our friend Miss Connie from Tails from the Foster Kittens and mom.
- Eastside Cats mentioned that they collect old towels and blankets for their rescue.
- Eileen mentioned that she donates and also encourages spay/neuter.
- Momma Cat and Bear said they didn't think they could foster since they would fall in love with every foster cat/kitten. We hear that a lot - in fact it may be the most asked question - how do we not keep them all? The simple facts are these: you HAVE to know your limit. And if you keep them, then you can't help that next one that will need you. Raise them right and help them move into homes of their own where they are the center of attention and that clears your space to help the next one in need.

Have a great weekend!!

foster room

Mom spent last weekend cleaning and moving some stuff around in the foster room to get it ready for "kitten season" this year. Dandelion hasn't been interested in the room at all, but apparently mom being in there changed his mind and he spent some time over the rest of the weekend laying by the door trying to figure out what is on the other side. Cassis was keeping him company....mostly.

Speaking of Cassis, she didn't get spayed on Monday. She was a little sneezy over the weekend and mom didn't feel like running Cass to the clinic just to be told they wouldn't spay her. She has been rescheduled for the first part of February.
(with this particular clinic, they won't do surgery for ANY little thing that they think is wrong....and since we live on one side of town and mom works over on the other side of town, it is a pain to get a kitten to the clinic and then have to figure out how to get them home again)

Change a Pet's Life Day

The importance of fostering

Cats die every day in shelters due to over population, illness or behavior issues. A good foster program allows these animals to get out of the shelter system and into a home environment where they can get well or their behavior can be monitored and modified.

The most vulnerable of that population is kittens. Bottle babies (unweaned kittens that come in with no mom) are the most at risk followed by kittens with no moms that are too young to be vaccinated. But even kittens with their moms are at risk from exposure to illness.
Bug - our first (and only) bottle baby

So, what can you do??

Well, if you have a space away from your pets, consider fostering for a local rescue.
our foster room - it used to be the (unused) dining room

If you can't do that, check their website for a donation list - kittens eat like there is no tomorrow and rescues go through LOTS of food and litter.

Share their posts on facebook and twitter....good attention is always welcome.

Every little effort from all of us will make a difference....

weekend report

Mom did some work around the house on Saturday and then watched basketball. We spent most of the weekend doing this....  It was warmer this weekend but overcast, so no sun puddles.

Sunday was an adoption event and mom took Cassis. Cass is at the spay clinic today and will most likely go up to the adoption center on Wednesday.

Random Fridays

Still no news from the v-e-t about meds for Dandelion. Mom is MORE than a little frustrated. She did some research on her own and found some information but not much and she is sure that is slowing everything down. Hopefully soon.....mom says having had a bad cold herself, she has a new level of sympathy for our orange foster boy.
though his life doesn't look too hard
that is his most favorite place to sleep behind the cat ladder
and yep - Cassis is right behind him
~~~~~~~
Sometimes the best toys are the cheapest ones. There are a couple of empty toilet paper rolls around the house and the other night Cassis found one and was playing with it. Dandelion just layed on the floor and watched her play.
Cassis is scheduled for her spay surgery on Monday and then will go up to the adoption center. She is a sweet girl and considering the time of the year, the rescue doesn't have too many little kittens, so we suspect she will go quickly. Mom has an adoption event on Sunday afternoon and will take Cassis along to that as well. We suspect the big orange kitten is going to miss having her to play with.
We wish you a safe, warm and relaxed weekend.
Mom still has our gingerbread house from 2015 in the living room. The castle is in the foster room and will probably stay there. After this adventure, we aren't too sure how long the gingerbread house is going to survive....though mom plans to leave it out since someone is usually sleeping inside it.
roof inspectors
doesn't look sturdy, does it?
inspector's boss lady says - you are doing it wrong
ok kid - get outta there
It is amazing how well this has held up over time. Of course, with the foster room, there aren't marauding kittens that cause more destruction than we do around here.
treat review #ChewyInfluencer
This month mom said we could try some treats. These are from Weruva and all all chick-hen. That's it - nothing else. Woohoo!!!
Daiquiri would like mom to hurry the heck up and get the container open. And honestly, that would be mom's only complaint...that container was IMPOSSIBLE to get open. She ended up spending a few minutes prying it off with a kitchen knife and put them in a different container. She likes the idea of the canister, but that lid was WAY too tight....
Tommy almost took off one of mom's fingers
Dandelion gets in on the act
Cassis wasn't sure what it was. She sniffed it a few times....
Then knocked it on the floor and chased it around. Before she could eat it, Mo grabbed it and it was gone. Mom put Cassis up on her chair and gave her another piece - which she also played with....until it hit the floor and Daiquiri ate it. Poor baby....  MOL
Ivy never showed up for treat time for this one....so that means we give it 6 paws up. Ivy didn't try and Cass never got a chance.
Editors note: Thanks to Chewy.com for giving us these treats free of charge for our opinion. Every opinion given here is our own regardless of the product. We are a member of the Chewy Influencer Blogger Group but that does not affect our honest opinions.
weekend report
We got a little ice here this weekend so mom stayed in and did some chores around the house. Per normal, we stayed out of her way and napped.
While she was moving stuff around, she found a box that was closed. She opened it up and found this strawberry house that she had bought at an auction to support Paws to People which is a non profit started by our friends at the White Dog Army.
It was a little smaller than mom would have expected, but it appears to be perfectly Mozart sized. He has been in there pretty much non stop since Saturday.
Several others have tried to get inside, but other than Cassis, no one else really fits. We suspect Mo is probably pretty thrilled to have a house ALL his own.
random Fridays
Several people have mentioned Daiquiri's stripe down her back. We call it her racing stripe. This isn't a great picture, but it does run along her spine to her hips and then takes a 90 degree turn to her left.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Mom is still working on a snot solution for Dandelion. She has read some articles about a new anti viral treatment and is working with the vet on the dosage and pricing. Paws crossed....
~~~~~~~~~~~~
We know the weather has been weird all over and it is supposed to get nasty here tonight. Stay safe and warm, keep your pets indoors and check on your neighbors.
Kiss a Ginger Day
We have a ginger cat who lives here.....but there will be NO kissing Junior....
However, we have had some adorable gingers in the past year that were VERY kissable.
two of the flower kittens were gingers
Barney and Fanta from Best Friends
3 of the 6 tree kittens (the boys) were gingers
Hey - did we tell you about Alder?? He was fostered by another volunteer when he went to the adoption center and then got a cold. Well....Miss K fell in love and adopted him. She and mom are friends on facebook so mom gets to see him (now Jojo) from time to time. Miss K fosters and Jojo is helping to raise foster kittens with her. aww.....
Monroe
Waffles the rescue
And hey - speaking of Waffles the rescue....mom saw a post on Colony Cats facebook page from the end of December from the family that adopted him and he is doing great!!! Woohoo!!!
