Weekend report

 Though let's be honest, weekends around here are kind of like weekdays except mom spends less time on the computer.

Huzzah is very sweet. She's also started to discover toys as well. She still isn't too sure about those cats on the other side of the foster room door however. We will know more about her "cat" abilities once she is spayed and separated from the kittens.

Yahoo is a super sweet boy. Still the only kitten that purrs for mom. That mohawk appears to be a permanent fixture.

Hurray is probably the shyest of the three kittens. She is also technically a ninja tabby....she actually has very faint stripes. She does warm up though and loves to sit on a shoulder.

Yippee is still the princess. She's also kind of bitey which is not so much fun. 

They are scheduled for spay/neuter surgery on Nov 6th. That will make the kittens about 10 weeks old. It's certainly bern fun to watch them grow up. And we still have a little time with them. 

They play hard

 Mom is still working from home and sits right outside the foster room. She can hear them banging around all the time. 

We always like to try to report who the brains of the operation might be....in this group probably Hurray. Those two gray kittens have the brains of a rutabaga.

The video is fun, but if you look closely, you can also see Hurray's ninja tabby stripes.

Goldfish's is today - Happy 2nd Gotcha Day.

Life here wouldn't be the same without them. Love you girls.

 They are now almost 6 weeks old. They are getting very playful and rowdy.

We got mail

 Apparently the Tooth Fairy heard that Daiquiri and Ivy lost some teeth and sent them a present. 

How cute are those??? Thanks Miss Tooth Fairy (you know who you are....LOL)

The girls are doing well. Ivy came home with a little bit of a cold but nothing serious. Daiq is enjoying the canned food. 

Kittens are doing well. There was a bang yesterday afternoon and turns out it was Huzzah banging on the glass doors trying to get to a squirrel on our balcony.

 Hitting all the milestones: eating kitten food, using the litter box, playing with everything.

They are super cute. They've also hit the stage where people need to become more of an influence, so mom will be spending more time in the room with them.

Random Fridays

Daiquiri and Ivy are feeling better. Eating normally already. Considering how many teeth try both lost, this is probably an improvement over pre surgery.

The kittens are all doing well. Using the litter box and eating dry and canned food. Mom split the foster room to keep them out of the big boxes but will likely take the barrier down this weekend. It fun listening to them get more mobile (though not more graceful) and find toys.

Oh how I would love to not post one of these some year. But until that happens, please join me and other bloggers bringing attention to those animals that are still in shelters waiting for their forever homes. 

The Helen Woodward Animal Center started this movement to bring awareness to those animals that spend too long in shelters or are euthanized every year simply due to lack of adoptive homes. While nationwide annual euthizations for space are decreasing, the number is still too high. Lack of space is no reason for an animal to lose its life.

This year I want to spotlight one of the long term adoptable cats at Colony Cats where I volunteer. Colony Cats is a no kill limited admission shelter that takes also does a lot of work in the community doing Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). That means sometimes we take in cats that are harder to place. This doesn't mean they don't deserve a forever home, but it does mean that it can take longer for them to find the RIGHT home. 

Ares is one of those cats. He came into the shelter February 2018. He was found as a stray and neutered as part of our TNR program which is why he has an ear tip. We think he is about 7 years old but we have no idea how long he was out on the streets or what he went through to survive. He is a big tom cat that needs a special person who will be willing to let Ares be Ares. He is fine in our adoption center with the other cats. But he had been adopted once and developed a weird habit of stalking the people in the home. He went through "boot camp" with the rescue director and seems to be doing better. 

Ares needs a home with experienced people and no kids. Maybe another cat. Maybe a dog that will respect his space. But if that never happens, the rescue stands by him. He will have a home with the rescue for however long he needs.

Dentals

 Both Ivy and Daiquiri needed dentals. With the pandemic it was postponed a couple of times but they both went yesterday. 

Mom dropped them off at 7am and they got home about 6:30pm. They were both very drunk. Chanel was not pleased. 

Both lost some teeth: Ivy 7, Daquiri 8. And Daiquiri's cleaning was more extensive. Hopefully we are good for a while and they will be feeling better in no time.

Weekend report

 It's finally fall here. Open windows and no more of the hots. Yay!!

Mom rearranged the foster room a little. Half is blocked off to keep the kittens out of the big litter boxes. Those have clumping litter and kittens like to try to eat everything which is a bad combination. They have their own box which Hurray used in the first hour. Genius!! Poor Huzzah is chirping up a storm trying to keep the kittens in one location.

Daiquiri and Ivy both go tomorrow for dental cleanings. Based on what we've been told at their last wellness check up, they are both probably going to lose some teeth. But Daiq has been super grumpy lately so hopefully this will help her feel better.

Happy kitten update

 Momma cat was taken yesterday for the important test: and she is negative for FIV and FeLV.

The kittens are all over a month old and looking great. They are all over a pound and their teeth have started just coming in now. Pretty soon they will be ready to try out a litter box and kitten food. Mom is trying to determine how to reconfigure the playpen walls to keep them out of their momma's stuff.

They are getting more active and funnier to watch every day.

 The fuzzy one kills us. They are starting to get a little more active and testing their legs. There was a couple of baby yells yesterday when 2 of them got into a wrestling match. 

News

 The boys headed off yesterday to a partner store to find their forever homes. The rescue is pretty crowded right now with kittens their age so when a spot opened up, mom jumped on it. They will hopefully get adopted fairly quickly since they are young and have great personalities. They need to get out of here anyhow as they are beginning to drive the momma cat a little nuts....she is NOT happy knowing they are out here trying to get in there.

 

In other news, Juneau was adopted and went home on Saturday. The couple have no kids but a 6 year old girl cat and a couple of small dogs. They wanted a sassy black cat. Mom got to talk to them and gave them fair warning that Juneau is kind of a jump-first-ask-questions-later kind of girl and they were pretty excited.

names

 A friend suggested "happy" names for a group of kittens and mom thought it was a little funny. The big chonky kitten is a boy, the other two are girls. Meet: Huzzah (momma cat), Hooray (black female), Yippee (gray female), Yahoo (gray male).

 Huzzah put the kittens into the drawer on Sunday. Monday morning mom took the drawer out of the cabinet and put it in the play pen. Thankfully Huzzah left it there and mom was able to watch every one on the camera. When mom got up Tuesday morning the drawer was flipped over and the kittens were in the pen with Huzzah. Mom thinks something scared Huzzah on Sunday morning and she has since settled in here and seems fine.
