Not what we planned....

Mom got an email about a week ago from.... Bug's mom!!! Not a Bug update though - they have a momma cat and kittens and needed some help and suggestions.

Mom looked back at the blog and realized not all of you may know about Bug. She was found Labor Day 2010 and was mom's first (and really only) bottle baby. That is the tiny white kitten you saw yesterday. She is now a year and a half old. Her mom says she isn't too wild about new people but LOVES her daddy. You can read more about her here.  Mom got to scratch her ears and love on her a little. She has grown into quite the big girl!! And she is a biter too..... some people's kids (wait - that would be our fault - oh well).

But, the call was really about the mom and kittens. The goal was to leave the kittens with mom and keep an eye on them. But, the kittens were getting bigger and the kids were getting worried. Mom agreed to help them with the kittens and the goal was to trap the mom, give her time in a crate with the kittens until they were weaned and then spay/release mom.

Mom ended up taking the kittens and the trap was set. And we caught.....a male orange tabby. Took him to be neutered (one more stop on mom's adventure Tuesday). The family agreed to keep the trap and try again. As of this morning, they have 2 traps and caught: a raccoon and another orange male tabby. That momma cat is being pesky.

So, let's do a head count: there is us. Wendy and the kittens in the bathroom. Silver running around (mom gave up on the crate - it was an issue of contagiousness but mom figured that ship had already sailed and Silver was screaming in the crate). And now this:

the bigger one is the girl (Annie), the smaller her brother (Wild Bill)

Bug's new family doesn't live that close to us, but don't they look suspiciously like a certain tiny white baby picture from yesterday??? Anyhow, mom guess them to be about 3 weeks old. And yes....this means we have bottle babies unless that momma cat gets her furry butt in a trap (please please let her get in the trap). Oh, and mom says don't do the math and get the total number - it might make her look even more crazy than she really is. :)

wacky week.....

Didn't mean to panic anybody yesterday..... we are all fine. And so are the kittens.... mostly. :) Mom ended up taking an emergency "vacation" day yesterday to get it all together.

Before we get to that, could you please go visit Finn & Tucker? They are holding a comment-a-thon to support Best Friend's Back in Black 2 event!!!

Silver was not acting right was had gotten snotty. Mom got the rescue vet to check her and she is sick. So, now she is crated and taking meds. And she is NOT happy about it. However, so long as she continues to eat, she should be fine in about a week....

Wendy and the kittens are doing ok. And we now have a list of who is who. Mom had the shelter vet check out Arby (male black/white) and BK (tiny male tabby). Arby is now on meds as his eye swelled up. BK is about half the size of his siblings. The goal is to give Wendy some time to herself to gain some weight and monitor BK to make sure he is gaining weight....Mom tried that last night.... yeah, she doesn't so much like other cats. Not sure how this is going to work. Mom said something about leaving the shower door open to give her a place to escape.

We don't want to this to get too long.....so we will leave you with this picture as a teaser for mom's other adventure:

Does this kitty look familiar????

Wacky weekend update...

First from yesterday, Marg asked about Swizzle's kittens - Martini and Mojito were the only two that tested negative for FeLV. Martini was adopted last fall. Mojito was as well but about a month ago our friend Miss Beckie found a post on craigslist trying to rehome a kitten - which is a violation of their contract. So, Mojito was picked up and readopted about 2 weeks later.

And on to our wacky weekend......

Marble is at Petco. There was an open cage at another store, so mom moved a cat there and took Marble over to the adoption event and she stayed. Silver came back home with her since she isn't spayed yet. The non-technical scale they use for treats said she weighs about 1.75 pounds. :)  Hopefully she will make weight in the next week or so. Marble was pretty chatty most of the morning.

The ees aren't doing so great. Mom took them to the adoption center on Saturday and the rescue lady gave them fluids. Miss Beckie is a people nurse but she is home a little more and offered to take them back to make sure they get a little more medical attention. We aren't sure what is up with them, but we know every effort will be made to keep them healthy.

The condo came down - no reason to leave it up since Silver won't stay in there anyhow. MOL

Wendy and the kittens aren't as snotty, but they still have the runs. Mom is gonna email the shelter today and see what is going on.

Mom says there are a few things in the work this week, so we shall see what happens. :)

oh for the love of......

Mom took Wendy to the shelter on Tuesday cause she and one kitten were snotty. Wendy is still...VERY snotty. We can hear her breathing under the door.....  And mom says she is pretty evil about taking the clavamox. There is talk about giving her a stronger drug, but mom isn't sure what that means for the kittens... gotta check that, though they are basically eating on their own, so no real worries.

However, mom got an email from the shelter. Seems 2 kittens from Louisa's litter tested positive for coccidia. And of course we have one in this litter. Which means the whole crew has been exposed (which could explain why Wendy is so darned skinny). They are working on a one dose treatment as opposed to the traditional 10 day course....

And now, of course for the cute!!

BK
(not sure about what names go with the rest of the kittens)

Jail break.....

Mom had seen Silver get over the condo wall..... In fact, we wondered how long it would take before she was trying to sleep with us. Well, she was ok for a couple of days. Mom found her out wandering last night when she got home from work. And again this morning when she got up to get ready for work. :)

Mom loves watching Marble and Silver play. Marble's paperwork says she is almost 2, but we suspect she is younger based on the way she plays. And Silver is right there with her.....

Everyone else is doing well.....  Wendy (the other momma cat) is pretty snotty, but mom caught her eating this morning, so that is good. She is pretty skinny but the kittens are also eating on their own, so it should be OK. More pictures of them to come.....

Another move....

Well, there was another flurry of moving around the house. That mom lady can't seem to make up her mind. As you can see, the "condo" was set back up but in the living room this time (as opposed to the dining room). Mom was going to move stuff around in the 2nd bedroom and put it there until she realized Marble would stake out that space and since we eat in there, we were glad mom changed her mind.

Marg asked what happens to Marble now. The rescue has 2 adoption spots at the local Petco. The next adoption that happens will leave a space that Marble will fill.

Eileen asked if she might be confusing the ees with another group. There was a group of black kittens a couple of weeks ago, but that was the group that Louisa (the mom cat) died and the kittens went back. They were from the shelter. Eastwood and Einstein are from the same rescue that took in Silver and Marble.

baby jail  :)

 So, why were they moved??

One of the crazy foster families from the shelter brought back her momma cat and kittens on Saturday. Said that she couldn't handle them. (what's to handle - they are 4 weeks old???)  Mom figured she would get the email since she didn't think there were other families available that would take a mom and kittens (not sure why - moms make it easier). Yesterday she got the email and picked them up. Wendy is the mom and the shelter named the kittens after fast food restaurants - but mom isn't sure which one is which yet.

the three tabby boys

hey - that is one of Louisa's girls... YEAH!!

another boy

Wendy the mom

Wendy and one of the tabby boys went back to the shelter already this morning. Wendy is VERY snotty and the middle tabby boy in that first picture was acting pretty lethargic as well. The rest are doing eating on their own (which is good since Wendy showed no desire to nurse them last night) and were doing their best impression of mexican jumping beans this morning.

Mancat Monday.....

The new guys are eating well and pretty playful. But they are pretty messy, so they are still restricted to the bathroom. Mom spent time playing with them this weekend. Silver can't get over the gate yet, but she is allowed out for short periods of time. She has a blast playing with Marble....

yes, Marble still lets Silver nurse.....sigh. :)

Eastwood

Einstein

We can hear the kittens playing in the bathroom, but since they stop when mom walks back there, she isn't sure how much they are playing together. Silver tends to want mom or want out. However, as you can see, they are all about the gooshy fuds.

600 posts.....

Wow.....that doesn't seem possible. When we first started out on 8/10/09 mom was writing about us but she was doing all the posting. We have since taken over.

We have had 122 fosters in that time - lots of ups and downs and serious amounts of cuteness!!

(two of the g's - George & Gigi)

Mom raised her first bottle baby (Bug):

And got involved in TNR - which got us this:

And along the way we have met great people, kitties and woofies!!!

Mom will be laying out the tempations, niptinis and some peanut butter treats for the woofies. Stop by and party with us......

arrival of the ees....

As you may know, mom has been trying to find some friends for Silver. Marble is spending less time with her (and finding Silver a little more annoying as time goes on). Silver certainly acts like she needs someone to play with and mom doesn't want any "single bratty kitten syndrome". MOL

who me? bratty?? nah....

So, Miss Beckie (remember her from Monday?), called and said there were a pair of kittens. A little younger than Silver, but eating on their own. So, mom got them the other night and got everyone set back up in the bathroom (no more condo in the living room....).

Eastwood

Einstein

the new guys

Silver wasn't too sure what to think about them. Eastwood is a bit hissy - he would hide in a corner and spit at Silver, which of course made her run back to mom. Einstein is purry and loves mom already. The 3 kittens are still working it out, but we know it will be fun and games in no time. In fact, mom found them sleeping in a pile last night.

Eastwood and Einstein do seem to be trying to nurse....on each other. MOL Mom is hoping maybe Marble will give them a break but Marble doesn't seem overly inclined to take on more kittens (can't blame her for that). Mom ended up syringe feeding Einstein this morning. He just doesn't get the canned food like his bother and mom wants to keep up his strength.

Tabby Tuesday....

Head alpha mancat Tommy and my ninja sidekick brofur Tim here.....

(hold on - Tommy's gotta wake up the ninja sidekick)

First, we want to introduce you to someone new we have met online. Everyday Critter doesn't have many followers but she has posted about a fundraiser she is doing for a bottle baby kitten nursery where she volunteers for Austin Pets Alive. Bottle babies, nursery....we are in!!!

Tim: dude - mom says you gotta stop growling at the lady cat that is hanging out here.

Tommy: not a chance. besides, she starts it.

Tim: only sometimes. and mom isn't yelling all the time, but she said you are gonna get it.

Tommy: get what?
Tim: I don't know, but I doubt it is nip or treats or gooshy fuds. you may want to take note and lay off.

Tommy: whatever.....

Tim: dude - you have been warned....
