Tuesday news....

Mom followed Just1Day on their facebook page yesterday. It sounds like there were HUGE successes with adoptions....empty cages as families showed up in droves.  We were excited to see it....though a little sad that it takes something like this for people to come out and adopt. But hey - LOTS of lives saved. For every adoption two lives are saved - the one going home and the one that can use that available space.  :)

Well, mom spent Sunday at Petco and took the outlaws and Silver. She put Silver in the open cages with Marble and Mittens. Marble kissed Silver in greeting and then went about her business. Mittens was NOT HAPPY!!!! The outlaws bounced around baby jail....

Mom debated leaving Silver, but she knows that the only way Silver is going to get adopted is to be seen. She sent her info to be put on Petfinder.com, but it helps to be out there.

Rather than stress out Mittens, they separated the cages again and Silver and Marble are living in the top condo and Mittens is living in the bottom one.

Mom admits that she keeps waiting for Silver to jump out at her....it is a little odd not having her loose in the house.

And in other news......

Marble has been adopted and is going home tonight. A family met her on Friday, filled out an application and came in on Sunday and mom happened to be there. They have a 1 year old male cat (orange and white tabby) who needs a friend. Mom is going to email them some info on introducing cats and keeping her fingers crossed. It sounds like their house has more space than ours, so we think she should be fine.  Happy journey Marble - you were a super sweet foster and we wish you well in your new home. :)

Wacky weekend update...

First from yesterday, Marg asked about Swizzle's kittens - Martini and Mojito were the only two that tested negative for FeLV. Martini was adopted last fall. Mojito was as well but about a month ago our friend Miss Beckie found a post on craigslist trying to rehome a kitten - which is a violation of their contract. So, Mojito was picked up and readopted about 2 weeks later.

And on to our wacky weekend......

Marble is at Petco. There was an open cage at another store, so mom moved a cat there and took Marble over to the adoption event and she stayed. Silver came back home with her since she isn't spayed yet. The non-technical scale they use for treats said she weighs about 1.75 pounds. :)  Hopefully she will make weight in the next week or so. Marble was pretty chatty most of the morning.

The ees aren't doing so great. Mom took them to the adoption center on Saturday and the rescue lady gave them fluids. Miss Beckie is a people nurse but she is home a little more and offered to take them back to make sure they get a little more medical attention. We aren't sure what is up with them, but we know every effort will be made to keep them healthy.

The condo came down - no reason to leave it up since Silver won't stay in there anyhow. MOL

Wendy and the kittens aren't as snotty, but they still have the runs. Mom is gonna email the shelter today and see what is going on.

Mom says there are a few things in the work this week, so we shall see what happens. :)

Jail break.....

Mom had seen Silver get over the condo wall..... In fact, we wondered how long it would take before she was trying to sleep with us. Well, she was ok for a couple of days. Mom found her out wandering last night when she got home from work. And again this morning when she got up to get ready for work. :)

Mom loves watching Marble and Silver play. Marble's paperwork says she is almost 2, but we suspect she is younger based on the way she plays. And Silver is right there with her.....

Everyone else is doing well.....  Wendy (the other momma cat) is pretty snotty, but mom caught her eating this morning, so that is good. She is pretty skinny but the kittens are also eating on their own, so it should be OK. More pictures of them to come.....

Another move....

Well, there was another flurry of moving around the house. That mom lady can't seem to make up her mind. As you can see, the "condo" was set back up but in the living room this time (as opposed to the dining room). Mom was going to move stuff around in the 2nd bedroom and put it there until she realized Marble would stake out that space and since we eat in there, we were glad mom changed her mind.

Marg asked what happens to Marble now. The rescue has 2 adoption spots at the local Petco. The next adoption that happens will leave a space that Marble will fill.

Eileen asked if she might be confusing the ees with another group. There was a group of black kittens a couple of weeks ago, but that was the group that Louisa (the mom cat) died and the kittens went back. They were from the shelter. Eastwood and Einstein are from the same rescue that took in Silver and Marble.

 So, why were they moved??

One of the crazy foster families from the shelter brought back her momma cat and kittens on Saturday. Said that she couldn't handle them. (what's to handle - they are 4 weeks old???)  Mom figured she would get the email since she didn't think there were other families available that would take a mom and kittens (not sure why - moms make it easier). Yesterday she got the email and picked them up. Wendy is the mom and the shelter named the kittens after fast food restaurants - but mom isn't sure which one is which yet.

Wendy and one of the tabby boys went back to the shelter already this morning. Wendy is VERY snotty and the middle tabby boy in that first picture was acting pretty lethargic as well. The rest are doing eating on their own (which is good since Wendy showed no desire to nurse them last night) and were doing their best impression of mexican jumping beans this morning.

First, we want to introduce you to someone new we have met online. Everyday Critter doesn't have many followers but she has posted about a fundraiser she is doing for a bottle baby kitten nursery where she volunteers for Austin Pets Alive. Bottle babies, nursery....we are in!!!

Tim: dude - mom says you gotta stop growling at the lady cat that is hanging out here.

Tommy: not a chance. besides, she starts it.

Tim: only sometimes. and mom isn't yelling all the time, but she said you are gonna get it.

Tommy: get what?

Tim: I don't know, but I doubt it is nip or treats or gooshy fuds. you may want to take note and lay off.

Tommy: whatever.....

More about the newbies...

So, Louisa is doing better. The dewormer worked and as of Saturday night, she seemed to have a little more control. However, she is going to take some patience. She keeps giving mom the hairy look of death. She is so tiny and pitiful....mom is trying to help and she doesn't understand that. She has even snapped at mom a few times in warning.

Sunday afternoon, the kittens got combed out, Louisa got combed out (mom skipped the bath for now - didn't want to stress her any more than necessary - or lose a finger). And the bathroom got cleaned. It took mom about an hour (the cleaning, not including the combing).....it was a MESS!

As to the kittens: 5 girls, 2 boys. And one of the boys has a white spot on his chest - that may be the only one mom is able to tell on the spot. Hopefully they get a couple of distinguishing marks as they get a little bit bigger, but we doubt it.

Mom considered seeing if Marble would help out. Louisa is pretty thin - though the kittens seem fine. Mom pulled out 3 kittens on Saturday evening, cleaned them up and set them up in the bottom half of a carrier so she could sit with them. Marble came over. She kissed a couple. She got in the carrier. She got back out and went into the pen with Silver. Mom put the carrier with the new kitts in it in the pen but no luck. So they are back with Louisa, but everyone is doing ok so mom says she is leaving well enough alone for now. Main thing is to get some weight on Louisa and keep the kittens doing well - cause NO ONE wants 7 bottle babies. :)

Mom has decided to try to help Louisa out some. There are a couple of tinier kittens. One is a girl and she latches right on to the bottle so mom is feeding her twice per day. Mom is working on pictures....it is hard to get since if they are near mom, they look like one big black blob....  MOL (in that second picture, 2 are nursing - and Louisa is giving mom her typical "touch me and die" look)

When mom took Caramel in for his vaccinations, the rescue lady asked if our bathroom was empty. Since Caramel was leaving that night (and hadn't been in the bathroom for over a month) mom said yep!

Seems that a momma cat had come in with bigger kittens and the momma cat was spayed - though she still had some milk. And then.....an orphaned baby came in. It was worth a try, so they introduced the kitten to the momma cat (named Marble). And Marble decided to adopt that baby. The concern was that Marble wasn't producing enough milk for the kitten (Silver) so they were supplimenting. Mom said that she would be willing to help if they wanted. So, Marble and Silver came home with her last night. Mom set them up in the bathroom and put the blankets in a laundry basket to contain the baby.

Mom has tried to suppliment Silver, but s/he isn't so sure about the bottle. And when s/he screams, Marble comes over and stands up to give mom the stink eye. (mom isn't sure is Silver is a boy or a girl yet)

So, since Silver doesn't act hungry, mom is just keeping on eye on everything. And Marble LOVES that baby....  In fact, mom went in to check on them around 4am and the laundry basket was EMPTY!! Mom looked over and Marble was in the corner on another blanket, Silver curled up next to her asleep.

The laundry basket was removed and a big soft bed put in place. Nope - Marble was to sleep in the corner and keeps moving Silver. So, mom spread the fleece blankets across that half of the bathroom.

Dis is a little better than the basket, but that corner looks good too

Need more cute?  Lee County Clowder has a bottle baby - the neighbors found it and brought it to them to raise.
