Random Fridays

We got the REALLY hots coming this weekend, so mom says she has no big plans to do much of anything. She has a book from the library to read and a few books saved to her Kindle, so that should keep her out of trouble. We kind of like these types of weekends cause her lap is available for snoozing.

Nashville keeps finding London sleeping in this cup
(a friend gave it to us)
and climbing in to nap together...awww

Reno and Topeka snoozing in the sun by the sliding door
The TNR kittens are still little but doing very well. They love being out and are all lovey and snuggly. Just don't stand too close when they get their canned food....wow they are a bit....aggressive. The other morning mom was leaving for work and they weren't quite done but she opened the door to the playpen anyhow. The boys ran out. Tim stuck his head in and Topeka growled at him. He of course doesn't really care, but mom was laughing as she walked down the stairs to her car.

Surf & Turf FUNdraiser!
In case you missed it, Miss Andrea and the kitties over at Celestial Kitties are having another fun-draiser for Miss Chrystal and the Winnie's Wish kitties. We are stealing mom's magic card today and getting ours. If you haven't ever gotten some toys from her, they are hand made, wonderfully crafted and have the serious high test nip in them.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mom has the spice kittens on new meds. So....today they will be getting baths and then she will be cleaning the bathroom (again - for the bazillionth time it seems). Hopefully the kittens will be on the upswing. The meds seem to be starting to work, but they will be on them until next week. They are eating like mad and WANT OUT!! (which is so NOT gonna happen quite yet).
Thankful Thursday
Morocco goes to be spayed next Tuesday and then can start looking for her forever home. She has started singing a mild version of the "I need a boyfriend" song, so that will be a relief to everyone here. Morocco has turned into quite a lover. She enjoys getting up on mom's lap and just lounging. She will make a great companion for someone. She gets along with most of us here....she gets annoyed when Daiquiri plays "too rough" with the kittens, but otherwise she has been fine. Mom would love to get her really brushed out but Morocco won't hold still very long.
We are also thankful for local pet stores that support rescues and adoptions. We are all about Adopt Don't Shop!! Another local chain has reached out - the rescue currently has cats in 2 of their stores and starting today will add another store. Mom will be volunteering there twice a week to clean the 3 cages and will also handle the adoptions. We are hoping for lots of adoptions from this location. The one store has had cats in it for about a month and has already done 18 adoptions. The rescue won't be putting kittens in these stores, so these are all adult cats!!
And we are VERY thankful for friends like Miss Andrea from Celestial Kitties!! She adopted 3 kitties from Winnie's Wish (Daily Dose) and has regular FUN-draisers for them as well. It is that time again - and this theme is Surf and Turf!!  We are gonna get mom's magic card and get us some new toys. Are you in???
Opt to Adopt and Fundraiser
As most of you know, in addition to our local rescue, we are big fans of Miss Chrystal and Winnie's Wish over at Daily Dose of Dogs. Well, if you haven't heard by now, they are having a fundraiser to build another cat house. They are at max capacity....so if you have ever considered adopting, now is the time. And don't let distance stop you - we have helped get kitties to California and Canada!!
You can go to their GoFundMe site and donate.
Or....an auction is being organized:
Here are those ready for new homes:
Random Fridays
Holy cod it is cold!!! OK - so that isn't news to most of you, but sheesh.....
~~~~~~~~

As to our occupy the couch movement, certain cats (Tim, Tom, Junior) have attempted to get UNDER the new cover. Mom is less than thrilled..... now she is talking about coming up with a trick to keep it down. Wish her luck.....
~~~~~~~~~~~
We have told you about Miss Chrystal and her private rescue before over at Winnie's Wish. Well, she has a new project that she would like some help with. Adoptions of course are always welcome (and we have helped transport all over, so don't let that stop you). But, with the purrsonalities over there, she wants to try to build an addition to the cat house. Her husband and dad do the work, so the funding is mainly for supplies. If you can help, every little bit is appreciated. There is a GoFundMe site set up for this.
Opt to Adopt - Winnie's Wish
If you have never heard about this small private rescue, you need to click and read. Chrystal lives in Southern Illinois and does her best on her own. With the help of her dedicated followers, two cat houses have been built on her property to house the cats that need her help. But, like all pets, they would love to have a home of their own....
You can find the entire list of available cats on the Petfinder list. And don't think Illinois is a haul....we have helped them place adoptions in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Georgia, California and Canada!!
Opt to Adopt
Most of you know our friend Miss Chrystal from Daily Dose of Dogs. She has the two cat houses and they are FULL UP!!!  And kitten season isn't that far away (hard to believe considering the temperature outside, but still.....)
Anyhow, if you or anyone you know has even been thinking about adding a kitty (or two or more) to their lives, PLEASE considering looking here or pointing them in this direction.
You can see all the kitties on her blog, or you can find them on the Petfinder page for Winnie's Wish.
 Smokey
Toast
These three boys have grown up in the cat houses. They are currently the youngest there - but will be a year old in March. Don't you agree that the best first birthday would be spent in their forever homes. You can read about them here.
And as we say, don't let distance scare you off....we have transported to Canada, Pennsylvania, Georgia and even California.
Random Fridays....
A beer kitten movie to tied you over....
(and yes, mom can get our videos off of You Tube again - gotta love the interwebs)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We know there are some pittie dog lovers out there. Mom saw this article and wanted to share it with you about Breed Specific Legislation (BSL). Now, it does say on there that Ohio repealed their BSL. Which is true - the language for vicious dogs no longer says "pitt bull or pitt bull type dogs". However, there are communities in Ohio that are still enacting local BSL. We suspect someone is going to have to challenge that one in court.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Be sure to help us continue to get the Winnie's Wish kitties adopted. There are some that have been in the cat house a while and some new kitties just rescued!!
~~~~~~~~~~

Someone asked the other day about the microchip tag that Triscuit is wearing in this picture. Mom put it on the collar to have her wear at Blog Paws - you know, just in case. :)  Anyhow...it was HUGE on her and she HATED it. She would catch a glimpse of it and stand up on her back paws, grab the tag between her front paws and chew on the tag.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Tune in next week for a very special update  :)
Have a great weekend!!! We got the kinda-hots here and mom refuses to open the windows anymore. Which isn't so bad as that means Mo and Spud can sleep on the floor vents and catch all the cold air.
Mom is going to tackle the space kittens and the bathroom again this weekend....wish her luck. :)
Black Cat Appreciation Day.....
Of course, Mozart thinks that should be EVERY day. And his siblings say....pfffft.
Mo gives his siblings the evil eye for their disregard
Mo says we need to feature a few black cats that need to be adopted:
Winnie's Wish has a couple of adorable black kittens:
Hershey Bear: Domestic Medium Hair - Brown, Cat; Grand Chain, IL  Hershey Bear
Maverick: Domestic Short Hair-Black, Cat; Grand Chain, IL  Maverick
Mickey Mouse: Domestic Short Hair-Black And White, Cat; Grand Chain, IL Mickey Mouse
**yeah, yeah, we know he isn't black, but he is Maverick's brother and he is SORTA black. :)
The rescue where mom volunteers has several black cats & kittens, but we want to tell you about 2 of them:
                                                  Antonia
She had been adopted but was returned when her family was tranferred to Japan. Now, normally we get a little annoyed by returns "for moving" but we think the distance and the fact that we have heard it is really super hard to find housing in Japan that will allow pets is a good enough reason in this case.
From the shelter: Antonia has a lot of love to give and she would be happy to give some to you. Antonia is a beautiful ebony cat with a calm and quiet disposition. She loves to quietly follow staff around during the day and to rub up against their legs as they walk around the room. She really enjoys having her head petted and especially loves it when she is scratched behind her ears. She does not like to be held too much, but she loves to sit in laps and constantly tries to be with anyone she can. She sometimes is a little hesitant to hang out with the other cats at the shelter, but she tolerates them as long as they do not try to wrestle with her too much or steal her favorite cat beds. Antonia was adopted from our shelter a year ago but was returned recently because her adopters had to move to China and could not take Antonia along. She is a little stressed to be back at the shelter, but please give her a chance to show you her amazing personality and sweet disposition. Antonia promises to make your days and nights less lonely.
                                           Chloe
Chloe is a BIG girl. Mom calls her the beach whale - she is living in the directors office. You can hear her calling for attention when you walk into the shelter. And when you walk in the office, she immediate drops to the floor and rolls over for tummy rubs.
From the shelter: Chloe is a wonderful girl who has had a rough start to life. She was originally brought to Logan County Humane Society over two and a half years ago. At the Humane Society, adult cats take a very long time to be adopted, even if they are as sweet and wonderful as Chloe. For this reason, she stayed at Logan County for over three years. She recently was transferred to us in the hope that her adoptive family will come soon to CHA and take her home. She is a goofy girl - When you come in the room with her, she will instantly lay down and arch up her back and invite you to pet her. She LOVES attention and is a purr machine. When you pet her, she will happily knead her paws and purr away. When you sit down, Chloe will come right up and put her two paws on your lap. Chloe has been exposed to other cats thoroughly for the last three years and as a result, she gets along with everyone.
So, there you have it. Our house panther and some house panthers that need homes. Need more incentive?  Our pal Romeo the cat posted about Why Black Cats are Awesome
Have a great weekend.
there was this kitten......
How many of us have heard or told a story that started that way?
We know most of you reading this are animals or animal people - or you wouldn't still be reading.... MOL
And we know that most of you do something to support rescue: adopt, volunteer, foster or donate. But we are asking you to help us help a small rescuer.....
Mom wants to be like Crystal when she grows up. Crystal opened her home and her heart - and her bank account - to build 2 cat houses to take in those cats that need help. She has had some great saves, stories, losses and adoptions. Now we would like to help her spread the word and get those adult cats still in the cat houses adopted. You may have heard it before, but adoption really saves 2 lives - the one you adopt and the one that can be rescued into that open space.
You can order a brick for the walkway. We already have one and are ordering one to honor and remember our angels Butterscotch and Tigger.
Or, you can tweet, blog or facebook about these great cats.
Or, if you know of someone looking for a special cat (or two), direct them to Winnie's Wish on Petfinder:
