Random Fridays

Thanks for all the well wishes for Coral. She has been eating much better and actually got up and slept on the bed the last couple of night, which she hasn't done in over a week. No results from the v-e-t yet... hoping for those today.

Mom plans to take Cassidy with her to an adoption event on Saturday. The kittens aren't ready to go yet. Cass on the other hand is feeling pretty lively and in fact can jump the white baby jail gate (who knew). And she has made it known that she did her part but would like to now be done with those kittens. MOL

Speaking of kittens, how about some weights:
  Stoli: 1 pound 8 ounces
  Sangria: 1 pound 9 ounces (mom was surprised)
  Daiquiri: 1 pound 1 ounce
  Kahlua: 1 pound

Our Sunshine girl is doing well in her new home. She has made friends with a short hair black male named Blackie who is about her age. Her new mom says there is one cat in the house who isn't happy with Sunshine yet, but that she has settled in and seem comfortable.  :)

We hope you have a great weekend. It is supposed to be MUCH cooler and rainy here.

weekend wrapup

Guess who was adopted last week??? Yep, our momma cat Sunshine went home with her new mom on Thursday after she was spayed. Her new mom has other cats, two of whom are 1 and 2 years old, so hopefully once Sunshine settles in and recovers from surgery she will have some friends to play with. Mom already got a quick update and Sunshine escaped her room already and seems a little nervous but has also come looking for affection.

The little oranges are doing better and mom is hoping to get them spayed/neutered this week. And... once they have surgery, they have a family all lined up. And they will get to go home together.

Mom had some car issues on Thursday. She got Coral and Sunshine loaded into the car, put the key in the ignition and the car went....click. ARGH!!! (the girls learned some new HBO werds)  Fortunately mom layed on the gas the second try and the car started...she drove straight to the car guy and he replaced her battery. But it screwed up her morning and was money she hadn't planned on spending.

Coral has been doing this weird reflux thing when she swallows. Mom made an appointment with the vet. They think her system may be sensitive so mom will be keeping track and has pepcid on hand if she needs it. She is also upgrading her to a premium canned food. Oh...and her weight? 2 pounds 15 ounces. And yes, she turned 5 months old on 9-10. MOL The vet thinks she is fine and is just going to be a tiny cat. As always, she was very well behaved and climbed up into the arms of the vet, laid back and purred. What a ham.

And on another front, mom has been trying to find a treat Coral likes (for having a reward when they are out). Temptations - no. Blue Buffalo Yums - no. Freeze Dried Chicken - no. Freeze Dried Shrimp - no. Goofy girl....

video wednesday

Sunshine is getting a little smug....mom put the other shower curtain on TOP of baby jail. Sunshine can still climb up and get out but the kittens are too little to push the cover up and escape. We shall see how long THAT lasts. ;)

on the move

It was about that time.....  Ash, Jet and Quartz made it up to the adoption center on Friday. Mom stopped on Saturday (more on that later in the week) and while Jet was curled up in a corner (no surprise), Ash had made a friend his own size and Quartz has made herself the official greeter of the kitten room. Paws crossed we will have adoption news soon.

 The NEW baby jail. Remember we had tried this when the geology kittens were tiny but Coral and Pearl could walk through the bars. Mom did some thinking and came up with a plan. She bought a heavy duty shower curtain. The pen sits on it and then the sides were brought up and connected with zip ties.

 Pretty nice set up....more space and they can see out the balcony doors (off to the left).

 These have to be the most concerned looking kittens ever....

The problem we face now is that Sunshine can get out. She does go back in and the kittens are eating on their own, but still. Fortunately everyone here is ok with her. Though poor Spud almost had a stroke when he was sure he got away from Junior only to turn around and see another orange cat. Luckily she is pretty mellow and doesn't care.

weekend wrap up

**note from the mom: some of you may have seen this before - blogger gremlins posted it before they were supposed to. ugh...

Well, mom took Quartz, Coral, Ash and Calvin to a local Petco for an adoption event. And we got....

NOTHING.
Quartz and Coral were spayed on Friday and did great. Quartz came home Friday night and was WOUND up!!! So she spent Saturday sleeping - preferably on someone (Ash in this case).

Coral was pretty hung over Friday night:
what are YOU looking at??

Oh, and Saturday night, mom made a discovery: remember how we took in the two older snotty kittens? And Miss Mona was a little confused about who was who. Well.....Calvin the Black was sleeping on mom Saturday night and was upside down. And.....Calvin is now Not-Calvin. Cause Calvin is....a GIRL!!!  Bwahahahaha

The snot seems to be improving, so not-Calvin, Winston and Ash will go up to the adoption center on Tuesday. Paws crossed for quick adoptions.  *note: Ash's eyes continue to run and non-Calvin started sneezing again.....so Winston will go up. sigh...

And now for some orangey goodness:

Sunshine

 Tangerine

Clementine

Sunshine is a great mom. And the kittens are getting a little more active - and no more coordinated. :)  They tend to walk along and then fall over.  Mom is handling them to get them used to her.

the newbies - orangies

We interrupt this post for:
BREAKING NEWS

We have a winner in Coral's weight contest. Mom weighed her last night and....

drumroll please.....

Coral weighs 2 pounds 4 ounces

Our winners are Kintaro and TT. Please email us at randomfelines at hotmail dot com

And mom made another decision: we are going to make a donation to Feline Rescue in the name of Glorgirly, Katie and Waffles since they were closest to when Coral hit 2 pounds.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What is in a name??  Well, around here it is a way to know who everyone is and keep them straight. And as we have said before, we love a good theme, no people names (except for that one group, but they were named after famous actors), and mom doesn't have to have a name related to the group.
Sometimes the names come quick and sometimes it take a little longer. And sometimes you stumble across the name. In this case, the mom cat kept trying to get out the bathroom door. At one point mom said "I don't think so sunshine" and it stuck.
Meet Sunshine
She is probably about 9 months old. She came into the local humane society and gave birth to her kittens there. The family didn't have much a chance and so someone pulled them and we are going to keep them safe.
Sunshine had two kittens. One male, one female. The boy is a brighter orange than his sister (though it is tough to tell in these picture). He is also twice her size. MOL  Going with the Sunshine thing, mom named the boy Clementine and the female Tangerine. (aka Clem and Tangie)
They are about 12 days old give or take. Eyes open and a little mobile. Sunshine is being a good mom though she is more interested in mom when she comes in than in the kittens. We suspect once those kittens get old enough to eat on their own, Sunshine will lose interest pretty quickly. She has made it out the bathroom door once and was fine with everyone here - no freaking out or anything.
