A year in review (part 2)

July:
With Killian getting adopted and the rest of the beer kittens up at Petco, mom felt the need to bring home more kittens: Sorcha, Sebastian, Sierra and Screech

And then Licorice arrived....that has been an adventure (and she is STILL waiting for her forever home).

Our wordless Wednesday posts were dedicated to one of us per week. Most of July was taken up trying to determine what was up with Licorice, getting her healthy and less itchy.

August:
Sierra and Sebastian got adopted. And of course mom brought home more kittens - Hobbes and Mandy.

We celebrated our 4th blogoversary.

Busch and Miller were adopted together. We helped a former adopter rescue a kitten named Mitts. And Jake and Elwood came to the house as fosters.

September:
Stella was adopted!!!  And the pilot kittens - Goose, Maverick and Amelia (the Dust Bunny) joined us as fosters.

Mitts got adopted!!

Licorice finally was spayed, got her teeth cleaned and went up to Petco.

Spud and Ivy turned 5 years old and Maestro turned 19 years old!!

Elwood got to meow like a space-pirate.  MOL

And mom had an adventure with Junior that she could have done without.

October:
Tim and Tom turned 10 years old!

And we celebrated National Feral Cat Day. Especially our girl Allie.

Our cousin Max crossed the Rainbow Bridge. And Jake and Elwood got adopted.

And Basil and Saffron joined us as fosters.

November:
Oliver went to Petco, came here (in October), gave everyone the snot and then got adopted.

Rosie came to join Basil, Saffron and Amelia.

And Chex and Milano were returned due to medical issues with their family.

December:
Amelia finally got big enough and without snot to be spayed. Basil went with and was neutered.

Mom broke out some Christmas stuff....and made some of us wear it.

Basil got adopted. Maverick got adopted. Milano moved up to Petco. It was a wild weekend. :)

We got a special Catmas present from mom.

We participated in the Secret Paws gift exchange.

Rosie got adopted.

It has been quite a year. The blogging community has lost several members - you can see them here at the blog Our Rainbow Friends.  We have taken in fosters, and some were not strong enough to survive, but we know that part of fostering isn't always the good things but sometimes being there to help those that need us - even if it is help crossing the Bridge.

We have taken in 39 fosters this year. We have had some great adoptions. Mom has helped transport 20 dogs.

We wish you a wonderful, healthy and happy 2014!!  We can't wait to see what comes.

Adoption stuff.....

We would like to talk about adoptions.....and applications.

Oliver went home Sunday
As some of you may (or may not) know, mom gets the applications for the cats at our local Petco store. She reviews them, checks information, and then calls people to let them know they are approved or not or if she needs more information.

Here is the thing that blows her mind - the application isn't really that hard. Name/address. People in the household. Employer. Contact information. References. Committment information. Animals in the house. Past animal ownership.

And yet, surprisingly, people can't seem to get the stuff right...or complete. Or they don't "get it" when mom calls with questions about some of their answers.
Mom got an application for Luke (above) on Saturday. Good application - all the necessary information. But she has an 8 month old female cat at home. And Luke didn't do so well when Oliver was taken up to Petco a while ago.

So mom called the woman and said everything looks good and checks out. But could she suggest another kitten that might be a better fit. The woman said sure so mom took Oliver with her. It was love at first sight. And the woman said she was greatful that mom knows the kittens well enough to know what will work or not and make suggestions. (mom thought to herself that she is thankful the woman was willing to take suggestions)

But some other applications - it makes us wonder. One had a dog - when mom called the vet they said that the dog has to be muzzled due to being animal and people aggressive. Others don't have their animals spayed or neutered....and can't understand why we have an issue with that. Mom is willing to work with people - but they have to be reasonable.

But hey - we LOVE great adoptions....and sometimes we wonder if we could try to convince people to take more than one.

that wasn't the plan....

Since we don't actually get many adoptions while the kittens are hanging out here, mom decided to take Oliver up to Petco on Saturday morning.

Luke was up there by himself and acting all needy since his brother Linus was adopted. We aren't sure why Luke is still up there - he is super sweet and outgoing.

Now, we know.....we always recommend slow introductions. Separate space, lots of time. So, do as we say, not as we do. Mom put Oliver in with Luke. And Luke wasn't very happy about it.....there was some name calling but it didn't go beyond that.

However, mom got a text on Sunday morning. Luke was VERY NOT HAPPY with Oliver being in the same cage. So, Oliver is back here with us again..... so much for that plan.  We think Luke would be fine in a house with other animals, but obviously need a much slower introduction with more space. MOL

Opt to Adopt

This is Oliver......

He is a sweet medium hair gray boy who is currently in foster with us. He was raised by our friend Miss Beckie and went up to our local Petco store. Then he got a cold so he came over here to recover - and spread around his germs. MOL

He is great with us and with the other fosters here. And he would have been around a dog at Miss Beckie's house.

tock-tober

Some big orange tocks:

Uncle Tim tocks and fuzzy Oliver tocks:

And Goose has a story about his tocks:

So you remember that mom bought us this new tunnel right?

Well she left the ties on in case she wants to collapse it. The other night, Goose was playing with the ties, grabbed one and ran.....and the tunnel followed him!!!  And then he ran in a circle and it swung around and bonked him on the butt. He was so startled he shot straight up in the air and then straight under the sofa.  Mom laughed so hard she almost fell out of her chair.

Goose braved up a little and stuck his head out from under the sofa - Oliver and Maverick were there staring at him. :)  And then, as Goose was about to come out, Mozart (on the other side of the room) walked into the tunnel. It made the crinkly noise and Goose was back under the sofa.

Fortunately he wasn't scarred for life as he was playing with the tunnel the next day.

Random Friday.....

Mom was reading all the Remember Me Thursday post yesterday. It was wonderful to see the support for the movement. But even more than that, it was a good reminder to mom and to us that there are SO MANY people out there who want the same things we do. Another reason we love being part of this community.

Goose looks like he is snoopervising Maverick's inspection

How many monkeys can you fit in the cat tree??
Apparently at least four - mom didn't notice Maverick down below
until she loaded the picture. MOL

no one does disdain quite like a kitten - MOL

We could use some purrs sent to our cousin Max.

Mom's brother called her the other night asking about some dental issues that Max was having. Mom said it was time to see a vet. Mom's sister-in-law (Max's mom since before she married mom's brother) sent her a text on Thursday and said they had been into the vet and got a diagnosis of cancer. Due to his age (he is about 16 years old) and the location, there isn't much they can do but keep him comfortable. He wasn't eating much but they discovered he will eat deli turkey. They are going to keep feeding him whatever he wants and give him all the love he can stand for whatever time they have.

updates....

Mom was supposed to do a bloodhound run on Saturday, but it was cancelled due to lack of drivers. Don't worry though, they found a long haul trucker willing to help them out and by Saturday night Scout was with his forever family. :)

Everyone here seems to be doing better. Mom thinks she may have been using an old batch of meds, so she got a new batch and it seems to be working better. Oliver still has runny eyes, but nothing as bad as it was.
Oliver and Jake snoozing

Speaking of Oliver, he had an adventure the other day.

We think we have mentioned the set up of the condo before....you come in the garage, go up half a set of stairs, turn and go up another half set and then the condo is all on one level.
Well Oliver was up there and started chasing something. And....he fell off....and that is about a 10 foot drop. From the thud, mom suspects he didn't land on his feet. Mom checked on him and he was just sitting on the landing. As mom started down to grab him, he bounced up and took off past her up the stairs. Ugh.....those kittens are bound and determined to give mom a stroke.
We all love to sit up there (that is Elwood) but we don't normally fall off.

Sunday there was an adoption event held at the local Mars manufacturing factory (think Pedigree and Whiskas). They invite 12 groups each summer to a big event. Our rescue wasn't there but our friend Miss Karen was there with the cocker spaniel rescue so mom drove over to check it out.

Mom left at about the 1 hour mark of the event being open. At that time, 1 cat and 20 dogs had already been adopted. It was great weather and an amazing turnout....there were people everywhere.
*Final adoption count was 76 dogs and 14 cats!!!

Gray boys.....Opt to Adopt

As always, our fosters are looking for great forever homes!!!

Right now we have 3 gray boys around here....Jake and Elwood, and Oliver who is here short term due to runny eyes.
Oliver is fuzzy as opposed to the other boys.....mom is working on the eyeball situation. sigh....

Photo: Elwood is getting his Yoda on!!!
Mom took Elwood to Petco on Sunday and got his Yoda ears. He actually let mom put them on. Mom went over to the adoption center and showed the picture to Miss Mona who completely cracked up. He even walked around the store some on the leash and harness - it took him a few minutes to get used to it, but it went MUCH better than mom expected for the first time.

And then there is Jake. Don't believe that expression on his face - that boy has places to go and things to get in to.

And this is why we would like to see them get adopted together.....
