cat guys

Mom had an interesting conversation at an adoption event on Saturday. She had taken Chanel, Bogart and Rooney to the event along with other kittens from the adoption center. A guy in his 20s came up and they were talking about cats and he mentioned that he rescued a kitten that had wandered into his back yard. Mom said that the world needed more cat guys like him. He kind of blushed and said he didn't want to be called a cat guy.

But why not? While mom gets annoyed with the "crazy" part of cat lady, it seems that being called a cat guy is a cool thing. There are famous cat guys: think Jackson Galaxy. There are some cat guys that some people wouldn't think are cat guys: Chris Barron the lead singer of the Spin Doctors is on Twitter and takes time on Saturdays to like and retweet cat pictures. Mr. Blasko on Instagram plays bass guitar for Ozzy Osbourne and is a cat guy.

There are are cat guys that blog: Brian's Home is run by his dad Terry; Animal Shelter Volunteer Life is written by our friend meowmeowman (aka Kevin); I Have Three Cats is written by John. (and those are just the ones mom can think of off the top of her head...we bet there are lots more out there - be sure to share and let everyone know).

And then there are the lady bloggers with cat guy husbands that are too numerous to list here....but there are LOTS of them.

Of course there is Cupcake's new dad as well:

Thankful Thursday

Remember this guy:
Yep, that is Hobbes when he first got to our house.

Then he moved to the Petco store and was living with Impala (who had originally been fostered by Miss Beckie). And then they both caught the infamous snot from Oliver....but with everyone here and the holidays, Impala went back to Miss Beckie's house and Hobbes went to our friend Miss Karen. Both kittens were feeling better and went to another Petco store. That is a MUCH smaller store and the kittens were allowed out of their cage to run around the store and burn off some energy.

Well, a man came into the store and filled out an application for Impala. And when he came into the store on Saturday to finalize, she was out running around with Hobbes and they were found snuggled up together. The man didn't want to separate them, so he decided to adopt them both!!

He lives alone with his kids part time (2 teenagers) and no other animals. We bet these two keep him laughing.

So, today we are thankful for....adopters...and cat guys!!!

Thankful Thursday.....

First, mom loved all the comments from yesterday. Carolyn asked if the boys pay rent - mom snorted and muttered something about "if only...."

So, we were thinking about all the things we are thankful for, and as we start a new year, we want to point out those people we think about alot....

THANK YOU to:
Those who rescue - be it for a non-profit or just on your own

Those who volunteer at shelters and rescues - they can't do it without you

Those who drive transports every weekend - those animals get out of shelters because of you

Those who foster - what an amazing start for these animals

Those who choose to ADOPT!!

And that leads to this: In April of 2011, a beautiful torbie girl came into the shelter. She was named Esmerelda.
She did ok at first, but mom said she could tell that Es was getting depressed the longer she was at the shelter. She moved from a cage to a real room with other cat roommates. But, she wouldn't greet people and just didn't seem to care.

About a week ago, she and another cat named Butterscotch went to Petsmart. And on this past Saturday, an application was faxed over from Petsmart for Esmerelda. Single middle aged guy. Owns his condo. Had cats before but no current pets.  YEAH!!!

He was approved....seems he had been in to see her about 3-4 times. And when it came down to it, he couldn't leave Butterscotch, so he ended up taking both girls!!

So, today we are REALLY thankful for:
