Mo's Favorite Time of Year
We still don't (and may never) understand why so many people have preconceived notions about black cats. In so many other countries they are considered GOOD luck. Mom can attest that they are hard to photograph, but when people come into shelters they still tend to get overlooked. We say BAH HUMBUG! (mom says something else, but we can't repeat it here)
Mozart
Juniper and Daiquiri
Allie, our feral cat
We don't know the actual statistics, but we hear torties are a close second for least adopted, so we are featuring Juniper too....
Here are some of our numbers: out of 260 total cats and kittens to date, we have had 35 black cats - 9 female and 26 male. Of those, only 1 black momma cat (which we find pretty interesting....any guess? yep, our feral girl Allie). In addition, we have had 8 tortie kittens.
We think every house needs a house panther. Check your local rescue and pick out one of your very own.

(you can't have this one, get your own)
Rosie is going to be super duper mad at me for not realizing today is HER DAY and Black Cat Appreciation Day. I love black cats!
ReplyDeleteBlack cats are pretty pawsome.
ReplyDeleteEven though I love ALL cats, there is nothing like the silky fur of a black cat...mmmm, nice!
ReplyDeleteThe ol' lampshade on the head gag... A little less catnip at parties, guys.
ReplyDeleteAnd black cats? Smooth and smart.
it seriously was a total "picture of the moment" thing that mom couldn't resist :) Mo may never live it down
DeleteI've read the black cats are considered good luck in Japan. I wonder if the Western witch hunt obsession going back hundreds of years is to blame ... then again, people at that time also believed the world was flat and most people recognize that to be false today!
ReplyDeleteWe love black cats! And all cats! Our great brother Zim had a couple neighborhood kit-cat pals who were black. His bestest friend was Fluffy Black Cat. They used to hang out together all the time!
ReplyDeleteYours sincerely,
Margaret Thatcher
but I want that one!! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, black cats are awesome.. which is probably why they are so hard to photograph ;)
We think black cats rock and rule! Mom wishes we had one now, but there is no room! She says our two angel panfurs were the sweetest kitties. And torties...torties rock too. Love them! People who avoid these kitties don't know what they are missing! XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
ReplyDeleteMy house panther is named Allie also! But she is definitely the opposite of feral. Love my girl
ReplyDeleteBlack cats are awesome! We don't get the prejudice either.
ReplyDeleteBlack cats are the best! We absolutely love them (just ask Gracie and Zoe)!
ReplyDeleteHOUZ PANTHERZ TOTAL LEE ROCK...ALL WAYZ HAZ....ALL WAYZ WILL !! ♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the prejudices against black cats either. I think all cats are beautiful, including black cats and torties. Happy Black Cat Appreciation Day!
ReplyDeleteWe don't understand the bad rep black cats get either. They are beautiful and awesome! I've had 3 black cats in my lifetime (if you count Sampson the mostly-black-tuxedo), and they've all been wonderful. You are right though - they are hard to photograph. Kylo Ren always looks like black blob. MOL!
ReplyDeleteBlack cats are true beauties! Happy Black Cat Appreciation Day! All of you are looking super cute. :) It is crazy that black cats get such a bad reputation. Black clothes, black cars, and black accessories are all really easy to sell! Humans are the weird ones in all of this.

When I was in rescue we had so many black kitties and it is very true about them being the hardest to place. Your black kitties are beautiful. We are helping spread the word about Black Cat Appreciation Day and wish you a happy one.
ReplyDeleteHappy Black Cat Appreciation Day! We love our black cats :)
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad people don't appreciate black cats like we do. I'm wondering why so many more males than females? Is that normal like it is for gold cats?
ReplyDeletewe don't think so....it would be interesting to see what other foster numbers are or even shelter numbers....not sure that 260 is a good sample size :)
DeleteWe don't understand why black cats get such a bad rap either. And we've heard the same thing about torties. Black cats rock!
ReplyDeleteWe love back cats! Yes, Scout, out tortie was at the shelter a long time before we adopted her.
ReplyDeletegorgeous panthers!! Happy Belated Black Cat Appreciation Day!!! catchatwithcarenandcody
ReplyDeleteWe love black cats! People are just so silly with all their superstitions :(

I don't understand that about black cats either. Interesting, I'd never heard that about torties being second least adopted. I wonder why?
ReplyDeleteWe're sure we've said this before, our sisfur Shady was a black cat and was the sweetest kitty. She lubbed all of us and we lubbed her too. Mom bean was furry sad when she had to cross the Bridge.
ReplyDeleteBlack cats and torties are pawsome!
Sasha, Sami, & Saku
