Exciting Mike news

 MIKE HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!!

A nice young couple saw her online and cane to meet her. Of course they were totally charmed by her and once they settled in their new place, mom and Miss Heather delivered Mike to get new home. All one level and small enough to give her space to explore but not get into trouble.

Mike is truly the example of never giving up. Mom knew there was a family out there that was a fit for Mike. And it may have taken a while, but it happened. Mom and Miss Heather are sad she isn't here but so excited she has her own family.

Congrats Mike and your new mom and dad!!

Happy Birthday Mike

Mike is 1 year old!!! Break out the treats!

If you would have asked when she came here as a foster, we wouldn't have thought she would celebrate here. But we are glad she is happy and healthy.

Last night Mike

We are still looking to get her into her forever home. Mom's friend Heather actually has Mike right now for a couple of weeks. She gets more space and is around other cats all day. She is doing really well but was happy to see mom last night.

Mike's professional pictures

There is a local photographer who schedules a day to take pet pictures. Chanel has gonna a couple of times. When mom saw that David was taking pictures last weekend, she reserved a spot for Mike.

Mike did really well. The hardest part was she had to be on a box to fit in the frame so mom had to hover to keep Mike from falling off.

We think the pictures turned out great.

Jail break

In less than a week, the kittens have cleared the panels. Mom heard a strange noise on Saturday and there sat 2 kittens behind the airlock gate. Oh well....at least it was a few days for everyone to get to know each other.

Mike is a little weird about them being loose. She complains when she alone. But she also complains of they run around too fast. We suspect she would do great with an adult past the crazy stage. But she does like them when they are a little more quiet.

Mom planted flowers on the balcony. So the new game now is escaping kittens while she waters the plants. (So far the kittens are winning)

Mike and the boys

We weren't sure how things would go with the smaller boys in the foster room with Mike. Turns out the answer is - it's all good. Mike was a little annoyed the first day, but she doesn't like change much. The kittens quickly learned her patterns and to get out of her way. Mike does get a little bad when the 4 of them get really wound up and running, but we've learned over the months she's been here it is mostly frustration.

Mike's big adventure

Mom decided to take Mike on an adventure this past weekend. It was warm here (finally) so she and a friend went mid morning to a nearby park. Mom put a harness and leash on Mike - not that she moves very fast but better safe than sorry.

She did so well. They didn't stay long due to the heat, but Mike wasn't fazed by the sounds or anything else going on around them.

Honestly, she was mostly interested in having two people pay attention completely to her. She snuggled up with mom and crawled in her friend's lap for some love as well. It just reinforced to mom that Mike needs her own people.

Of course after that much excitement, it was time for a nap.

**Mike is looking for her forever home. She cannot be around steps - her balance is just not good enough to keep her safe. But she is fine with other cats or by herself and would be great as an apartment cat. Mom says she is willing to drive within 4 hours of central Ohio for the right family.

Foster kitten update

We still have Chickpea and Mike.

Chickpea has seen a surgeon and he felt a polyp at the back of her soft palate. So that will need to be surgically removed and then she will be available for adoption.

We suspect that we just haven't found the right person looking for a Mike to add to their lives. ROCK is going to put him on their Facebook page, so if you feel like sharing, we would appreciate it. Mom loves Mike but this is not the right place to be his forever home.

Chickpea has discovered a new game. It's called "annoy Mike". She jumps back into the Foster room, runs around, pokes Mike, get her wound up, then leaves.

Weekend report

Horton went up to the adoption center on Saturday and went to his forever home that afternoon.

Mike is on the website and ready to go. We just need to find the right family for her. If you know anyone wothon a couple of hours of central Ohio, send them our way.

Chickpea needs to go back to the vet. Her breathing issues are SO frustrating.

Thaddeus is doing better. He was neutered on Thursday. Mom felt bad as he was friendly for the first time that morning and she had to grwb him and haul him to the vet. She still has to catch him to love on him but he is much better.

We also now have Titus that cane from the same area and is likely Thad's brother. He is much friendlier and comes up for love pretty quickly.

Sundays

It was cold and chilly here on Sunday. Mike decided he wanted nothing to do with it so he stayed on bed (he likes to borrow under the water proof mat for whatever reason that makes him happy).

A tunnel

Mom had been doing some research on how to help Mike gain some independence.

For example he can stand up to eat but mostly if mom puts a hand under him to keep him from falling over. She had seen a few things online and contacted a local plastics company for help.

Mike's new tunnel:

It is made from acrylic and is heavy enough he can't tip it over. The box has to be in there for now since mom "might" have gotten the dimensions wrong. She also needs to rig something across the front so he doesn't fall out.

But....it will help him stand up while giving him enough room to wobble some and build up his muscles.

Weekend report

The Beans and the Noodles all got their first vaccines. Some eye boogers going on in there but nothing serious. Mom is saying she needs to get more dishes cause she gets run over on there at mealtime.

Baloo enjoyed some cooker weather this weekend:

Mike is a joy. There are waterproof pads in his own and he makes his own cave system. Mom did order some silicone bowls for him to use since she worries about him banging his head on the dishes as he eats.

Play time

While having the panels set up in the living room takes up space, it is allowing mom to keep an eye on Mike. He's doing well. He is getting stronger and figuring everything out.

There is a waterproof pad folded over in the pen. He loves to climb under half and play.

Chanel and Baloo spend the most time watching him. Baloo will get in there more and likes to try to play.

Meet Michael Phelps

Mom was at the rescue last night when a nice lady showed up with an adult cat and a kitten. The other volunteer grabbed mom and asked her to take a look.

Turns out the lady's neighbor was just going to leave both of them outside. Which is bad enough. Except the kitten is about 6 weeks old....and has cerebellar hypoplasia (CH). He wouldn't have survived 5 minutes on his own.

Plus he was covered in fleas. So he got a snack and a bath. He also got the once over and a name with a cat in our intake department named King.

Another volunteer took him overnight but he now with us since she was unsure about giving him enough supervision with her hours.

He is set up in the living room now. We have all checked him out and we will see how this goes. Right now it's hard to tell how severe he is since he is young. Hopefully a few weeks and we will have a better idea. Either way he is a happy boy and super cute.
