need to learn to wait

Mom says she needs to learn to wait on making those adoption announcements.....

Millie was returned Monday night. (and if we see nasty comments about the adopter, they will be deleted). The family was first time cat owners and took Millie and another adult male. Well, Millie started out hiding, came out hissing and eventually took to stalking Calvin (the other cat). Mom gave them introduction advice and even got them to a local vet (where she knows one of the techs) but it wasn't working out. Rather than stress the family and both cats, mom met them at the partner store and set Millie back up. She may just have to be one of those cats that need a home of her own. We do know that she will need an experienced owner willing to give her time and put up with her tortie-tude. While we are sorry it didn't work out, we have a little more insight into her personality.

  1. That is too bad. It just wasn't meant to be. Some cats just don't get along with other cats. They have to have their own space sometimes. I hope she can find a wonderful home. Good luck to you Millie.

  2. Unfortunate, but better for all concerned to start over now. Annie would have been so much happier as an only cat, so I understand that some simply are like that -- all Beings are different. Fingers (and paws) crossed that Millie does find her forever home, one with experienced and patient humans...and preferably one without other pets! Purrs from my boys to her.

  3. Torties are so special and we're familiar with tortitude here. I'm sure the perfect and experienced adopter will come along for Millie. She has such a sweet face.

  4. That's so sad, but it's wonderful that she has a second chance too. Some lucky person will appreciate your tortitude very soon, beautiful Millie!

  5. But the owners contacted you - which is great. Now you can help Millie find the right home! We actually give those new-cat owner people a lot of credit.
    Yours sincerely,

  8. I've lived their pain. I'll never get over having to return a kitty I loved (I'll call her "L"). Nothing anyone could ever say will hurt more than I already feel. I know I did everything right, and I'm sure this family did too. As new cat owners, they reached out for guidance and sought medical advice. It's kind of odd that in both situations, the cat was a female recently spayed after have a litter of kittens. Some cats are just meant to be only kitties. My heart goes out to the family, and to sweet Millie - it's not her fault either. I hope Millie has the same good luck and fortune that my little girl "L" did. L was adopted by a family who understood she needed to be an only kitty before I even got all the way home. Good luck Millie, I'm pulling for you girl.

  9. Honestly, I kind of got the feeling it might be that way. With more experienced humans, it might have worked out - some torties do need extra work on adjustment. And some DO need to be onlies. My human's heart cat was a calico who definitely thrived as an only and only begrudgingly accepted having Binga around. Binga doesn't care whether she's an only or not, as long as she can do what she wants! But it took my human's longtime cat experience to make the various situations work out for everyone.

I know Millie will find the right home eventually.

  10. Daria Veccia...your comment is EXACTLY what I was going to say! For a huge cat lover to have to return a cat, only the grief of losing my father to cancer was worse. We tried for 3 months to acclimate the 'new' kitty, but she would always go after Chuck, and The Hubby just wasn't going to take it anymore. She went off and was adopted as an only cat. It happens, and it takes a LOT of courage to admit defeat. Millie will find a perfect home someday, no doubt!

  11. The adopters did everything they could - and in returning her, they did what was best for the kitty ! That is the most important thing, even as it breaks your heart. Things will all work out for the best.

  12. Returning a kitty is hard, but it's best that she has a home where she will be happy and comfortable. We'll be crossing our paws her future family finds her soon.

  13. Given that they are first time cat owners, it probably was the best thing to do...though we're sorry for Millie. We know the purrfect home is out there for her.

  14. We're so sorry that it didn't work out for Millie in that home, but it sounds like this was the best thing that could have happened given the situation. Surely she will find a new and purrfect for her home.
