litter review

Every month as a #ChewyInfluencer, we get a free item to review. The free stuff does not influence our thoughts and the review below is our own honest opinion.

This month one of the options was cat litter. Heaven knows we go through a lot....and with the kitten foster room now right near the living room, mom thought this might be an interesting item to try. Mom was going to put it in the foster room, but with added kittens, decided to try it in the tower instead.
Admittedly, it is a little pricey for us at $17.99 for a 16 pound bag. (keep in mind that shipping over $49 is free per order and you can also set up an auto-ship account that will give you a discount as well - we use this feature for our food orders). The information on the website states it is vet recommended, 99% dust free, clumps instantly and scoops easy while eliminating odors and lasting longer.

looks like cat litter to us

We are going to say right up front - this is NOT dust free. Not even close. Mom says she had never found a clay litter that actually IS dust free. She used most of the bag into an empty container and dust went everywhere. Granted....pour out a small amount or pour it out slower and it may throw up less dust. But dump it out and you are on your own. However, it is pretty dust free when being kicked around by active kittens.

However, it works like a charm. Everything clumps up hard and once the kittens cover up, the smell is gone pretty quickly as well. For a house with smaller spaces (and less cats), this would be something to really think about using. Mom liked the effectiveness....but it is a bit out of our price range for every day usage.

  1. We're always looking for a better litter. It seems like the ones that clump the best track everywhere ... so it's a game of choosing based on what matters most. You're right about this being a bit pricey - but we might try it anyway :)

  2. I've found a very good cat-litter that I'll stick with: The World's Best Cat Litter. Aside from the enormously egotistical name, it is very good: very little dust, even when poured, it clumps very well and is organic (made from corn), so it can be flushed down the toilet if need be, and if thrown out, it will decay eventually. It is pricey, too: $45 for 28 pounds (Canadian price), but worth it.

    1. I love Worlds Best Cat litter too! If you don't mind a little frustration for a good savings, you may want to try Chicken food! Baby Chicken CRUMBLES is so darn close to Worlds Best, but in the states I pay $18 for 50 pounds. The only problems I have with it are the crumbles are a little bigger than Worlds Best, so you have to get a scooper that has a little bit bigger holes, and it doesn't make super tight clumps. But I can guarantee you'll also never need a chisel to get it off the bottom of the litter box :)

  3. Love to read cat litter reviews...they usually make me glad for the litter we use! BUT! I just found out that Chewy.com has our litter that I thought was only available at Pet Supplies Plus, and the price is GREAT! Poor FedEx delivery person, on my next order!

  4. Great review. It is too pricey for my house with 13 cats though.

  5. We didn't pick the litter this month for review. We're glad you did such a great review. Mommy tries to avoid dusty litter because it makes me sneezy and stuffy.

  6. That was a great review. I guess it is hard to find a litter that is dust free which is understandable. Out of our price range too.

  7. So far, my human hasn't found anything she likes better than World's Best and Almost Invisible cat litter. She doesn't use clay because she does not think it is environmentally friendly.

  10. This looks like an interesting litter...we might try it. We've been using Dr. Elsey's for a number of years and this sounds like it's very similar. We don't find the Dr. Elsey's to be very dusty, but then the mom usually pours it slowly so that it doesn't kick up a lot of dust. Thanks for the review.

  11. Thank you for the review! I can for sure see the free trial does not influence your report, very cool. I have used a few big bags of Dr. Elseys's because it said 99% dust free... I wonder how they come to that calculation?! It's pretty dusty in my book. I commented above, that I have been using baby chicken crumbles (not crumbles of baby chickens... it's food for baby chickens) :) Non medicated, and no extra calcium added (chickens need calcium to produce good eggs). You need a scooper with bigger holes than most of the scoopers (they're out there!), but it's quite economical. 50 lbs for $18 at our local feed store. It doesn't clump super hard, but it's so close to Worlds Best Cat Litter, I just try not to scoop right away, it firms up over a little bit of time. I suppose you also have to live in a more rural area to have a feed store around...
