Pet Bloggers Journey

Another blogger has challenged others and mom decided we need to participate:

Except maybe Ivy

1. When did you begin your blog and what do you currently write about?

August 10, 2009. We write about fostering kittens, my cats, rescue, education and cats. Ha

2. Name one thing about your blog or one blogging goal accomplished during 2020.

Mom had a job change in November 2019 so the goal was just to try to keep post in 2020. We had to cut back from every day but managed to keep posting as often as I could.

3. Which 2020 post was most popular? Why do you think it does so well?

A post about Chanel and Goldfish - and no idea why it got the most views.

4. Biggest blogging challenge in 2020 and how you tackled it.

2020 was just weird. It was hard to try to focus on being positive about posting and kittens when the real world was experiencing so many negative things. It helped to remember that people were following us and reading as an escape.

5. One thing you learned in 2020 that can help other bloggers.

Do what you can. And know that everyone is frustrating with the changes to readership and technology. Focus on what you know and what you feel you can contribute.

6. Top three goals for 2021.

Get back to a regular schedule.

7. In a perfect world, where do you see yourself and the blog in one year?

Honestly, doing the same thing. We never got into this for money or fame or anything like that. For us it is about tracking the kittens that come through here, our personal stories and spreading the word about rescue.

8. If you have $1,000 to spend on your blog, how would you spend it?

Actually, mom would love to spend it on my foster room. So much of what we write about goes on in there and the room could work so much better.

9. What is one skill you would like to learn or improve?

No doubt there is much to learn about SEO and increasing readership and followers.

10. If you could ask the pet blogging community for help with one challenge you're having with your blog, what would it be?

That's tough. We love being part of this community and we know we can always reach out to fellow bloggers with issues.

  1. As if we'd spend $ on the blog...we'd spend it on our kitties!
As much as I adore the blogging community, and posting about fun stuff...I've got to remain employed; that was the main goal of 2020 (and it was nip and tuck there!), and the same for 2021.
But I must thank you for all you do for the cats in your community! Hats off to you!

  8. 2020 was a weird year for us too. We're looking forward to a better more social 2021. If you're looking to learn more about SEO and increase readership one simple approach I take is to answer my readers common questions in a detailed manner applying my own experiences. All the best to you in 2021!

  9. First I have to thank you so much for what you do!! I myself have a huge place in my heart for feral cats and have been an advocate for them for over 10 years now in our community. I can see your love for these cats in your posts. I really enjoyed your website as I took a tour around it. I love how positive you have been navigating throughout the pandemic and the love you have for these cats. As for you goal this year on learning more about SEO don't let it scare you. I started out picking away at things until I was able to see the increase. I did a few free courses on Udemy to get me started and it went from there. We all want traffic and I think its a big challenge for many of us. With a good SEO it will allow you to get a steady flow of fee traffic and worth working on. Keep up the fantastic work! Wishing you health and prosperity this coming year!

  10. That was interesting. I would spend the $1000 on the kitties too. The blog doesn't need the money.

  11. Thank you for all you do for the kitties. I wish you all the success. If you learn about SEO, you can pass the info along cos it's all Greek to us.

  12. Love the idea that you would spend $1,000 on a foster room for your kitties. That is refreshing to hear. 2020 must have been difficult for shelters and fosters, as well. Someday, I will foster, but not right now. I lost my Siamese sweetheart in April, and that plus the sheltering at home made it a very difficult year. Keep up your great work and I hope you can help many, many kitties. Purrs.

  13. I agree 100% you do what you can. People think they need to be everywhere and do everything but you don't need to - you do what you love and what you can.

  15. As someone who grew up in a home that fostered cats, I totally understand why you would want to put the money into a foster room! I'll admit, I'm guilty of purchasing additional things for the foster room at my mother's house.

We foster here occasionally, however, with the nature of what we do it's better to stick to a more basic room. We take on short term medical fosters - giving cats a place to recoup and recover after surgery and injuries. I work from home, so I know that I can provide the necessary supervision that these cats need. Once they have recovered, they move on to another foster home and our room is open for the next cat in need of our care.

  16. Thank you for the important work you do for rescue cats. My family rescued a few cats when we were kids, but there are always so many more that need help.

Also thank you for sharing your journey.

Best of luck to you and your rescues in 2021.

  17. We agree 2020 was sooooo weird. I felt like I was living in an alternative universe. I am sure it was so hard on all of us. I am grateful to know you and follow your job. You do so much for cats and keep up the great work!

  18. Happy New Year! Thank you for sharing your journey. I agree that 2020 was a tough year. I lost friends, I saw so much fighting and negativity, and I lost one of my dogs. It was tough to continue going on and, strangely, it feels comforting to know that I'm not the only one who struggled with the negativity. I often wonder if because we love animals so much, we're sensitive to energy, both positive and negative.

    Have a lovely 2021.
