Remember me Thursday.....

The Helen Woodward Animal Center has started a movement.

Today they want everyone to light a candle to save a life. Remember Me Thursday

Over 3 million pets each year go into shelters and don't come out alive. Mom used to volunteer with an organization that would euthanize (and she hates using that word for this purpose) for space. It was that among other things that caused her to leave.

The rescue we work with now is no-kill. They will take those that other shelters would put down. Their main expense: vet bills. And as much as we would love to be "out of business"....it won't happen until people spay/neuter and choose to adopt rather than buy.

There is a virtual candle gallery going today.

If you are on facebook or twitter they are using #LightForPets

  1. Such a good idea to light a candle, plus if we could just get the word out about spaying and neutering. Take care.

  3. Not to mention all of the people who think it's OK to just dump a cat because "it can catch mice and stuff" to eat. I will never understand some people's mindsets but then you see how they treat their children....

    1. one winter mom found a himilayan and persian "couple" in our neighborhood that someone dumped. it was just that much more sad....no way could those two fend for themselves (they were rescued and since been adopted)

  8. I think spaying and neutering is a no-brainer. I don't get why so many humans don't do it. I meant, have their cats done. I just realized how that sounded, MOL!

  9. We lit our candle for all the differently-abled cats who have been killed simply because they were mislabeled "less adoptable" - which after being owned by Maxwell for the past 3 years, we simply do NOT get.

  10. We feel like we're following Maxwell, Faraday, and Allie around blog comments and saying, "Us, too!" We are thinking of all of the cats like our Ashton who weren't "perfect" and were euthanized because for lack of marketability without being given a chance.

  11. Its so sad we need days like this to remind everyone about millions of lives lost for no reason. Such a waste!

  12. We lit a candle for all those shelter cats that weren't lucky enough to find forever homes. So sad.

  13. Until they all have homes and security and love. Momma remembers those lost every night when we get ready for bed and send our prayers to the Universe. Two of our WDA were within hours of their end, so we feel the pain personally trying to imagine our pack without Quinn or Taiko.
