Thankful Thursday.....

Today we are thankful for people who step up and do the right thing - without wanting applause or thanks or payment or whatever.

Once upon a time in the spring, a social worker was called to help a little girl in a family that wasn't treating her very well. The social worker decided that the little girl (about 8 years old) could no longer live with her family and be safe. But the little girl was distraught - she did not want to leave her kitty behind. The social worker understood the situation and also knew the statistics: animals in homes of abusers tend to be abused and can also be used a leverage against the people in the home.

The social worker made some phone calls. And a local rescue stepped up and said they would take the kitty. So the social worker packed up the little girl and together they packed up the kitty. The little girl wrote a letter to the rescue - "please take care of my kitty, she is very nice and likes her ears scratched, she has never been mean to anyone unless they were mean to her". The social worker took the little girl with her to drop off the kitty so the little girl could be reassured that the kitty would be safe.

That was in April. Banyon came into the rescue with cigarette burns on her neck and very thin. Heaven only knows what she went through, but we know she brought that little girl some sense of security. Banyon is now ready and looking for her new forever home.....maybe with another little girl she can love.

We may never know the ending of the story of the little girl and we can't applaud the social worker in person, but we can pay it forward.....

Mom took Banyon to Petco on Sunday - so far she has charmed everyone who has met her. She is tiny but has the voice of a lion.

  5. This makes me so sad, that there are people that would hurt little girls and kitties.
Our prayers go with the child and the kit. Karma will take care of the others.

  11. I am very thankful to this social worker too for rescuing both the little girl AND her kitty, because that kitty clearly needed rescuing just as much. And the little girl will grow up knowing that her kitty was able to have a better life because of the social worker's actions - and I think that counts a lot for the person she will grow up to be.

  14. Poor Banyon and the poor girl. Cruelty has nothing to do with the target; it's an attitude, like hatred and prejudice and all the other evil in the world. A person who would be cruel to an animal would be cruel to a human, and vice versa. It's good to read that both girl and cat were given chances at better lives.

  15. Some people are a$$holes. I'm sorry for the language but abuse children and to abuse animals is as wrong as it gets.

  17. We're so grateful to the social worker for saving both the little girl and Banyon. We pray that Banyon is able to find a new forever home where she's loved and that the little girl feels safe and is loved where she is now.
Why people hurt other people (and animals) is beyond me.

  20. that's a great story. I was hoping it would have ended with the girl somehow getting to take the kitty with her, how awesome would that be. Her security kitty going with her wherever she goes. But the ending of kitty and girl getting away from the abusers is super good!

  21. Thank goodness for the goodness of some people. For the the little girl who wanted to protect the kitty she loves, for the social worker with a heart, for those who took both of these little ones in. I hope Banyon finds her forever home very soon, and knows nothing but love and care until the end of her life.
