Thankful Thursday

Mom is very thankful that our v-e-t comes to the house - and we are thankful we don't get shoved in the PTU. Also, when our previous vet clinic was bought out, mom was told that she would not be allowed to bring us more than 3 at a time....great.....

Hannah and Lucy asked about the cost and it is actually comparable to an office vet. The only difference is her travel charge, but she tries to schedule in similar areas at the same time to split that among several clients. Though mom thinks some of us (MO) might behave better in an office, it isn't worth the stress of shoving everyone in carriers (and having us pop back out get shoved back in etc), dragging the carriers to the car and waiting in an office with several cats singing the "let me outta here" song.

Mom is also thankful that Silver is....peeing in the box!!!  Mom and Silver did the potty dance the other night. Mom was getting ready for bed, Marble was eating and Silver was goofing off. Then she got in the box, scratched some - and ate the litter (which is why you use clay litter until you are really sure about kittens - the clumping stuff swells up). Then she chewed on the box (mom uses a small cardboard box that the cans of kitten food come in since she buys in bulk). Then she squatted down. Got out of the box and assumed the position. Mom put her back in. She got back out. In, out, in, out. There are no pictures or video - honestly since it went on for a couple of minutes, it got a little boring....  However, in the end, mom won, Silver peed and we are one step closer to independent kitten!!

Marble can't wait for the day she gets to post a thankful thursday that the kit is EATING on her own (which she may be doing now but mom has yet to catch her in the act and she has caught her still nursing).

But, here is what we are REALLY thankful for. See, after Tommy's 2010 adventure mom has only opened the windows a crack. That head alpha mancat screwed it up for the rest of us. Mom thought she had a solution - she remembered these inserts that her grandparents used to use in their windows in the summer. She looked around but couldn't find anything. She was going to resort to asking grandpa to make her something, when Miss DeLynn bought her a birthday present:

They fit in the front of the window. So, no more sleeping in the window sills, but at least the windows are open more than a couple of inches. They were at a local small hardware store (another good reason to avoid those big box stores). Mom wants to get a couple more for other windows!!

  1. I used to use those same type of window screens when I lived in Philly. I had some of those old windows that didn't have screens in them! Those are awesome!

Hurray for kitten pee in the box! I'd dance too! :)

  2. Three cheers for Marble peeing in the box - we did MOL about the in, out, in, out before she did. We're glad you got your windows sorted out so you can get a breath of fresh air.
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx

  3. Wow, I just read about Tommy's adventure - sounds scary! So glad he was quickly found. The sliding screens sounds like a good idea to keep kitties from escaping, just need to make sure the windows are down nice and snug on the screens.

The traveling vet sounds wonderful! We looked into one of those long ago when it was near time to assist Max over the bridge. Our vet doesn't do house calls, even though I literally live 75 feet from their door and we didn't want to traumatize Max in his last moments but sadly, we ended up traumatizing him in his last moments after all.

  4. Silver, you really are too darn cute. The story about the potty help from your foster mom is hysterical. Glad you figured out that part of life.
You deals in the windows look great. Are they like screens?? Have a good one.

  5. I remember those screen also when I was in the Philly area! (one of your commenters said something about Philly) Those windows were the old fashioned kind with no screens and you're right. Hometown hardware os THE best place to be and the service is excellent too. xoxoxo

  6. We have vet in our area who does in home visits too. I've been thinking about using her since the carrier-collapse incident back in January!

  8. Yeah for those window inserts! That's great that you'll be able to get nice, fresh air for sniffing. Sniffing season is already here, I think.

I really don't know how I'd feel 'bout my doctor coming into my house but... I really HATE going to see her at her place so I guess it's quite a good idea. You're quite lucky to have a visiting vet, I think. Come to think of it, my doctor goes to visit horses and cows at their houses so... hey! what's wrong with her coming to see me at mine?

  10. Good job, Silver!

That's cool that the v-e-t comes to your house. We do not like travelling in the car, and after each v-e-t visit we hide from mum for about a week afterwards whenever she puts on clothes and shoes to go out!

  14. It makes total sense to get the vet to come to you! We're very glad that's an option for you!

  15. So lucky that the vet can come to you! Wish that was more available as an option!

  16. Don't we wish the vet could come to us! Concats to Silver on the litterbox! Way to go!

  17. I would think that having the vet come to you is a lot less stressful for everyone. I only have three cats but it is a chore to take them, and I have to drive 18 miles listening to the most awful sound known to man.

  18. Wehave those same sliding screens because Miss Puff likes to follow Dad EVERYWHERE and if sh cannot go out the door with him she looks for other routes!

A travelling vet sounds great. If we didn't love Dr. Julia so much we might look around to find one...lots of advantages when you have an Army!
