Mom found that Firefly passed away some time in the very early hours of Saturday morning. He had been fairly active and ate dinner the night before. But he had been having some intestinal issues and while he had been treated for parasites once and was being treated again, that could very well have been the issue. Part of being in rescue is that some days you will just never know the reason.
Some people say they couldn't foster since giving them back would be so hard. While it is difficult, having a kitten die in your care is definitely the hardest part. No matter how long you have them, they own a piece of your heart and that part breaks when they pass away. It can be expected or unexpected, doesn't matter. But part of being a good care giver is knowing it may happen and allowing yourself to grieve if it does. None of us are perfect and sometimes are best efforts just can't save them.
Firefly was a sweet boy found in a parking lot of a convenience store. We have no idea how he got there. We have no idea what happened to his mom or any siblings. What we do know is that he was found, came into rescue, came to us to foster and was loved for the time he was here. We certainly wish the outcome had been different though.
