Pet Blogger Challenge

When did you begin your blog? And, for anyone stopping by for the first time, please give us a quick description of what your blog is about.
August 2009. Holy Heck....over 10 years!! We talk about us, foster kittens, rescue, cat issues, and did we mention kittens.

Name one thing about your blog, or one blogging goal that you accomplished during 2019, that made you most proud.
I always love teaching someone something or helping educate. I've posted more "teachable" moments this year.

Which of your 2019 blog posts was your favorite and why? (Please include a link.)
I posted an interview with my pet sitter about how they handle emergencies.

What was the biggest blogging challenge you faced in 2019, and how did you tackle it?
Time. I had to change jobs and lost a good deal of "free" time to post. I haven't solved the problem but I'm trying to be more consistent.

One goal that we all seem to share is we want to reach more people. What is your #1 tip for bringing more traffic to your blog?
I have yet to figure this out.

Do you do sponsored posts/reviews? If so, what do you find works best and how do you determine what to charge for a blog post, social media shares, etc.? If not, is this something you’d like to do more of? What hurdle is getting in your way?
I used to but don't anymore. It wasn't drawing any traffic and honestly I felt like it was distracting from other things.

Looking forward to 2020, if you accomplish only one thing through your blog, what do you hope it is?
I'd like to increase followers. I'd also like to post a few more educational posts.

The blogging landscape is constantly changing. What changes in blogging do you see coming in 2020 and beyond? What plans do you have to evolve?
Honestly, I'm not sure. I've seen a decrease in interest and I'm not sure how to turn that around.

If you could ask the pet blogging community for help with one challenge you’re having with your blog, what would it be?
   Traffic...

  1. it is sad how things are changing.. adapt or die.. but the question is, adapt to what? I don't like the idea of social media exclusively but others are having great success with that.

    Congrats on the blogoversary

  2. Well we will keep coming by as we think you really have a good blog and we are interested in the rescue community. Maybe some more kitty interest stories as your educational is on track. We would like more traffic too and think that being on other venues like FB, Twitter and Pinterest may help but are lax in posting there.

  3. photo one is priceless !! I think overall, blogging as a whole is "passe" for lack
of a better word; people don't stop by to read or comment; fewer do as months go on, there are less people actually posting and many haven't been here in months. I feel this is true for the entire blogging community. word on the streets as da tabbies say is, everyone's jumped shipped for instagram ???

  4. 10 years is quite an accomplishment!!! Our great brothers and sisters started our blog back in 2006. At least once a week, our mom considers stopping. So far, we've out-voted her.
    Cammie!

  7. I agree with just about everything, including 2009--I started in February 2009! Con-cat-ulations on your blogoversary, and all the wonderful things you do for cats!

I've been sharing my writing and artwork and other creative efforts for about 25 years one way or another, whether on paper to a snail mail list or emails from my evolving website over the years. It's always helped me plow my way through my constant onslaught of creative ideas, so even though I don't have too many visitors I'll just keep posting stuff.

    1. agree - I started doing this as a journal and joked I posted to avoid talking to myself. so readers are a bonus :)

  8. I started in August of 2010. I write about my cats, initially three, then four, then five, then six, then five again, then six... I can't say I did anything in 2019 on my blog that made me proud, but I did write more entries than in any previous year. My biggest challenge is finding time to read all the other blogs I like so much. (I usually do it at work. Don't tell anyone.) I'm pretty satisfied with my blog, though I wouldn't mind more readers at my movie-review blog. Frankly, I don't know why you are suffering a decrease in interest. I always like to come by and see what's new, especially when kittens are involved...

  9. Congratulations on reaching 10 years of blogging! So, much has changed over the years. As far as traffic goes, creating Pinterest ready images and learning about SEO have helped build the readership on my blog. Thanks for participating in the Pet Bloggers Journey! All the best to you in 2020!

  10. Over 10 years, wow! That is awesome that you're still blogging. I think traffic might be most people's issues.

  11. 10 years? Congratulations! That's awesome. I have the same traffic challenge. One thing that might help is that your site comes up as not secure. It probably doesn't show up in search as much as before.

  12. I'm no example. But my take on the traffic issue ... 1) blog hops get your foot in the door, 2) visit visit visit! I know the return on visits is low. I comment on roughly 65 blogs twice a week and I'm lucky to get 10 back out of that.

  13. I feel you on the traffic issue. People insist it's SEO but I wonder, relevant blogs like yours should hit a sweet spot with kitten lovers and those in need of information. How Google and Jetpack get such widely differing figures baffles me. I am not a fan of Google......

  14. Congratulations on reaching 10 years of blogging! I've learned a lot from you and hope you'll continue to blog for many more years.

I'm no help when it comes to traffic. If I remember correctly I found your blog through the "next blog" option that blogspot used to offer but doesn't do so now. Or maybe I found it through some one else's blog.
