The military and police stations across the country employed thousands of dogs to help serve our country. Today is a day to remember their service. From bomb sniffing dogs to protection to man trackers, these dogs go out every day to help people and to protect their fellow officers. Unfortunately, we hear stories about how these dogs (mostly military from what we understand) are treated as commodities and we hope someday that this practice ends. However, you also hear the happy endings of dogs coming back from war zones and being reunited with their handlers - to the joy of everyone.
Police dogs put their lives at risk every day to protect our communities and their partners. There is body armor out there, but some communities can't afford it. Vest-A-Dog is one non profit that provide body armor for these dogs serving in our neighborhoods.
So please take a moment today to remember those that have given their lives....and those that are on the front lines protecting their fellow soldiers and officers.

For some added cute, check out this puppy in training to be a K-9 officer (and see a picture of him all grown up too).

My human really does not get how these dogs can be used like "things," as often happens in the military. She hopes this practice ends too.
