Guess what???

Well three things:

 

 Carling got ADOPTED

her new dad is a second year vet student 

with no other pets (yet)

  

Kilkenny got ADOPTED

his new mom plans to spoil him rotten

The third thing - mom is sure she is cursed. The new floors were supposed to go in yesterday. Mom got all the cats locked in the back bedroom using canned food as a treat. She had everything moved into her room and the kitchen and the hall. And the installer had some issues....it is a long story and mom got pissed and they will get done, but the company couldn't get anyone out until today. Cross your fingers and paws.

On Sunday, after waiting patiently, Marzen was adopted and went home!!!

It was seriously chilly here and it SNOWED!! Chanel spent a better part of Saturday evening watching the local snow plow clearing out our condo driveways. Mom went out Saturday morning but then came home and spent the rest of the day here.

Sunday she ran out, got to kiss Marzen and Kilkenny (who is still at the store and waiting for his time to come), cleaned at another partner store and then came home to watch basketball and yell at the TV. Nothing too exciting, but that is OK.

However, mom was out on Friday night at a fundraiser to help with TNR efforts. A local artists location opens up and they sell art and allow the rescue to sell cat stuff and the money goes to TNR funds. Mom was upstairs with the adoptable cats they brought. In face, the orange and white kitten named Hero was adopted by someone who met him that night.

Did you see the news on Facebook?? Mike was adopted on Monday!! He went to a family with 4 (!!) kids who are going to spoil him rotten and he will love it! We already got a brief update and he is fitting in like he has been there the entire time.

Thanks for reading and commenting on our year end reviews. It takes a while for it to be put together but we like going back and seeing everything from a year end perspective.

For those keeping count, we had 3 momma cats this year, 23 fosters total for the year - 8 female, 15 male. Which brought our total foster count to 321. We have 4 still available for adoption: Kilkenny and Marzen, along with Carling and Delphi.

Since we are headed into winter here in the mid-west, it may be a while until we have kittens again. Mom needs to clean up the foster room and get everything reset anyhow. And then again, sometimes you just never know what will pop up along the way.

Year in Review 2018 - part 2

JULY
In some not good news, Cilantro passed away ... and so did Clove and Chicory ...

We did get a new toy called Sheer Fun for Cats and love it still

Junior got caught and his teeth were cleaned

A new spice kitten that we named Annatto joined the foster room

Annatto thought he was tough and was quickly nicknamed Catzilla

Chive and Caraway were both neutered and were going to head up to the adoption center to find their new families except the cages were full so they stuck around for a while longer.


AUGUST
Mom decided it was time to interview a potential new kitten raiser to help socialize, so she brought home Soda...a big FIV+ boy to live in the kitten room.

Plus with the spice boys gone to the adoption center, mom brought home a new tuxedo kitten to keep Annatto and Soda company.....introducing Goldfish (yes, THAT Goldfish)

Mom discovered Soda under the bed one night and kittens running all over and had to install a chain lock on the foster room door since Soda figured out how to open the door.

A certain kitten finally weighed over 2 pounds...and Soda continued on the interview process.

Chanel had her annual vet visit and vaccines, Goldfish was tested and Annatto was retested. Goldfish was negative and upon this retest, so was Annatto.

Soda continued on interviewing, Cardamom was ADOPTED, and Daiquiri tried to give mom a heart attack.

SEPTEMBER
In a change of plans, mom decided to take Soda back up to the adoption center. She came back with a mom and kittens that had been left in a carrier outside the rescue.

Annatto was ADOPTED and the new group of kittens got names - welcome the World Beer Kittens.

Mom had a crisis of conscience and Carling (the momma to the world beer kittens) got moved away from the kittens and into a crate in our living room.

Goldfish was still with us working on her social skills and Carling moved to a partner store.

The kittens got a paper bag to play with and found it to their liking.

We did have to share some sad news when Harp and Kirin suddenly passed away. The rest of the kittens weren't doing very well either but got meds and fluids and lots of purrs.

Fortunately the remaining 4 kittens turned the corner and got better.

OCTOBER
What's UP???

We did an update on the kittens and their changing personalities.

The kittens rediscovered the paper bag.

Oh - and we discovered that Goldfish had a home all along....with us.

NOVEMBER
Lots of kitten pictures and more kitten pictures

We met the Comfort Zone people at Blog Paws and got a chance to review their plug ins

We talked about the growing relationship between Goldfish and Chanel

And more kittens

A couple of supporters sent treats and toys and treat bags were made for all adoptions in December

Plus Chanel met Santa Claus

DECEMBER
Guinness went to an adoption event and some of the other kittens were placed at partner stores

The smaller kittens were spayed and neutered and moved to a partner store - and we got to meet Mike

Mom put together the ski chalet from last year and Chanel moved right in

Ivy celebrated 10 years with us and Mike met Santa

Daiquiri celebrated 4 years with us

Random Fridays

You know, for all the name calling and HBO words that happened when Mike first came to join us, those little monkeys got busted the other day. They really do seem to like each other.

Mom was on Instagram the other day and saw that the Kitty Kasas were having a sale. We already had one in the foster room and one in the living room. The adults here tend to ignore that one, but the kittens were using the one in the foster room. Since they are SUPER easy to clean, mom decided to get another bedroom and also a penthouse (the bed on top). Mom had to put Mike and Kilkenny up there at first, but she has checked the camera several times in the last couple of days and they are both up there snuggled together (though how they both fit without someone falling off is a mystery). 

Also as an FYI, the boys are healthy and ready to go. Mike's cold has cleared up. Kilkenny's eye scarred, but it is no longer swollen and red. Which means....off they go to a partner store tomorrow.

Happy 10th Gotcha Day to Ivy

Mom took Mike to visit Santa Claws. We are sure he asked for a forever home for himself and all the other homeless kitties out there. He was VERY well behaved and even walked around on the leash some.

Mom found the ski chalet we got last year that wasn't assembled as we got it really close to Christmas and we had our log cabin already up in the living room.

Kilkenny was out in the house on Saturday and decided he liked the chalet. Until a certain mid sized tuxedo cat wandered by and decided that she needed to have it.

Peroni, Balashi, and Guinness all went to a partner store on Saturday. Peroni and Guinness moved right in with no problems. Balashi hid in part of the cage. They are back with Marzen. He wasn't too sure about those "new" cats in his cage, but everyone settled in pretty quickly. He did hiss at Peroni who promptly popped him on the head. That's our girl.

Cross your fingers and paws for quick adoptions. We will keep you posted.

Of course, with the little kittens gone, this left Kilkenny in the foster room by himself. After listening to him sing a very loud and off-key version of the "I am lonely" song, mom gave up and let him out. He wasn't too sure about things at first but given a couple of hours, he settled right in and was having a blast with Chanel and Goldfish.

The problem is that he is supposed to be getting eye meds 3-4 times per day. He is a little skittish (and even more so with mom with being medicated) so catching him out in the condo was becoming and adventure. Mom just doesn't have the time to chase him around for 10 minutes that often just to put drops in his eyes.

So.....meet Mike. Named after mom's favorite drink in a bottle.

He is about 4 months old which makes him the same age as Kilkenny. He was brought in to the shelter after being found. He was neutered, vaccinated and all ready to go....when he got a pretty nasty cold. Mom agreed to bring him here. He has been on meds for a few days, so she isn't too worried about Kilkenny catching anything. Mike is super sweet and lovey.

That said, mom had to catch Kilkenny to put him back in the room. He also knows way more cat swear words than mom was originally aware...and has been using all of them on poor Mike. Luckily Mike isn't doing anything to retaliate, so for most of Sunday afternoon it was just a standoff with Mike going about his business and Kilkenny being a drama queen.

Random Fridays

OK - so it isn't a great picture since the flash went off in the middle of the TV screen. But.... mom was watching a special on national parks last weekend and Daiquiri was fascinated by the one on the Smokey Mountains.

Kilkenny's eye looks MUCH better. Trust us. The meds seems to be working, so with any luck he won't end up a pirate cat. The goal is to keep using the drops until it clears up. The suspicion is that he may forever have a corneal scar, but better that than the alternative. We will keep you posted.

Mom took the other 3 kittens on Thursday morning to be spayed/neutered. You should have HEARD Kilkenny howl from the kitten room. Oh he was pitiful.

So yep - that means the kittens are ready to go. Mom thinks there may be space over at the store where Marzen is currently hanging out, so they may end up over there. If that is the case, mom is going to have to hunt down a friend for Kilkenny. She doesn't really want to let him loose in the house since he has to be medicated 3-4 times per day. But no one wants to listen to the "I'm lonely" howl for very long either. 

Weekend Report

With Kilkenny at our house for a while (his eye looks much better even after a couple of days of medication), Marzen seemed lonely in a cage by himself. Mom was at the store for an event on Sunday and they decided to move him to a lower cage that already has a pair of kittens in it. This set was a group of 4 kittens and 2 of them have already been adopted. There was some minor hissing, but nothing serious and everyone seemed fine by the time mom left the store. 

Mom took Guinness with her to the adoption event. He was not a fan of putting ON the harness but didn't mind once it was on. Mom posted to social media that apparently it is a good magic trick - one harness can turn a kitten into an octopus. This picture just made her laugh. No idea what startled him but he was making quite the face.

And of course adoption events are just exhausting....

It actually was pretty nice here over the weekend so mom cracked the windows on Sunday. The 3 smaller kittens are scheduled for spay/neuter surgery on Thursday, so they should be ready to go shortly after that. Not sure when Kilkenny will be ready to go back to a store or up to the adoption center...depends on how his eye continues to progress.
