Newbie

 It seems to be the summer of single kittens. Mom is willing to take the risk of mixing litters so she is taking the singles that need a space.

If you remember Carsen that we lost, meet his brother Cameron.

The trapper working in that trailer park found him about a week after Carsen passed away. She kept him for a while but he joined us on Monday so he can socialize and learn some cat skills.

He has met all the other cats. He isn't very sure about himself yet so he has been sitting back and watching the action for the past couple of days.

Brigid clearly took offense to another black cat in the foster room when he first showed up.

Brigid will be going back to the rescue this week since her spay incision looks much better. Gordon will be neutered in the next couple of weeks. Miss Spicy is doing better. She is still hand shy if mom reaches to grab her but she warms up quickly once she's caught. In fact on Monday she wiggled out of the towel and curled up on her own and took a nap on mom while purring. AWWW

Cameron is very sweet and wants to play though he hasn't had other cat exposure of his own size so he's trying to figure the whole thing out. We doubt it will take very long before he is running around with everyone else.

The little girls continue to do well but are behind the panels for now until they grow some.

Changes

 Well, most of the Celtic Kittens went to the adoption center on Saturday. Danu's spay site was swollen so she stayed here and has a vet appointment this morning.

The foster room got cleaned and reset. Gordon is now in there and the bigger Tespo panels were made into a cube for a pair of little girls.

Plus there is this:

Meet Spicy. Yes, based on her current personality. An adopter from the reacue foubd her. She's probably about 6 weeks old and very not sure about anything. However, mom has seen her on the cameras playing and trying to interact with Gordon.

We've delayed a little bit introducing the little girls. They were crated while mom kept a close eyeon them to make sure they are eating and doing ok. They were a hot mess since they ate just old enough to figure things out without a mom. Which means Sunday they got a bath;

Both brown tabby, both girls,one short hair one medium. Still deciding on names.

surprise

Fate wants to know what is in the box

Mom had taken a vacation day this past Monday. About 10am she got a text from another rescue volunteer asking if just maybe she had some time. Seems someone left a fuzzy nugget in a box outside one of our partner stores and they needed someone to come get her.

Mom drove over. The original text said the kitten was covered in fleas and smelled like smoke. Turns out the fleas weren't bad, but she did smell like smoke and was pretty filthy.

Wait - you are going to do WHAT to me in here??

Sorry kid - but you are MUCH cleaner now

She is set up in the crate in the living room. The bug kittens are ready to go back to the rescue and are WAY bigger than her anyhow. She is friendly but has no idea how to play so we may look into finding her some friends. Either way, she is clean, eating, vaccinated and tested. And safe....

What mom thought was a little hilarious is how much she looks like another kitten we had a couple of years ago:
Yep - the kitten above is Dior - now Cupcake. Even down to the spot on her back. Mom and Miss Julie were messaging back and forth and Miss Julie said "the last thing the world needs is another bathroom gargoyle." Mom laughed until she wheezed.....and guess what the new baby's name will be. MOL

one of these things

First, Roomba was spayed on Thursday. The head of the rescue dropped her off at the clinic with other kittens and mom did the pick up. In the Escape was Roomba, 4 other carriers and a live trap with a feral boy that had been neutered. Makes mom glad she got the bigger car.

Roomba was going to go up to the adoption center on Saturday but we have a TON of kittens and the cages are full. Mom put her up on the website and will take her to the kitten shower next weekend (or to the center sooner if space opens up) and she will hopefully find her forever home quickly. The rescue has lots of available kittens - as does every other rescue out there.
~~~~~~~~~~~
As with every rescue out there, we are up to our eyeballs in cats and kittens. Our director finally had to say we can't do intake for a few days unless it is an emergency due to lack of space and foster homes.
Some rescues and fosters won't mix litters. We absolutely respect and understand that. Our rescue will and mom is OK with it once kittens are tested and have a vaccine on board.
That said, a single kitten came in mid week and mom agreed to take him home on Saturday morning. He was a little scared when he came in so it will benefit him to be with other kittens that are super friendly. Someone found him in the exhaust pipe of a car and brought him to the rescue. He is about the size of Fate and skittish. He has hissed at mom a couple of times but she catches him and loves on him and the last time he relaxed and purred for her so we have no doubts he will be fine.
Meet Mopar
friends already - Mopar and Fate
Ciper and Roomba do tend to treat the little kittens like cat toys. Fortunately they also like the beat the daylights out of each other. Fate seems to take them both in stride but Mopar isn't really sure what to do with the two bigger kittens right now.
Oh and as for the title of today: we had originally anticipated getting more black kittens (sensing a theme here) but another foster home opened up on Friday and they went to that home. So we now have - one of these things is not like the others. MOL
weekend report
Peroni, Balashi, and Guinness all went to a partner store on Saturday. Peroni and Guinness moved right in with no problems. Balashi hid in part of the cage. They are back with Marzen. He wasn't too sure about those "new" cats in his cage, but everyone settled in pretty quickly. He did hiss at Peroni who promptly popped him on the head. That's our girl.
Cross your fingers and paws for quick adoptions. We will keep you posted.
Of course, with the little kittens gone, this left Kilkenny in the foster room by himself. After listening to him sing a very loud and off-key version of the "I am lonely" song, mom gave up and let him out. He wasn't too sure about things at first but given a couple of hours, he settled right in and was having a blast with Chanel and Goldfish.
The problem is that he is supposed to be getting eye meds 3-4 times per day. He is a little skittish (and even more so with mom with being medicated) so catching him out in the condo was becoming and adventure. Mom just doesn't have the time to chase him around for 10 minutes that often just to put drops in his eyes.
So.....meet Mike. Named after mom's favorite drink in a bottle.
He is about 4 months old which makes him the same age as Kilkenny. He was brought in to the shelter after being found. He was neutered, vaccinated and all ready to go....when he got a pretty nasty cold. Mom agreed to bring him here. He has been on meds for a few days, so she isn't too worried about Kilkenny catching anything. Mike is super sweet and lovey.
That said, mom had to catch Kilkenny to put him back in the room. He also knows way more cat swear words than mom was originally aware...and has been using all of them on poor Mike. Luckily Mike isn't doing anything to retaliate, so for most of Sunday afternoon it was just a standoff with Mike going about his business and Kilkenny being a drama queen.
Random Fridays
surprise
Mom had been kind of on the lookout for a friend for Annatto. Soda is a nice guy and all, but he isn't quite too....playful shall we say.
Turns out the director of the rescue was fostering this little girl who needs some social skills. She was trapped and then taken to another shelter who said she was too feral and to put her down. Word finally got back to our rescue and the response was "give us the *beep* kitten".
She is very scared and hissy, but she will get over it pretty quickly we suspect. She and Annatto were fine Wednesday night and then mom heard them Thursday morning calling each other names. We suspect the new girl just hasn't quite figured out how to communicate....and it doesn't help she is talking to Annatto who's grasp of "cat" is fuzzy at best.
who me??
Mom was reading a book last weekend and one of the main characters rescued a pair of kittens and his niece named them Peanut and Goldfish. That made mom laugh, so our little tuxedo girl shall henceforth be known as Goldfish.
~~~~~~~~~~

In other news, Soda got out of the foster room on Wednesday night (followed of course by Annatto - thankfully Goldfish stayed in the room). Mom thinks he made have had outside help as the door shoves toward him. Either way, he got out twice and mom wasn't too happy. Both times Daiquiri got fairly bent out of shape, though she restricted herself to hissing. Poor Soda just did his best to stay out of her way. Mom put another barrier in front of the door and as she is typing this, she checked the cameras and everyone is still where they are supposed to be for now.
~~~~~~~~~~
Oh - you may have noticed this week that we only posted Monday-Wednesday-Friday. We are going to give that a try for a while and see what happens. If something interesting pops up, we may post the other days, but this format allows mom to tell more stories and less seeming to throw something together for the sake of getting something posted.
weekend report
IT WAS HOT!!!
Also this:
What the???
Who the???
Meet Annatto
He was left at a vet's office. They had him for a couple of weeks, but when he tested FIV+, they said he had to go to rescue. So now he is safe with our rescue. Mom saw him on Saturday morning and kitten-napped him. He is maybe 7 weeks old, so he will hang around here for a while and we will have him retested (not that it matters - if the 2nd test comes back positive he will still be available for adoption).
beer kitten update
It has been a weird late summer..... some of us who foster think we are being paid back for making comments about a late kitten season this spring. MOL
Within the last month, several kittens on the adoption floor at the rescue picked up an upper respiratory infection and fosters were asked to step up to take these kittens and medicate them at home. Which is how the patriot kittens came to the house.
The beer boys came as a foster was going out of town and need a place for them to go. At the time it was just Juniper (who was running around the house like she owned it) and the patriot girls. Barley and Hops came to the house at that point.
Now, each rescue/shelter has different policies for foster and each foster home has ways they take in kittens. No way is better or worse....so long as the kittens are well cared for and no one is overwhelmed. For our purposes, we try to make sure that everyone is tested and has at least one vaccine before introductions are made....
Which leads us to a new beer kitten:
Our rescue is lucky in that we have partnered with several pet stores across the city that allow us to have adoptable cats in their stores. The downside is that occasionally (though not as often as one would think), cats mysteriously appear in the store. That happened last week....one of the volunteers for a store got a call from the manager that someone had left a kitten in the store in a box. (sigh....)
That volunteer currently has kittens that have ringworm and didn't want the new kitten exposed to that, so she sent a text asking the head of the rescue if they could make a deal and see if we would take the kitten and name her Wheat....to pair up with the beer kittens. (single kittens can turn into tyrants, so as long as everyone is tested, we try to find friends for singletons). Miss Wheat was tested and vaccinated last week and came to our house on Thursday evening.
The introductions went pretty well. Barley sniffed her and decided she was OK. Hops on the other hand donned his stranger danger suit and bounced around. Which Wheat found amusing. Once he determined she was not to be intimidated, Hops put his suit away and decided to play nice.
what is this strange toy?
no, like dis....
you smell weird and your momma dressed you funny
Wheat weighs less and is probably a little younger than the boys. She tries to keep up, but they play a little rough and she isn't so sure about them sometimes. She was COVERED in fleas when she came in and fortunately had time before we got her for the meds to kick in and kill them. However, she was still a mess and got a bath on Saturday just to clean her up some. We won't ever know her background, but she is super sweet and lovey with the other kittens and people. Her eyes are a little gunky but mom is putting meds in them and it shouldn't be an issue.
*fyi, if you are trying to do kitten math, don't....mom is trying not to think too much about how many kittens are currently in the house  MOL
weekend wrapup
Friday at work mom got a call from another lady named Miss Marilyn who also fosters and volunteers with the rescue. Someone found a kitten in a box. Miss Marilyn had been bottle feeding her but the head of the rescue Miss Mona mentioned that Cass is still nursing kittens.
Friday after work mom picked up another boy she had dropped off to be neutered (gray tabby boy - still trying to catch the white cat). Miss Marilyn brought over the new kitten. Mom got her home and after releasing the new guy, brought her upstairs. Cass was ok with the whole thing, so now there are four  kittens in the bathroom. The new kitten is black, medium length hair and FEISTY!!! She is going to give us a run for our money.
 Daiquiri in the corner, Stoli next to her and then the new baby.
We asked our facebook friends for ideas on a name. We got some great suggestions. The ones we don't use will go on our list for future use. The name that got the most suggestions was: Kahlua. Works for us...the baby does seem to be caffienated. :)
Tangerine went with Sunshine to an adoption event on Saturday. No real interest, but we think Tangerine enjoyed being in a smaller cage with her mommy....she took the opportunity to nurse like a fiend cause Sunshine couldn't get away. Clementine stayed home due to his cold. He is still pretty snotty. Mom took him over to the rescue on Friday and got some fluids into him. He came home and immediately ate. Mom saw him nursing Sunday morning too. Mom doesn't think the clavamox is working, so time to talk to the rescue lady.
We got the windows opened. Mom says Mother Nature must have finally realized is it September (though she is muttering something about the hots coming back on Thursday).
Hope you all had a great weekend.
Random Friday
That new mom cat is now named Jade thanks to our friend Miss Kelly. She is a very happy girl - purring all the time. And she doesn't mind when mom picks up the kitt....who is pretty calm about the who process. :)
~~~~~~~~~~

Want to help us with something???  This little brown dog is Izzo, our woofie cousin that our grandma and grandpa adopted back in February. The shelter said he was a corgi mix. Mom says...maybe, but there is something else in there. He is about 12 inches tall, no idea how long (but pretty long) and weighs about 21 pounds. There is no prize, but we are open to any ideas you may have. MOL

Thankful Thursday....

Today we are thankful for good friends.  :)

The other day mom got a call from our friend Miss Kelly. She asked....  "do you have kittens?"  When mom stopped laughing she said - yep. What's up??

It seems that a friend of Miss Kelly's called and said she had found a sick kitten in her back yard all alone. She brought the kitten inside and was caring for it but didn't know exactly what she was doing. So Miss Kelly gave her some advice and mom filled in the blanks through texts.

Miss Kelly fosters as well but everyone agrees that single kittens aren't a good thing - they are better in groups where they can get experience and social skills. Miss Kelly doesn't currently have fosters, so mom agreed to have the kitten come here.
No name yet. Little girl, short haired gray and white. And....polydactyl. Yep - she has thumbs like Saffron. We would like to stick with the theme, but we are taking suggestions.

She just came into the house last night after getting her "negative" test results. She is vaccinated and in with Basil and Saffron. So far they are checking each other out and it is going well.

We will have more updates for you, but wanted to let you in on the newbie.

we has a tough....

Mom put up baby jail and put the tiny kitts in there for a little bit while she cleaned the bathroom (by the way - Miss Chrystal has left up the chip-in for a few days if you want to throw names in the hat for this crew).

Bourbon came around as well as Duke and then Tim and then Ivy...... as you can see, the kittens acted all tough. Mom was impressed cause while their mom managed to escape from baby jail, she never went very far. And she was pretty good with us. She hissed a couple of times (once cause Tommy hissed at her first) but never went beyond that. Which is good news.

After all the excitement, everyone had a snack and then took a nap.

*If you turn up the volume, you can hear mom say "Tommy" in the background. Mom cat was laying in the hall to mom's left and Tommy walked by and hissed at her.

already adopted.....

OK - we know what you are thinking.....nope - that isn't what we are talking about. MOL

When mom took Caramel in for his vaccinations, the rescue lady asked if our bathroom was empty. Since Caramel was leaving that night (and hadn't been in the bathroom for over a month) mom said yep!

Seems that a momma cat had come in with bigger kittens and the momma cat was spayed - though she still had some milk. And then.....an orphaned baby came in. It was worth a try, so they introduced the kitten to the momma cat (named Marble). And Marble decided to adopt that baby. The concern was that Marble wasn't producing enough milk for the kitten (Silver) so they were supplimenting. Mom said that she would be willing to help if they wanted. So, Marble and Silver came home with her last night. Mom set them up in the bathroom and put the blankets in a laundry basket to contain the baby.

my babeh...hands off

Mom has tried to suppliment Silver, but s/he isn't so sure about the bottle. And when s/he screams, Marble comes over and stands up to give mom the stink eye. (mom isn't sure is Silver is a boy or a girl yet)

Silver in the basket

hey!! bring dat back here....

So, since Silver doesn't act hungry, mom is just keeping on eye on everything. And Marble LOVES that baby....  In fact, mom went in to check on them around 4am and the laundry basket was EMPTY!! Mom looked over and Marble was in the corner on another blanket, Silver curled up next to her asleep.

The laundry basket was removed and a big soft bed put in place. Nope - Marble was to sleep in the corner and keeps moving Silver. So, mom spread the fleece blankets across that half of the bathroom.

Dis is a little better than the basket, but that corner looks good too

look - eyeballs....age guesstimate 10 days or so

Need more cute?  Lee County Clowder has a bottle baby - the neighbors found it and brought it to them to raise.
