November 10, 2025

Jira and Rai moved to a partner store on Saturday. They are 100% but need to be exposed to more people and new things. Plus while they are on the rescue website, adoptions are always faster when people can see them for themselves.

In the meantime, there was a family of cats living near a rehab center. Mom and dad will be TNR'd but the kittens aren't totally wild so we are going to give them a shot. Mom picked them up on Thursday. One boy and two girls about 3 months old. The tortie seems less freaked out, the orange is hissy and the calico would like us all to drop dead. Haha. Our friend Miss Heather does more with hissy kittens and came over on Saturday to give her opinion. Shes thinks they will be ok with some time and work.

After some thought, mom moved the tortie out to the crate in the living room to see if that little girl will socialize a little faster.

Now for names. As you know, we love a them and mom thinks she's funny. So please meet the traffic kittens:

Have a great week everyone!

Nov 3 2025

Since we are generally posting once a week on Mondays, mom is trying a new title strategy and just using the date. Not exciting or anything but easier.

Jira and Rai are doing SO much better. Jira now will come up and ask for pets and then snuggles in for attention. Rai still takes some encouragement but doesn't mind being held. They weirdly still run if mom gets up to walk around but that may just be them.

Also Mocha is back taking a break from the store. NO idea how she isn't adopted yet. She is absolutely adorable and very sweet. Great with the other cats too. Plus she was tested on stairs and immediately figured them out.

Also on break is another kitten named Swayze. He's very good with the cats but a little unsure of mom. They both got here Saturday afternoon so he no doubt just needs a couple of days.

Otherwise we seemed to skip the nice open windows part of fall and skipped right to the dang it's chilly part. Of course that means the heat is on so yay floor vents.

We hope all is well with all of you. Send sone good adoption vibes this way!

Kitten report

Be sure to always carefully store your tabby cats.

Sparrow will go back to the shelter on Friday ready for adoption. She's been a very good girl and would be a great addition to any home. She has had a great time playing with Boba and Buttons as well.

The tuxedo boys are making progress. Jira (lighter face) has started to purr when held and relax more. Rai is still more uncertain. They do both run around in circles when mom goes into the room so it will be a little bit before they get any freedom. Fortunately they do like food and especially churu.

Peaceful

The coffee kittens are back at the partner store and with another foster. Teenage kitten energy is a thing and it feels a little more chill here. Cortada was adopted on Friday. A family was interested in Gelato but changed their minds when they got there. No worries- we are glad they decided to adopt.

The spice boys are now in the foster room. They are still a little skittish but getting better.

We also have a visitor from the shelter for a couple of weeks. Sparrow is a little older and recovering from a cold. She is loose in the house. Which is ok though mom kicked her out of bed the other night cause she snores.

Otherwise we are enjoying some cooler weather and open windows.

Slowing down

Kitten season is mostly coming to a close here in the mid-west. With the rescue it will likely be shifting kittens in and out of partner stores. Most Petsmart store have time restrictions and this rescue does 2 weeks in with one week out.

Mom picked up a couple of boys on Sunday who will both be here about a week.

The rescue also took in a group of 4 tuxedo kittens about a week ago (you've seen them on our social media if you follow us).

Since they are a bit spicy, they are named after Indian spices. We took 2 and our friend Miss Heather took 2. We have Jira (cumin) and Rai (mustard seed).

They were a little hissy when they first got here (their mom is truly feral so was spayed and released back to her colony). They are slowly getting more adjusted. It is interesting as they are very interested in the resident cats.

At least with this time of year, spay/neuter appointments are easier to get. So these boys will be neutered on Tuesday. Then it is just working on more socialization.

Also Buttons gets on the sofa and sits like this. It makes mom laugh

Almost October

Not that you can tell by the weather. Mom has to close the windows in the afternoon and the air conditioner is still on. Really in the 80s? We want fall!!

Anyhow....

Columbus went back to the shelter on Friday. Mom can't tell if she got adopted quickly or just isn't on the website yet. Hopefully she finds her family quickly.

We know lots of rescues and shelters are struggling for adoptions. Not ensure but mom suspects economic stuff. If you are able, your local rescue could use any help you can give. Even just sharing adoption or donation requests.

Marisol went home on Saturday. And the family also decided at the event to adopt another slightly older kitten named Thin Mint. They did 7 adoptions on Saturday which helps ease some pressure.

And just in time since the rescue took in 4 spicy kittens. Their mom was spayed and is back with her colony since she is feral. The kittens are about 6 weeks old and while not sure about people right now (they came in on Friday) they should socialize pretty quickly. We took 2 and Miss Heather took the other 2. Right now they hiss at mom but are totally fascinated by the other cats in the house so that helps. They are named after Indian spices. Meet Rai (mustard seed) with the mostly black face, and his brother Jira (cumin seed).

Off to the store

Cortada, Latte and Gelato went this morning to the partner store for the rescue. Hopefully their forever families will find them quickly.

Mom found this cute cat ghost house from the local Aldi. Its been a hit.

Columbus came back from the rescue for a week. Right now it's her, along with Mocha and Marisol from the rescue. We suspect things will probably start slowing down as fall breaks out here.

Adoptions have been a little slow so cross your paws for the rescue and shelter. The more adoptions, the more people we can help in the future.

Fun and games

First, adoptions: Cincinnati, Zanesville and Pinwheel have all been adopted.

Gelato is currently in baby jail. She came down with a virus and will be in there until she's better. She will be more tha happy to tell you her life is terrible and she wants out.

To help our friend Miss Heather, 3 of her foster kittens are here. They are on break from the store and should go back next weekend. There were 7 total named sterling coffee drinks. Cortada (brown/white tabby) Mocha (brown tabby) and Latte (tuxedo) are with us.

Mocha actually has very mild CH as well.

Marisol has been allowed some freedom time out of the crate and is having a good time running around. Thankfully she has stopped growling and hissing at the permanent residents.

Also mom bought a cute ghost house from Aldi.

Welcome

It may not be spring but we still have kittens.

Gelato has a virus so she's shut back in the foster room. She is NOT happy about it either.

That does mean we have an open spot so there is a new single kitten in the living room crate.

She very cute and sweet. Just need to get her on the spay schedule.

Adoptions are pretty slow though so the rescue has to limit intakes to make sure they aren't overloaded.

So cross your paws for adoptions.

Meet Gelato

We got a text on Friday asking if we would be willing to foster a single kitten. She had been found by another rescue volunteer and needs fostered until she can be spayed.

Meet Gelato: gray and white, female, 3 1/2 months old (give or take)

She found a corner and slept most of Friday.

She's very curious and people friendly.

Since she's by herself, mom took her on Saturday to be tested for FIV/FeLV. Both negative so she was free to be loose in the house.

Mom helped the rescue on Sunday at a festival booth.

Monday was a holiday so Gelato got her freedom. As normal, the residents take a little bit to adjust to new kittens, but she was very respectful.

She will get on the surgery schedule to be spayed and then she's ready for adoption.

Crate update

The foster room is hard to divide so to have more space we had been using a pop up playpen in the living room. This mostly worked though they aren't the easiest things to clean. After some thought (and a pop up being destroyed), mom started looking for a better solution. She found a crate but furniture piece. It looks nice but is functional.

However, it was very short. Obviously since its meant for dogs. However a kitten could get in a back corner and was just harder to catch. Like all foster plans, there are always many steps as you look for a workable solution.

First step - can it be taller? Bed riser for the win. However that created a new problem ' space under the crate.

You wouldn't think this was a huge deal, but if the kittens were to have more space to run around they can't be allowed underneath or they will escape into the house. So block the front. After some thoughts, cardboard seemed the easiest first choice.

From there is was use the tall tespo panels as walls and we have a new fix. It did take a couple of tries on where to attach the panels so the kittens can't climb the crate to escape.

This set up is with supervision only. If no one is home they are in the crate. But for right now this is working pretty well.

Weekend news

Sapphire and Peridot were adopted together!! Love that.

Pinwheel is now down at the partner store sharing space with Malachite

The Ohio girls are doing well. Still a little hand shy but not terrible. Mom's been connecting the smaller playpen to the crate which gives them more room to run around. Only under supervision but its a little more space.

And with 3 kittens from the rescue temporarily in the foster room on meds for a cold, we are full up.

Hopefully they are feeling better soon and adoptions for the rescue pick back up. August is usually slow with vacations and back to school.

Hope all of you are doing well and sending purrs to those that need them.

Let's see...

The gem stone kittens were back here for a weekbreak from the store and went back on Saturday. Hopefully they get adopted quickly. They are really great kittens but have hit the long leggy teenager stage.

The crate in the living room has 3 littler girls from the shelter. They were on meds but now just need to grow and get used to people. They were mildly hissy when we got them and being medicated for a week didn't make them like mom much. Next couple of weeks will hopefully just be fun.

Pinwheel is still here waiting for adoption or a spot at the store. She just loose in the house and hanging out.

Sunday mom took a road trip to help the rescue pick up a pallet of canned kitten food. Mom's not sure how it works but there's a group that coordinates and offers it to rescues at a steep discount.

It is pretty hot while loading so mom was drinking a lot of water on the way home.

Hope all of you are well. Keep cool and safe.
