Weekend report

 Orange kitten report: of the 7, 2 of them have been adopted. Yay!!!

Valencia is healing up well and she and Cara will likely go to the partner store this week. Mom would like her wearing the cone for a few more days. 

Mom did put up the air lock gate and opened the foster room door. Cara was unamused by Chanel.

The weather got nice on Sunday so mom cracked the windows open a little for some fresh air.

Still a little early for little kittens here but should be soon.

In the meantime, these two are enjoying the quiet.

Oranges and food puzzles

 The oranges were all spayed and neutered on Friday. Next step adoptions. We did get a couple kittens wrong: Seville is a girl and Cara is a boy so now maybe CC).

Mom broke out the food puzzle again and this time Boba figured out all the doors that were closed (2 of them). 

Chanel was a little more confused by the puzzle. She can get treats out of the open doors then relies in Boba to open the other doors. Which isn't exactly how it's supposed to work but points for figuring it out in her own way.

We are behind on updates

 No little kittens yet, but a woman reached out to the rescue last week and the rescue took in 7 kittens about 4 months old. The rescuer said they came from a hoarding situation with lots of cats in a mobile home. She's working with the lady but for now this crew us out and safe. 

Two girls and five boys. And they all look very much alike. Mom and her friend Heather are fostering so the kittens are divided 4 with her and 3 here. They are scheduled for surgery on Friday. 

The kittens are named after oranges. The three here are:

Cara Cara (female)

Tangelo (male)

Valencia (female)

They are being treated for ear mites and the girls have hunky eyes being treated as well.

The boys are all super friendly while the girls are a little shyer but not much.

The car kittens are still available and waiting for their forever families. 

Updates (really)

 We got a few updated pictures recently....

The kittens formerly known as Selkie and Gargolye from the Mythical Kittens (now Jovie and Buddy). As you can see they are very helpful.

We also got an update on Langford from the Spartan Kittens now known as Quintin. He is doing well and his mom and dad are actually looking for a new companion for him. Nobody from here as they want someone closer to his age and size.

Our last update is from kittens we had back in 2014. We get an update once a year or so from their mom. They were the orange kittens here and now Ike and Izzie. Ike was diagnosed with HCM which is a heart disease. He has an electrocardiogram each year and this year they got the news that he is getting worse and they increased his meds. He could go down hill quickly or they may have more time with him - there just isn't a good way to know how he is going to do moving forward. So please spare his mom and fuzzy sister some purrs.

Random Fridays

Our friend Miss Connie wanted to know why if we had London, we didn't name the other meezer kitten France....yes, she went there.....

Ummmm - cause France is a country not a city.....MOL

The city kittens are doing better. They are cleaned up a bunch, though now both of the meezer boys are snotty. The three kittens are all on meds...Cairo has a runny eye. Morocco has gotten out of being medicated cause mom says she is a wench about it and mom doesn't want to be a blood donor. MOL  As for telling the meezers apart, one is slightly bigger than the other, but mom hasn't had much time to spend trying to sort it out. We suspect they will end up wearing collars.....or with initials in their ears.

Taquito ended up at the v-e-t yesterday. Mom is keeping the fiesta kittens in the play pen at night. After the conference she was reminded that sleeping with kittens doesn't always result in sleep. Anyhow, she let them out Wednesday morning and Taquito was limping - not putting one back foot down. Mom took a look and there wasn't anything evident. As of yesterday morning, she really wasn't using it.

Adoption event on Sunday. No one from here will be going. Mom called to make the spay/neuter appointments for the biggest of the fiesta kittens and they can't get in until next Wednesday.

Could we ask for some purrs too please??  Our former foster kitten Ike (Clementine) was diagnosed with HCM. They are just a year old and their mom is pretty upset. (our mom is too)

Well, mom gets updates from their new mom and dad and they are doing great:

Mom thinks the darker on is Ike (Clementine) but has to admit she isn't sure. They are the light of their new momma's life and keep her entertained. We do hear they were interested in the Christmas tree at first but eventually left it alone. MOL

Blog the Change

We talk about the rescue where mom volunteers all the time. It is where our foster kittens come from and go back to for adoptions. Many volunteers maintain colonies of feral cats and there is a huge outreach for TNR.

Well, a local radio station each year honors 20 Outstanding Women.

This year, Miss Mona, our fearless leader is one of the women being honored!!! We couldn't be more excited or more proud.

The reception is tomorrow night and we are sending mom as our representative. Here is some of what was said on the website:
Colony Cats Adoption Center opened in 2009 to provide a place for potential adopters to visit some of the great cats and kittens in need of a home. They provide a cage free environment for people to interact with the cats. Colony Cats also has been instrumental in getting over 9,500 community cats sterilized. They assist colony caretakers with shelters, trapping, food, medicine, and vet care. Since their inception, Colony Cats has placed over 7,500 cats in forever homes. “We offer assistance to pet owners when things are rough for them. Quite often, just supplying food and flea prevention is all that is needed to keep that pet in the family. We have helped several families and individuals by temporarily holding their pets until they could find another living situation. Everything we do is for the animals. Many lives have been saved because of the assistance we offer.” 

All these kittie families were saved, spay/neutered and 

adopted because of Mona and Colony.

Year 2014 in review (part 2)

July found Mae West outside our condo. She was already spayed, so after being tested she went to the rescue to find a home (still looking for a home by the way). She is adorable....and chatty. MOL

We posted an update on the geology kittens. And Pearl got adopted....by a family in Michigan. Katniss reappeared (thank cod). Mica and Amber were adopted (separately). And we had some oranges arrive at the house.

August brought us Check Your Chip Day (we were disappointed to discover it was about microchips not potato chips), Black Cat Appreciation Day (Mo says that should be EVERY day), and a state of the cats report. Baby jail got an upgrade and Cass and the alcohol kittens arrived. Unfortunately a famous blogger Sparkle left us. And Coral became a permanent member of the house.

September got us an update on those alcohol kittens. Kahlua joined their family and Stoli and Sangria got some time out in the living room....and made Coral look HUGE.

We gotted a new carrier...that became a mancat cave. And lots of adoptions: Ash, Quartz, Sunshine and Clementine and Tangerine (together).


October - a month mom wishes she could have skipped. Coral started getting sick...and got sicker...and ran for the Bridge. She was six months old. Stupid FIP.

But, we gotted a new water fountain, celebrated National Feral Cat Day, mom went to an art retreat and then headed to BarkWorld/MeowWorld.


November gave us mom's report from the conference. We had a feel good story about Aiden. Tim and Tom had to go visit the v-e-t for their snot. And....we gotted a gingerbread house!!!

December brought a good house trashing (nothing some packing tape couldn't fix). Some weird test results and having Stoli and Sangria get adopted together. Plus we had a great time celebrating with other bloggers with the Santa Kitty Toy Hop, Pet Bloggers' Gift Exchange and Secret Paws. Plus of course Christmas. And, helping to heal our hearts, we added Daiquiri to the family as a permanent member.

We wish ALL of you a wonderful, peaceful and healthy 2015. There have been some joys and some losses this past year....for us and for our friends. Mom swears she is going to resolve to help us comment more often, but know that we are reading and following...even when mom falls down on the job. We are looking forward to more fostering next year and BlogPaws in Nashville in May.

Clementine and Tangerine

Sorry this is a little late going up - wanted to make sure they were both cleared to have surgery today before we started celebrating!!

Mom let the oranges out Friday evening and then again on Saturday for the weekend. Tangerine is a little more skittish than her brother, but they had a blast running around like nuts.

Clem may have runny eyes for a while. No matter what drugs he gets, they tend to run a bit. But his new mom and dad are aware of it and don't mind at all.

Tangerine is super sweet and we know she will come around once she is home and comfortable.

Good luck kittens!!! We are glad you and your mom were pulled from a kill shelter and were given a chance to grow up here and find your forever homes. They are being spayed and neutered today and mom will hand them off this evening.

And they should be easy to round up - they have already learned the sound of the canned food opening. :)

weekend wrapup

Guess who was adopted last week??? Yep, our momma cat Sunshine went home with her new mom on Thursday after she was spayed. Her new mom has other cats, two of whom are 1 and 2 years old, so hopefully once Sunshine settles in and recovers from surgery she will have some friends to play with. Mom already got a quick update and Sunshine escaped her room already and seems a little nervous but has also come looking for affection.

The little oranges are doing better and mom is hoping to get them spayed/neutered this week. And... once they have surgery, they have a family all lined up. And they will get to go home together.

Mom had some car issues on Thursday. She got Coral and Sunshine loaded into the car, put the key in the ignition and the car went....click. ARGH!!! (the girls learned some new HBO werds)  Fortunately mom layed on the gas the second try and the car started...she drove straight to the car guy and he replaced her battery. But it screwed up her morning and was money she hadn't planned on spending.

Coral has been doing this weird reflux thing when she swallows. Mom made an appointment with the vet. They think her system may be sensitive so mom will be keeping track and has pepcid on hand if she needs it. She is also upgrading her to a premium canned food. Oh...and her weight? 2 pounds 15 ounces. And yes, she turned 5 months old on 9-10. MOL The vet thinks she is fine and is just going to be a tiny cat. As always, she was very well behaved and climbed up into the arms of the vet, laid back and purred. What a ham.

And on another front, mom has been trying to find a treat Coral likes (for having a reward when they are out). Temptations - no. Blue Buffalo Yums - no. Freeze Dried Chicken - no. Freeze Dried Shrimp - no. Goofy girl....

weekend wrapup

Friday at work mom got a call from another lady named Miss Marilyn who also fosters and volunteers with the rescue. Someone found a kitten in a box. Miss Marilyn had been bottle feeding her but the head of the rescue Miss Mona mentioned that Cass is still nursing kittens.

Friday after work mom picked up another boy she had dropped off to be neutered (gray tabby boy - still trying to catch the white cat). Miss Marilyn brought over the new kitten. Mom got her home and after releasing the new guy, brought her upstairs. Cass was ok with the whole thing, so now there are four  kittens in the bathroom. The new kitten is black, medium length hair and FEISTY!!! She is going to give us a run for our money.

We asked our facebook friends for ideas on a name. We got some great suggestions. The ones we don't use will go on our list for future use. The name that got the most suggestions was: Kahlua. Works for us...the baby does seem to be caffienated. :)

Tangerine went with Sunshine to an adoption event on Saturday. No real interest, but we think Tangerine enjoyed being in a smaller cage with her mommy....she took the opportunity to nurse like a fiend cause Sunshine couldn't get away. Clementine stayed home due to his cold. He is still pretty snotty. Mom took him over to the rescue on Friday and got some fluids into him. He came home and immediately ate. Mom saw him nursing Sunday morning too. Mom doesn't think the clavamox is working, so time to talk to the rescue lady.

We got the windows opened. Mom says Mother Nature must have finally realized is it September (though she is muttering something about the hots coming back on Thursday).
