weekend update

incoming!!!

The weather got REALLY nice here starting on Friday, so mom opened our windows. Since she was home most of the weekend, she opened the screen door in the foster room and propped open the foster room door while using baby jail as an air lock to keep the kittens inside. Fortunately the kittens haven't figured out how to climb the gate yet, so there were no escapes. It was nice to have some fresh air and a cool breeze through the house. Supposedly it will be nice most of the week so we will have open windows for a few more days. Of course, it is August in the mid-west, so we know it won't last forever.

Of course, if the foster room door is open, some cat will have to go check it out. Daiquiri was in there a couple of times. The first time the kittens put on their stranger danger suits - we think more that they weren't expecting her to drop out of no where. After that, she went in a couple more times but as always there wasn't anything very interesting so she came right back out. Of course, this one time Ivy saw Daiquiri in there but can't defy gravity enough to follow....  MOL

weekend update

Well, it got cold again. Plus we got some snow Friday night into Saturday. Fortunately mom didn't have anything going on, so she spent a good part of the weekend doing....nothing. We thought that was a good plan so we joined her in her plans.
 There is a heat vent under that scratcher. It is a popular place to nap.

Mom has had fun watching Chanel and Sigourney play over the weekend. Sig is a very sweet girl and should be available for adoption by the end of the week.

weekend update

Not much exciting around here. Mom watched some sports on TV and yelled some, but that isn't really new this time of year. MOL

The brandy kittens went to an adoption event on Sunday. They are FINALLY over 2 pounds and are scheduled for surgery on Wednesday. They are all super friendly at the house with mom. Chambord did great at the event. Calvados and Kirsch were a little freaked out at first but settled in pretty well. Poor Calvados was first into the cage and then a couple at the dog wash set off a dryer...he lost it. Lucky for him the dog wasn't too happy about the noise either, so the couple stopped it pretty quickly.

Daiquiri actually got to meet the brandy kitten late last week. She wasn't all that interested but the kittens gave her the full "freaked out" routine. Thankfully she doesn't care when they do that.

The patriot girls are getting pretty social and are scheduled to be spayed on Wednesday as well.

Mom ended up taking Dandelion back to the v-e-t on Saturday. His lungs look better but he has some serious snot so they added another drug to his routine for a few days. The v-e-t also took an x-ray of his leg since he is still limping and in fact Thursday night was hopping around not putting any weight on it at all. Nothing broken or torn (thank heavens).....Dr B could see a bruise on the bone of his upper right back leg though - he must have hit pretty hard on something. Poor boy. He still isn't very active, but he should be on the mend soon. Mom couldn't resist the picture above. The back leg sticking straight out is the one he hurt. Notice the tongue sticking out....  MOL

weekend update

If it weren't for the fireworks banging outside, it would have been a perfect weekend. The weather cooled off some and mom opened the windows.

With the long weekend, she got stuff done early on Saturday. The cable guy came over and discovered we didn't have cable to do a fault connection. Fixed with a simple new cable. sigh....

The kittens are still fairly snotty but are getting better. And Hemlock and Sumac are getting friendlier (relatively speaking of course). They are all big enough that once they are feeling better, they will get spayed and neutered and then up to the adoption center.

mine ball....let's play fetch

enjoying some open windows and fresh air

will be hiding here until the banging stops

Fortunately the fireworks weren't too bad. There was some set off Saturday night that sounded like they were right under our windows. The kittens freaked out but rebounded pretty quickly. Daiquiri hid and then came out and found Junior for some sympathy. With the nice weather, the windows are open and it certainly is louder....but we want to enjoy the nice weather.

We also owe you an update on the flower kittens. Amaryllis is still at the offsite adoption location. She is doing well and seems to enjoy the big window by her cage. Dandelion got sick again and is in another foster home since we have the tree kittens. And....Muscari was adopted!!

Ivy spent most of Monday doing this:
Seriously....we don't think she moved all day. MOL

weekend update

It was COLD here!!  In fact, it snowed.... yuck!
take cover

Amaryllis and the kittens are all doing well. Mom weighed them last Wednesday and they were all around 8 ounces. She weighed them again on Saturday. Trillium weighed 9 1/4 ounces, Orchid weighed 10 ounces and Dandelion and Muscari both weigh 10 1/4 ounces. We have some seriously chunky and healthy kittens. Amaryllis is taking good care of them but isn't hovering, which is good too.

Orchid in the back, Dandelion in the foreground

Trillium to the left, Muscari buried under his brother

"what??"

Orchid is very laid back. Not much fazes her....which is good as she is the only girl. Trillium is also pretty mellow. Muscari will tell you about it when he is done but is willing to get along with minimal complaining. Dandelion is a drama queen. Pick him up and he howls. Amaryllis will come over to check him out but doesn't act too concerned.

weekend wrapup

Faygo
(no, she isn't normally that snarky)

Rootbeer

Fanta
(her URI moved to her one eye and it is a little scarred
but doesn't seem to bother her)

Strawberry
(mom didn't see Fanta back there until loading the picture)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The kittens were allowed out of the bathroom for most of the weekend. It went pretty well and they seemed to have a great time. Strawberry is mostly behaving...she parks herself in strange places in the hall and that makes Spud a little nervous, but Strawberry is pretty laid back about the kittens being out and about.
Daiquiri is having a good time with them. She isn't very sure what to do with them sometimes, but she has been good with them. There have only been a couple of times that mom has had to tell her to be gentle.
Couple of weeks and they go for surgery and will be looking for new homes.
weekend happenings
The kitts are about 5 weeks old now (give or take). They got their first vaccines on Saturday. They did well and are growing like crazy.
Fanta
Rootbeer
Faygo
(she has more white on her chest)
Strawberry
They have figured out how to climb the gate. We like this one since it is taller, but the bars are closer together. Daiquiri still sits right outside, but also still hisses at the kittens.
Strawberry is fine with everyone....so long as we stay OUTSIDE the gate. Tim went over the other day and Strawberry was NOT having it. Mom said the impressive part was how quickly Tim turned right around and got back out. MOL
The kittens are incredibly sweet and outgoing. Mom got to ask about their background...the rescue got a call from an apartment complex that found the family outside. Which means to us someone had to have kicked them out....mom is a nice girl, they are all pretty healthy and the kittens are social.
weekend update
It was a pretty quiet weekend. Jericho is now with our friend Miss Beckie. Mom is abandoning us for the holiday weekend and was concerned about leaving Jericho for the weekend with just the pet sitter coming in. And he was pretty snotty and mom wanted to be sure someone was watching him. Of course, that means she has to clean the bathroom....he has some projectile snot. MOL
Otherwise, mom decided to do some reorganizing in the kitchen. She cleaned out the pantry and put down some lining and then put things back....for some reason she kept saying non of us were a whole lot of help.
Otherwise, it warmed up a bit here - not enough to open the windows, but the snow is gone.
 hanging in the tree....waiting for someone to walk by to pounce on
even tipped over that basket isn't getting any love
check out Daiquiri's racing stripe - mom loves that white stripe down her back
 Kahlua found some sun on Saturday
weekend wrapup
Friday at work mom got a call from another lady named Miss Marilyn who also fosters and volunteers with the rescue. Someone found a kitten in a box. Miss Marilyn had been bottle feeding her but the head of the rescue Miss Mona mentioned that Cass is still nursing kittens.
Friday after work mom picked up another boy she had dropped off to be neutered (gray tabby boy - still trying to catch the white cat). Miss Marilyn brought over the new kitten. Mom got her home and after releasing the new guy, brought her upstairs. Cass was ok with the whole thing, so now there are four  kittens in the bathroom. The new kitten is black, medium length hair and FEISTY!!! She is going to give us a run for our money.
 Daiquiri in the corner, Stoli next to her and then the new baby.
We asked our facebook friends for ideas on a name. We got some great suggestions. The ones we don't use will go on our list for future use. The name that got the most suggestions was: Kahlua. Works for us...the baby does seem to be caffienated. :)
Tangerine went with Sunshine to an adoption event on Saturday. No real interest, but we think Tangerine enjoyed being in a smaller cage with her mommy....she took the opportunity to nurse like a fiend cause Sunshine couldn't get away. Clementine stayed home due to his cold. He is still pretty snotty. Mom took him over to the rescue on Friday and got some fluids into him. He came home and immediately ate. Mom saw him nursing Sunday morning too. Mom doesn't think the clavamox is working, so time to talk to the rescue lady.
We got the windows opened. Mom says Mother Nature must have finally realized is it September (though she is muttering something about the hots coming back on Thursday).
Hope you all had a great weekend.
weekend update
Keep watching Coral's weight page - remember that we want her to get to 2 pound 4 ounces (at least) to be spayed and that is the weight that will win. HOWEVER - she cracked the 2 pound make on Saturday when mom weighed her at the Petco store.  snicker.....
Saturday morning was a transport:
Willie is a 10 month old male bloodhound. He was bought from a pet store at 2 months old and then his family didn't want him. A nice lady took him in but with three other big dogs knew she couldn't keep him. She didn't do rescue and not knowing any better, placed an ad on Craigslist...and ran into a couple of scary people. Someone pointed her to Ontario Bloodhound. She continued to foster him and the rescue put him online and did the adoption work. And Saturday he started his journey to his new home. He arrived there on Sunday.....
The kittens went to an adoption event on Saturday as well:
No takers, but our petsitter Miss Rita and her sister happened to stop by not even knowing that mom was there....  :)  Oh, and mom put Coral on their scale: official weight 2.04 pounds.
Sunday mom ran the sucky beast and did some laundry and the rest of us took it easy. Mom told us to enjoy the open windows cause Sunday is probably the last day we will get open windows for a while. Back to the hots......
weekend update
 Pearl went home on Saturday. And whined the entire 3 hour ride. Mom seriously considered investing in ear plugs. She is cute but she was NOT happy being locked up in the carrier. They got to the meeting place first so mom put the harness and leash on Pearl and let her wander around the car since they were parked. And Mom got to have lunch with Miss Kelly from Whiskers in the Window too. Pearl is set up in her own space and it sounds like the other cats at the house have the typical reactions to the kitten behind the door - curious, freaked out or just don't care.
The lady hasn't come yet to pick up Mica. She is sounding a little flaky and we aren't sure things will finalize with her - depends on what happens in the next couple of days.
Otherwise, snoozing commenced and took place most of the weekend. Mom was getting ready to go on Saturday morning when a tiny black kitten walked by her in the hallway. Mom walked into the bedroom and then backed out when she realized it was Jet. She checked baby jail and Quartz was still in there. Jet must have figured out how to get out. The little girls were given their freedom on Saturday but Jet wasn't feeling well on Sunday and they are back in there together.
weekend update
It started Thursday night. Mom was taking pictures of the kittens. Ash was on top of the cat tree taking a bath and when mom tapped him on the head to get his attention she discovered an open wound (about 1/2 inch in diameter) where his leg meets his belly. After a moment of panic, she got in touch with the vet and off they went. It took 40 MINUTES to knock him out. He seems to have an amazing tolerance for drugs. The vet finally resorted to the gas mask. And now he is known as Captain Dingbat....and has 4 stitches. sheesh....  So he is here on the "injured reserve" list until he gets them out the end of the week.
Friday was pretty quiet around here. Mom did some laundry and cleaning and that was about it.
Coral is still here for a while. But the other afternoon she and mom took a nap together.
 Pearl has a home!!!  She will be traveling to Michigan this Saturday. Thanks to Miss Connie who posted her picture on facebook and that is how her new mom found her.
 Since Topaz had to be separated due to his test results, mom set up baby jail in the living room for Quartz and Jet. They have some snot but seem to be unfazed by the change in surroundings.
 Speaking of Topaz, mom's friend Miss Alyssa (who took the orange boy this spring) had kittens test positive for FeLV as well. She and mom went back and forth about how to foster the kittens. Miss Alyssa has a larger room, but she said she would take Topaz (who needs some friends - he is a lonely boy and it made him howl). Now they will all be retested every 4 weeks until they get to 5 months old. Hopefully they can all throw it.
Jade goes tomorrow to be spayed. YAY!!!  We know she will be glad to retire as a momma cat.
Amber, Cinco and Mica moved up to the adoption center on Sunday. It was fun having them here and they are on Petfinder, but we know that it will be faster to get them adopted when someone walks in and sees them in person.
The banging Friday night wasn't so bad except for the HUGE finale. Tim went under the bed. The kittens kind of freaked out when it started but calmed down when they realized no one else was freaking out.
