Updates (really)

 We got a few updated pictures recently....

The kittens formerly known as Selkie and Gargolye from the Mythical Kittens (now Jovie and Buddy). As you can see they are very helpful.

We also got an update on Langford from the Spartan Kittens now known as Quintin. He is doing well and his mom and dad are actually looking for a new companion for him. Nobody from here as they want someone closer to his age and size.

Our last update is from kittens we had back in 2014. We get an update once a year or so from their mom. They were the orange kittens here and now Ike and Izzie. Ike was diagnosed with HCM which is a heart disease. He has an electrocardiogram each year and this year they got the news that he is getting worse and they increased his meds. He could go down hill quickly or they may have more time with him - there just isn't a good way to know how he is going to do moving forward. So please spare his mom and fuzzy sister some purrs.

We love updates...

Do those faces look familiar? Top picture is Jovie (formerly Gargoyle) and then Buddy (formerly Selkie).

Mom got a text from their mom asking if the rescue could use towels. It seems a certain cat dad turned all the good towels like green when he washed them with a beach towel. MOL

The kittens are doing well. Jovie is smart and curious. Buddy seems to be a few fries short but is super sweet. His favorite game is bopping his older sister Zeta to make her growl. She doesn't do anything else, so we are pretty sure he now just does it for fun.
Zeta did decide the kittens were hogging all,the lap space however, so she just sat on Benny when he wouldn't move. Good job girl!!

Exciting news....

We had 2 cats still at the rescue that were our former fosters. Chester (formerly Kyan of the gemstone kittens) and Bissell (momma cat to the vacuum kittens).

Well....exciting news: Bissell was adopted and went home on Thursday and Chester went home on Saturday.

We are always excited when our momma cats get adopted. Concats Bissell.

But Chester came back to the rescue about 18 months ago when his family moved to Hawaii. They knew he would not do well in the required quarantine and decided to return him. He has waited a very long time. His new family is just a couple of adults and no kids. Mom sent them a text and he is already doing great. He hid for a couple of hours but is now out and snuggling and playing. Concats Chester.

This is our boy in his new home (Thanks for the picture L)

a Rooney update

Remember these guys from last summer?
the Rat Pack

Rooney from the #RatPackKittens was adopted by a very nice couple that have sent a couple of updates and emailed mom last week with another one that they were happy to let us share with you. They renamed him Ragnar. He and his siblings are about 9 1/2 months old now for reference. Rooney was one of the boys that lost an eye to infection as well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's been a while so I thought I'd give you an update on how Ragnar (aka Rooney) is doing. I can't believe we've only had him for four months! It feels like a lot longer.
He's still such a happy, affectionate and silly kitten. We took in a friend's cat because she was living in a bad neighborhood and had to get out but couldn't take her cat to her new home. His name is The Dean, and he and Ragnar are inseparable. They are constantly snuggling, cleaning each other, wrestling or causing trouble. Our other cat Fergus is pretty happy about this situation because he's a grumpy old man and wants to be left alone.
Ragnar loves:
-Belly rubs
-Chasing his tail
-Snuggling on mom's chest while she's watching tv
-Meeting new people and demanding attention
-Sleeping on mom's face in the middle of the night
-Any and all food
-Climbing to the top of the cat tree and then yelling for mom to come look and be proud of him
Ragnar hates:
-Not being fed 24/7
-Vacuum cleaners
-Anyone but him getting attention
-Mom or dad taking showers. I'm pretty sure he thinks we're in danger and tries to save us by yelling
-Going out in the snow (we tried it once, he cried the whole 30 seconds he was outside)
Thanks for being so willing to take in kittens and help raise them. We really appreciate that you took such good care of our Ragnar until he came home to us. I've been following your blog and I know this work can be hard and heartbreaking. I'll try to keep sending you updates on how Ragnar is doing.
Sincerely,
Dana
P.S. He still hasn't grown into his ears, haha
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ears or his feet.  :)  He is going to be a big boy if he is going to grow into those things. THANK YOU to Ragnar's mom and dad for the updates....we love hearing how our former fosters are adjusting. Sounds like he is one very happy boy.

a cutie update

It hasn't been that long since our Texas boy Bristol was adopted, but mom got an email the other day from his new mom with an update and pictures to share. His name is now Archie and his new mom says he is just the sweetest thing. He loves to play and cuddle with anyone he can pin down.

Thanks to A for the update....we love seeing our former fosters in their forever homes!!!

wordy Wednesday

you recognize this face right?
Isadora Calais of the French city kittens

Well, her mom sent our mom a message the other day and we thought we would share the exchange cause it completely made mom laugh.

D: Just so you know I just had to chase your foster child around the house to get the slice of Swiss cheese she stole off my sandwich

M: Hahaha....thanks for the laugh. She may have gotten cheese head lessons from Tommy. Did you let her have some at least?

D: Yes. I'm a total sucker. She's been stealing animal crackers for a while. I turned my back to put the knife away (she has no fear so I can't put a knife down anywhere) and when I turned back she and she cheese were gone. Under the table, down the hall into the living room. She managed to eat a quarter of it on the run. She's amazing!

M: And maybe some "brat" lessons from Daiquiri. Tommy stalks me when I'm eating cereal or ice cream. He is a total dairy hound.

D: Who taught her the love of water? OMC she loves water! She's been in the shower with me twice. I have to be careful as she doesn't seem to notice if it's hot water.

D: She's in the sink. Not content to supervise. The first time in the shower I had a head and hands full of shampoo and my eyes closed. She couldn't get out and I couldn't help her. I was crying and she was terrified. She was still very tiny then. She was scared off the shower for a few weeks but it now back to trying to get in with me. If I don't lock her out it takes three times as long to shower while I battle her. She's hilarious!

Apparently the tiny tortie also talks to herself as she walks around the house. She has her brothers under her paws and has made herself right at home. That's our girl.....

Random Fridays

Mom is going to have a drooly couple of hours on Saturday.....
~~~~~~~~~~
Mom also ran into Tostada's new mom last weekend. Our girl is doing very well - apparently follows her new mom around the house chatting up a storm. It took her a while to find her forever home, but it sounds like she has hit the jackpot. Mom did ask about the name and she is going to be renamed Sweet Pea.
~~~~~~~~~~

Both of the French City ninjas were adopted last weekend (not together). Apparently the secret to quick black kitten adoptions is to make sure they are the tiniest ones available. MOL
~~~~~~~~~
Daiquiri has a new hobby. She waits until mom is asleep and starts shutting doors around the condo. The bedroom door is closed during the day and then left open while mom is sleeping. This is the primary door to close. Normally Daiq will close it part way but she has gotten it closed completely - and one time actually got it to latch. Now she has moved on to closing the bathroom door (which is open since we have no kittens in there) and the door to the second bedroom which has all the cat stuff in it (which won't close all the way due to being blocked open, but that doesn't stop her from trying).
~~~~~~~~~~

Nashville has a new hobby too. Wake up the mom at 4:30am. He is out and about 24/7 and sleeps on the bed sometimes. The other morning mom rolled over....and there he was. And since he figured mom was at least partly awake, he proceeded to roll around and get all lovey....and stick his toes up her nose. She finally had enough and grabbed him and shoved him under the covers. Fortunately for all involved, everyone got back to sleep pretty quick at that point. :)
~~~~~~~~~~
We suspect no new little kittens for a while. Mom has a plan for the dining room. With two towers now, she wants to set things up so that we aren't putting kittens in the bathroom unless we have to. First part of the plan is doing some measuring to see what fits where, then she wants to plan out rearranging the furniture. Then get the carpets cleaned and reorganize. We will keep you posted on her progress.....
Isadora Calais
We get updates pretty often from Izzy's mom. The girl has moved right in and made sure her new older brothers know she is in charge. She spent the first few days in D's office and then got some time out when D was home. Fortunately for Izzy, D works from home part of the week, so she isn't in her own space too often. Nicky still isn't too sure about her so D makes sure Izzy is in the office when no one is home to supervise.
 Getting to know her brother Dusty
(while checking out the cat tree)
overworked
on the lookout
we are fairly certain she has mastered the "who me?" expression
Izzy did go over the baby gate in the first couple of days home (mom says she should have warned D about that - no baby gate holds kittens of this age)....D couldn't find her at first and eventually discovered her staring at the bed....where Nicky was backed up underneath whapping at the bedskirt trying to make the introoder go away.
D says Izzy is very sweet and outgoing and smart (took her very little time to figure out the toy puzzle). We are very glad that she found the perfect home....and we know the boys will love her. Eventually....
Oh - and she has apparently decided to be her mom's new office assistant:
TBT
Remember these two??  Tangerine and Clementine??
Well, mom gets updates from their new mom and dad and they are doing great:
Mom thinks the darker on is Ike (Clementine) but has to admit she isn't sure. They are the light of their new momma's life and keep her entertained. We do hear they were interested in the Christmas tree at first but eventually left it alone. MOL
weekend report
Let's see.....
Mom got up Saturday (we made sure it was EXTRA early) and took off for a transport.
This sweet old man is Rufus. He spent his entire life chained to a dog house and then was taken to a high kill shelter in Kentucky. Fortunately, someone stepped up and contacted Ontario Bloodhound Rescue and he was pulled and this past weekend went from a foster in Kentucky to a foster in Ontario. He was SO super sweet and just seemed happy to go along with whatever.
Then mom ran around and stopped at the adoption center for the rescue. There she found a cute fuzzy black kitten. More on her tomorrow.
And Sunday, the kittens went on an adventure. Jade and Coral stayed here. Mom knew Jade would be able to get out of baby jail and Coral is so little that mom just doesn't want her handled too much (which we know would happen due to the overwhelming cute).
First it was an adoption weekend at Petco. Mom packed up the four bigger kittens and headed off over there. She talked to some very nice people, Amber screamed a lot for attention, and a very nice lady bought 2 cases of Fancy Feast for Jade and the kittens. Woohoo!!!
Then it was over to the adoption center for their Kitten Shower. Mom says she wishes she had remembered to take a picture of the pile of donations. It was great. The kittens got to experience the outdoors - even a couple of dogs (Amber was unimpressed and gave one of them her best halloween cat impression). The exposure was always good and it helps the kittens with their social skills to be handled and have to deal with different environments.
Oh - and get this....as mom was setting up at Petco, she was talking to a man who was checking out. It was Milano's dad!!! She had been worried as she had sent a couple of emails but hadn't gotten any response (he admits he doesn't check his junk mail). Anyhow - Milano is doing great. She has bonded with their older daughter and even gets chased around the house by their rabbit.  MOL
Random Friday....
More on the v-e-t report:
Mo got the bad cat report. He wanders around acting all nice when they get here and then WHAM tries to eat people. Mom is afraid one of these days he will actually bite someone so the next visit will require a little more thought. Mom can catch him easy enough. But he is pretty skinny and can turn himself around which makes him hard to hold on to. He actually got a fang almost into the tech this time. His weight is actually up some (which is good - no body fat on that boy). And he isn't due for vaccines for 3 years.... (mom is fairly certain she heard the v-e-t mutter "hallelulah" MOL).
Maestro weighs about the same - which is a very good thing. Still waiting on the report from the v-e-t.
Spud had to be chased around by mom and then unceremoniously shoved in a carrier to wait for the v-e-t to get here. At least he isn't a screamer like Ivy somecat. He got weighed, vaccinated, toenails clipped and his ummm behind shaved (we told him it could have been worse - we hear some of the cats at Katnip Lounge are now nekkid).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We got an update on Saffron. She is adjusting pretty well. Mom knew she was going to be a tough nut to crack.....
seriously - you doubt that face would cause problems??

Mom and Saff's mom have been texting back and forth. Saff didn't come out much the first couple of days, but by Monday night she was letting them rub her belly. And as of the other night, she had met the other two cats in the house and checked out their climbing wall and the crinkly tube mom sent with her. She has even been out and snuggled on the couch. Though it does appear that she may end up being a daddy's girl. :)

Thankful Thursday!!

We have said it before, but we love saying it....

WE LOVE UPDATES ON FOSTERS AND ADOPTIONS!!
So, let's see......

Mom heard from Dagwood's new mom the other day (he had been adopted and returned and his paperwork was missing, so Miss Bev was calling to see if it had been found). Seems Daggie moved right in and has been wonderful. They love him lots and while Doogan (their 13 year old female) is a little hesitant, he has been great with her. So, it was worth the wait for the perfect match.

We also heard from the Dust Bunny's new mom. She is doing wonderful and also fitting right into the family. Her new older sibling isn't too sure about her but they got busted the other day ALMOST sleeping next to each other. MOL

And here is a serious flashback -

We had a litter of kittens named after nuts. And when mom left the humane society, she was able to tranfer them to the shelter where she volunteers now. Well our friend Miss Kelly was looking for a kitten for her brother and sister-in-law and decided to adopt Pecan for them. The nice part is when Miss Kelly goes to see her parents, she gets the updates from her brother who lives nearby. Pecan (they call her Squeekers and mom just can't do it) lives with a teenage boy and two big dogs....and from what we understand is completely in charge of everything.
 Pecan (June 2010)

Pecan (now)

And in an interesting turn, mom was at the shelter Tuesday night and was talking to a dad and daughter that had stopped in to look at the cats. Mom asked if they had adopted before and the girl said they got their last one from the shelter as a kitten and her name was Hazel.  Mom asked about the dates and it has to be our Hazel girl (Pecan's sister). She is doing very well, kind of shy but she was that way with us. :)

Random Fridays

First, we published Bourbon's story here on the blog. Mom was working on it for something else but figured it should be here. Click the tab along the top of the page.
~~~~~~~~
We got the REALLY colds here again. Sigh.....  we don't think spring is ever gonna get here. But it could be worse....some of our blogging friends have a TON of snow. Don't want that - no thank you!!
~~~~~~~~

No real plans for the weekend. Mom is going to take Licorice up to the adoption center over the weekend and have her in the resale shop side in a condo. That way she can get her own food, there will be no other cats and she can be seen by the public. Cross your fingers and paws!!

~~~~~~~~~
And we got an update on Cumin (now Julius). He is doing very well and sleeping with his new boy. They haven't introduced him to the dogs yet, but he is out and about in his rooms and greeting the boy and the mom whenever they go in. Good job!!!
~~~~~~~~~~

Have a safe and happy weekend!

Thankful Thursday - an adoption update

Most of you will remember that when Mom attended Blog Paws last year, she took Triscuit with her.
maybe 4 weeks old

"yep - I could get used to this hotel thing..."

"I think I hear some adoring fans"

Triscuit was a hit and while we aren't on Twitter, we understand she was all over it.

Well, the snack kittens turned a year old this month. Normally after the initial follow up, mom will leave contact up to the new families. Some keep mom updated and others we don't hear from. But... mom couldn't help herself and emailed Marissa and asked how things are going.

Triscuit is now Nala and has settled in wonderfully. She loves her big kitty sister and her mom and dad.

We don't think that sweet face has changed a bit.

Marissa - thanks for the pictures and the update and for adopting our girl.  :)
