adoption updates

Anyone who fosters knows that getting the updates can be the best part. We raise them, get them ready to go and let them go to new homes. More often than not we don't hear much after that and have to just presume that everything is good. Sometimes you get lots of updates. And sometimes you get one or two. We don't care how many....but we love hearing happy stories. Today we have three:

Chex is now Griffin. Remember he was going home with a family that had 2 older dogs and another male kitty his age. No new pictures, but we got an email update. He got home, walked right out of his carrier and it was like he had been there his entire life. What a relief.....

Rosie (now Rosey) went home with her new mom and her new girl right before Christmas. They have an older cat who still thinks Rosey is a little weird. But we got SEVERAL pictures of Rosey and her girl and they are thick as thieves. Their mom says they are always together and it was a great decision. This picture made mom smile.

Basil is now Loki - seen here snuggling up with his new big brother Apollo. He has given his new mom a little heartburn with some eye issues (probably a flare up from the cold he had here) and some tummy troubles (possibly a food change) but he and his new brother are doing well and his mom says Loki has taken to recently following her around the house and having a need to know about EVERYTHING that is going on.

so after yesterday....

We have exciting news!!!

Chex went home last night.  :)  The Petco store will call and then fax the applications if mom is at work (otherwise she just picks them up). They faxed it over yesterday and she had enough time to check out the things she needs to check. Then she called the lady and they talked about the current animals in the house and about Chex. And as of 6pm last night.....our boy is in his new home. He will share it with 2 mom, a couple of older dogs and another male kitty about a year old (S says that Chex looks just like him....mom has visions of the second coming of the blues brothers).

Congrats big guy......
Oh....and mom put one of the Petco clerks to a challenge....see Christian suggested to one of his friends to adopt Maverick. Then he was the one to work with this couple on adopting Chex. So mom said his next challenge is to get Licorice adopted - and he will get a prize (mom isn't sure what prize he would get, but she will do something).

A year in review (part 2)

July:
With Killian getting adopted and the rest of the beer kittens up at Petco, mom felt the need to bring home more kittens: Sorcha, Sebastian, Sierra and Screech

And then Licorice arrived....that has been an adventure (and she is STILL waiting for her forever home).

Our wordless Wednesday posts were dedicated to one of us per week. Most of July was taken up trying to determine what was up with Licorice, getting her healthy and less itchy.

August:
Sierra and Sebastian got adopted. And of course mom brought home more kittens - Hobbes and Mandy.

We celebrated our 4th blogoversary.

Busch and Miller were adopted together. We helped a former adopter rescue a kitten named Mitts. And Jake and Elwood came to the house as fosters.

September:
Stella was adopted!!!  And the pilot kittens - Goose, Maverick and Amelia (the Dust Bunny) joined us as fosters.

Mitts got adopted!!

Licorice finally was spayed, got her teeth cleaned and went up to Petco.

Spud and Ivy turned 5 years old and Maestro turned 19 years old!!

Elwood got to meow like a space-pirate.  MOL

And mom had an adventure with Junior that she could have done without.

October:
Tim and Tom turned 10 years old!

And we celebrated National Feral Cat Day. Especially our girl Allie.

Our cousin Max crossed the Rainbow Bridge. And Jake and Elwood got adopted.

And Basil and Saffron joined us as fosters.

November:
Oliver went to Petco, came here (in October), gave everyone the snot and then got adopted.

Rosie came to join Basil, Saffron and Amelia.

And Chex and Milano were returned due to medical issues with their family.

December:
Amelia finally got big enough and without snot to be spayed. Basil went with and was neutered.

Mom broke out some Christmas stuff....and made some of us wear it.

Basil got adopted. Maverick got adopted. Milano moved up to Petco. It was a wild weekend. :)

We got a special Catmas present from mom.

We participated in the Secret Paws gift exchange.

Rosie got adopted.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It has been quite a year. The blogging community has lost several members - you can see them here at the blog Our Rainbow Friends.  We have taken in fosters, and some were not strong enough to survive, but we know that part of fostering isn't always the good things but sometimes being there to help those that need us - even if it is help crossing the Bridge.
We have taken in 39 fosters this year. We have had some great adoptions. Mom has helped transport 20 dogs.
We wish you a wonderful, healthy and happy 2014!!  We can't wait to see what comes.
Changes.....
Mom has been doing the logic problem of who would be here over Christmas and how to deal with that and the pet sitter.....
Well, some of that was solved over the weekend.  And it is all good!!
 First Basil was adopted and went home on Saturday. Mom picked him and Amelia up from Petco on Friday after work as their snot had returned. Miss Beckie called mom on Saturday and said a woman had come up to the adoption center as someone at Petco had said he was up there (not sure why they would have said that, but whatever). The woman wanted to meet Basil, so mom drove him over. It was love and he went home with her that same day. He will be on meds for his snot while he adjusts to being in a new home. He will have a new mom and a big 4 year old cowcat brother named Apollo. In fact, his new mom posted an update on our facebook page - Basil is now Loki and did great at his first vet appointment.  :)
Maverick told Santa last week that he wanted a family for Christmas and his wish came true on Sunday. He is going home with a nice man and his girlfriend. Mav will be their only kitty.
Milano is now up at Petco. She was kind of grumpy with Mav (she moved
up there before he left) so we won't be putting anyone else up there with her
unless Chex gets over his snot sometime soon.
Rosemary and Saffron got to meet Santa on Sunday.
They are (currently) scheduled to be spayed on today.
(but the post goes up before they get there)
Cross your fingers - mom said if one of them sneezes on
a vet tech, she may have to scream.  MOL
Rosie, Saff and Basil on Saturday
So the pet sitter will have the permanent crew plus 4 kittens. Though mom said something about maybe taking Rosemary and Saffron up to the store over the weekend to see if we could get any takers.
Santa...we are ready
Ugh....mom found some Christmas outfits she tried to make us wear. We better get extra treats from Santa for this one.
Ivy wears the hat, but she also appears to be contemplating her next move against mom.
Rosemary wasn't too sure either
Chex was sure if his eyes stayed close it would all end
then the collar with the bells
Amelia spun around in circles trying to find that jingling noise.
Opt to Adopt
Chex and Milano are doing pretty well. Since mom was gone for most of the weekend, they didn't get out to meet everyone until Sunday. Mom intended to do it slowly when she got back from helping transport Garnet. But....Chex made a run for it and mom decided they are both big enough that it would be ok. She trusts us and figured it would be ok. When she got home everyone was doing well. Milano is jumpy and kind of unsure of herself. Chex is out and about though he is a little growly when we get too close to him. But they certainly seem happy to have a little more space. Mom did say they will be in the bathroom at night as mom doesn't want to chase Milano out from under the bed every morning before leaving for work.
Mom will try to get good facial shots and get their information up on Petfinder. No adoptions over the weekend, so right now they will stay here.
Basil and Amelia are feeling better and are no longer snotty. Mom is going to get their surgery dates set up and get them in. Saffron and Rosemary were snotty when mom got home from the holiday but are responding to the meds. It seems to be a bad year already for upper respiratory things.
This coming weekend is the Petco adoption weekend so mom will be taking the kittens there looking for homes for the holidays.
Chex and Milano....
Those of you who have been reading this blog for a while will remember the snack kittens who came here in March of this year. In fact, if you attended Blog Paws, you may have gotten to meet Triscuit.
Well a couple of weeks ago, mom got an email from the woman and family that adopted Chex and Milano. It seems their son (who is about 7 years old) developed some pretty serious allergies. They had tried lots of things but none of them were working. The whole family was devastated and wanted some suggestions. Mom has allergies and gave them some ideas, but it seems the little boy was having some bad reactions - in fact he would break out in hives if one of the kittens licked him.
So mom made arrangements for them the come back and we will get them up on Petfinder and to the Petco store when there is space and when they are ready. Right now they are in the bathroom and adjusting. Chex is pretty outgoing and happy to see mom. Milano spent most of Saturday hissing at mom every time she walked in the room (which is ok and understandable). They haven't been out to meet us yet, but they have to know we are out here as mom has seen both Amelia and Ivy sleeping outside the door. But there is no rush.....  And as of yesterday morning, both kittens were greeting mom and making all lovey with her. Chex got out of the bathroom and headed towards us with no name-calling, so mom said she is going to see about letting them out for a little bit.
Mom said she barely made it through it all without crying. She could tell the woman was very upset. And it seems the kittens were pretty popular in the neighborhood - and their son and the neighbor kids all had a party Friday night to tell the kittens goodbye. That did it.....mom almost lost it. She did ask if they wanted to be kept up to date. The woman said she and her husband had talked about that and really weren't sure. But she said email her and they can always decide later what, if anything to tell their son.
So, welcome back Chex and Milano. We are so very sorry it didn't work out. But you were very loved and are missed....and we will do our very best to find you another wonderful home (the family said they will be talking to people too).
 Chex
Milano
Mom did say that she doesn't remember Cookie being very big....so their daddy must have been a big boy. Milano is probably average size, but that Chex boy is a moose.  :)  And Chex is pretty hard to get a picture of as well.....he spends a lot of time rubbing against mom looking for love. Milano is a little bit shyer but is coming around. It is a lot of change for them.
