Weekend news

 Sapphire and Peridot were adopted together!! Love that.

Pinwheel is now down at the partner store sharing space with Malachite

The Ohio girls are doing well. Still a little hand shy but not terrible. Mom's been connecting the smaller playpen to the crate which gives them more room to run around. Only under supervision but its a little more space.

And with 3 kittens from the rescue temporarily in the foster room on meds for a cold, we are full up.

Hopefully they are feeling better soon and adoptions for the rescue pick back up. August is usually slow with vacations and back to school.

Hope all of you are doing well and sending purrs to those that need them.

News and new kittens

 Amethyst got adopted!! Momma took her to the big adoption event at Petsmart on Saturday. A family that had previously adopted came by not really looking but fell in love with her. Nothing yet on the kittens but paws crossed.

We are babysitting Pinwheel for a few days for another foster. She has 3 days of meds left for a cold but is otherwise adoptable. Miss H took on some hissy kittens and this cleared up at least a little space. She will be loose during the day but probably crated at night to give everyone else a break.

Plus these guys...

They are from the rescue and on meds for some chronic ongoing snotty issues. Two of them like mom, the other isn't convinced yet. They are Arthur (the orange), Calliou and Clifford (yeah yeah the orange should be Clifford...the rescue names kittens before we get them so its not our fault haha).

And Buttons has decided she likes videos posted by Miz Robyn on Love and Hisses.

Late update

 Mom was actually gone this weekend.

Let's see:

Dora and Blue went back to the shelter on Friday for surgery and adoption. Dora was adopted over the weekend and hopefully Blue will get picked quickly.

Honda was also adopted last week so that's good news too.

Amethyst is now at the rescue's partner store location. We haven't gotten any news on applications but we have our paws crossed.

The gems kittens went for surgery yesterday so they are now officially available for adoption as well.

Over the weekend mom traveled to Kentucky to visit a friend and help her at a vendor table at a cat show. Her friend is an author and had some of her books for sale. While mom is always going to say rescue first, it was interesting to see some of the breeds. These are Maine Coon KITTENS being shown.

If you are friends with mom, you may figure out where she was staying. Ham didn't want anything to do with mom but Ravioli was friendly.

Long weekend

 For those of us in the US it was a long weekend. Mom ran around some on Friday and had dinner with friends. The rest of the weekend was spent inside cause geez it is still hot here.

The gem kittens are feeling better and have surgery scheduled for the 14th. Amethyst was already spayed but there is no space at the partner store so she's still here.

Dora and Blue go back to the shelter on Thursday to be spayed then they will be ready for adoption too. They have been out during the day for the last week and have been fairly well behaved while mom has been working.

Otherwise it is all good here. We hope you are all doing well.

Yikes

 Well the gems have kitty colds. Oh the snot we have here. Amethyst thankfully didn't catch it so she was spayed on Thursday. The kittens are on meds and will be fixed in a couple of weeks.

Malachite is the least snotty. They got a new fuzzy bed and he has claimed it.

Honda went back to the shelter  and was adopted. As often happens this time of year, mom came back with more kittens. Dora and Blue (both girls) were on meds but also not big enough for surgery.

They are pretty sweet and go back in a about 10 days.

Adoption news: Panzanella was adopted last week by a family 2 kids and a dog. He's chill enough we hope it's a smooth transition.

Also, a volunteer took Ambrosia home from the store for a break and quickly decided to adopt her. They do have other cats but also enough space that she can get some quiet time.

We think Amethyst will go to the partner store this week. She has been out in the house briefly a few times and has been generally unbothered. Chanel got in her face once and got a hiss but Amethyst chose to leave it at that and walk away.

Otherwise it is miserably hot here and mom refuses to leave the house unless she has to for some reason. Be safe friends!

Busy busy

 Waldorf and Panzanella went to the rescue adoption event on Saturday. Waldorf had an approved application and went home. Panzanella is staying at the store hoping someone will see him and fall in love.

Honda appears to be snot free and goes back to the shelter on Monday. She is super sweet and playful so hopefully she gets adopted quickly.

Amethyst and her kittens go on Thursday for spay/neuter surgeries so they will be available after that.

Oops - missed a week

 Let's see....

Honda went back to the shelter on the 6th and they put her on a new medical for her cold. Mom was out of town so Hinda spent the weekend there and is now back with us for a couple of weeks.

Mom also brought a "fancy" crate for the living room (which is where Honda is staying).

Momma cat and kittens in the foster room have names. Mom is Amethyst. Kittens are Malachite (male gray tabby), Peridot (male gray white tabby with the tail light) and Sapphire (female gray and white tabby). They are all doing really well.

Also (welcome chaos) the 3 remaining salad kittens needed a break from Petsmart. Also mom had set up an adoption event with a local candle and bookstore so that worked out. Caprese was adopted and the other kittens there got lots of great attention. One is on hold and hopefully we get a couple more applications. They will likely go back to the store later this week.

A friend of the shop owner brought in the hat above. Some of us at the rescue are hoping we can get her to make more gor us to buy.

Exciting news....

We had 2 cats still at the rescue that were our former fosters. Chester (formerly Kyan of the gemstone kittens) and Bissell (momma cat to the vacuum kittens).

Well....exciting news: Bissell was adopted and went home on Thursday and Chester went home on Saturday.

We are always excited when our momma cats get adopted. Concats Bissell.

But Chester came back to the rescue about 18 months ago when his family moved to Hawaii. They knew he would not do well in the required quarantine and decided to return him. He has waited a very long time. His new family is just a couple of adults and no kids. Mom sent them a text and he is already doing great. He hid for a couple of hours but is now out and snuggling and playing. Concats Chester.

This is our boy in his new home (Thanks for the picture L)

Returns

Remember this guy from October 2012?? That is Kyan and he was part of the group known as the gemstone kittens. And older gentleman found his mom and the kittens on his porch and couldn't care for them so mom agreed to take them.

Well, as happens from time to time, sadly, he was returned to the rescue. His family was being transferred to Hawaii. Turns out that state has a miserable quarantine process to bring domestic animals in and he would have had to be kenneled for about 6 months - regardless of paperwork or anything else. His family couldn't do that to him, so he came back.

He is currently in the "zen" room at the rescue which has a door and is a place for cats to come in that is a little quieter and protected from the open space of the general population at the adoption center.

He is a BIG boy but so very sweet and a little shy. He loves gets pets but hasn't been brave enough to venture out of the zen room yet. Hopefully with time - though he can hang out there so long as he is comfortable. Mom has suggested him to a few people that she thinks would make a good home for him, but no takers yet. Oh - and he was renamed Chester.

Thankful Thursday....

We are still purring for everyone in Oklahoma..... If you want to help, World Vets is helping with the animals and you can always support the Red Cross

And, mom is BURIED at work after being off - she is skimming her reader, but we aren't able to comment much - hopefully we can whap her into shape over the weekend.
~~~~~~~~~~
Mom took Monday off from the green paper job to get stuff done around here and relax. Good thing too......
She got a call in the morning from a former adopter. Seems that a kitten that was adopted last December is not using the litter box. They had her vet checked and it isn't medical. They talked about things and seems that she doesn't like the dog. Or like the kids.  Which makes us wonder about the activity level in the house and how they did introductions (this girl was about 10 weeks old when she was adopted).
Then as they talked about what was going on around the house, the lady mentioned that the kitten had a complete medical workup.....when she was taken in to be front declawed.  ARGH!!!!
Anyhow, we are thankful today that the adoption contract for the rescue includes a "bring them back" clause - and that the lady did the right thing and called mom.
Yep - that is Opal (from last fall - Cleo's kittens that came to us from Miss Chrystal). So far she is doing ok. Spud hissed at her (of course, so did Triscuit). But she is back with us and she is safe and we will make it work for her. Opal did pretty well around the house for her first night on Monday. She kind of treats Triscuit like a toy (which results in some hissing from Triscuit) but within a couple of hours was out and wandering the condo.
Cookie was adopted and went home on Tuesday. So, Opal went up to Petco last night and will hopefully find her NEW home quickly.
Update: yep - Opal IS Emma's sister. Mom almost fell over when she saw Opal cause she is SO much bigger than Emma was when Emma went home. As for declawing, we do ask on our applications and will talk to people about it. While it isn't an automatic reason to deny, we will do it if we a bad feeling about people in addition to that (Uncle Bill was one of these). In this case, they didn't put that on the application and the lady said she only did it after Opal "destroyed her leather sofa". (and now mom is going to go off and mumble more bad werds)
Brat kitten....
(sorry - we know it makes your parents go "squeee" but it had to be done)
We got a treat on Monday night. Emma's new mom came over to visit Emma. We love that she is being SO understanding about still wanting to adopt Emma even though she is having to wait to take her home.
Anyhow, K was all excited. Her first comment was how big Emma has gotten. Guess it has been a while since she has seen the kitt. We see her all the time and she is tiny to us - though bigger than the pepper boys.
Anyhow - Emma.....was a BRAT!!! Mom finally had to open a can of food to get Emma's attention. Emma danced and sang down the hall cause she knows where dinner is served. But mom fooled her and wanted her to eat in the living room so she could get used to K.  But even then, mom went to grab Emma in the kitchen - and Emma HISSED at mom!!!! OMC!
K finally sat on the floor and mom gave her one of Miss Andrea's stringies to play with. Emma did come around and play a bit and let K pet her a little bit. Of course, Maestro and Mozart turned on the charm and were giving K some kitty love. And she was shocked that Maestro is 18 years old.
After K headed home, mom fed Emma the rest of the can of food. And Emma spent the evening snoozing on mom. BRAT!!!!
2012 in Review - Part 2
July started with some drama with the alcohol kittens and ended with Amaretto and Cognac running for the Bridge......
We did join the Cat-olympics and posted some pictures of us doing various activities.
The alcohol kittens were finally released from the bathroom and joined Doc and Sally in having some free time in the living room.....wow were they tiny!!
In August mom took off and helped our friend Miss DeLynn move to Utah. Her husband had taken a job with Best Friends and mom helped Miss DeLynn move one of the dogs and the cat out there. Plus she got to volunteer a couple of days before coming home.
In the meantime, the alcohol kittens were running around with Doc and Sally.
And yes....Bourbon is still a screamer.... (see video)
Mom continued to enjoy time with the alcohol kittens and Doc.....
In September we gotted a short term foster from the shelter named Poncho....he was a little bit older and had a good time hanging out with us....
Discussions were started to remove the bathroom door and replace it with something that revolves....
A kitty was noticed wandering around outside the condo. Mom finally caught her and discovered that she was already spayed and had been front declawed. Mom named her Eclipse and the shelter agreed to take her. Unfortunately, Eclipse is still waiting for her forever home.
Whiskey got adopted by a nice couple and has an older kitty brother to keep him company. Mom gets updates from his family and they renamed him Tucker and he is very well loved....
Mom spotted a couple of orange tabby boys outside the condo. Long story, but they ended up at the shelter.....and then ended up here.  Luke and Duke are a pair of cuties aren't they????
And then on to our big fall/winter adventure. Miss Chrystal rescued a mom and kittens and mom agreed to bring them here and foster them.  Their transport day came and they moved into the bathroom.
The fall and winter so far has been wrapped up with finding homes for Cleo, the alcohol kittens and the Gemstone kittens.  Cleo is spayed and at Petco. Gin, Moonshine and Bourbon are all ready to go - Gin at Petco, Bourbon and Moonshine still here with us.  Opal, Kyan and Cory were all adopted before Christmas and Emma is still here to gain enough weight to be spayed.
They had gotten pretty sick and mom asked for help from the CB - you guys came through and an auction was set up. Your support means everything and the donations were amazing. THANK YOU!!!!
We are all good here. Maestro is getting older but is going well for being 18 year old. We still aren't sure what is up with Tim's teeth, but he seems to be getting better every day - we did get an update from the v-e-t and it is not bartonella. They still think it is stomatitis which is an issue with his immune system. We know he is negative for FIV and FeLV so it is something else. The v-e-t is going to check with a colleague and we will go from there.  Junior and Spud still try to kill each other occasionally, but we think part of the tension this fall may have been Cleo being here and her tension about being around the other cats.
It is, overall, been a good year. Great saves, birthdays, gotcha days, rescues, adoptions and many transports.....can't forget to mention the slobbery kids mom has helped transport:
