Random Friday....

More on the v-e-t report:

Mo got the bad cat report. He wanders around acting all nice when they get here and then WHAM tries to eat people. Mom is afraid one of these days he will actually bite someone so the next visit will require a little more thought. Mom can catch him easy enough. But he is pretty skinny and can turn himself around which makes him hard to hold on to. He actually got a fang almost into the tech this time. His weight is actually up some (which is good - no body fat on that boy). And he isn't due for vaccines for 3 years.... (mom is fairly certain she heard the v-e-t mutter "hallelulah" MOL).

Maestro weighs about the same - which is a very good thing. Still waiting on the report from the v-e-t.

Spud had to be chased around by mom and then unceremoniously shoved in a carrier to wait for the v-e-t to get here. At least he isn't a screamer like Ivy somecat. He got weighed, vaccinated, toenails clipped and his ummm behind shaved (we told him it could have been worse - we hear some of the cats at Katnip Lounge are now nekkid).

We got an update on Saffron. She is adjusting pretty well. Mom knew she was going to be a tough nut to crack.....

seriously - you doubt that face would cause problems?? 

Mom and Saff's mom have been texting back and forth. Saff didn't come out much the first couple of days, but by Monday night she was letting them rub her belly. And as of the other night, she had met the other two cats in the house and checked out their climbing wall and the crinkly tube mom sent with her. She has even been out and snuggled on the couch. Though it does appear that she may end up being a daddy's girl. :)

Saffron

One of the hardest parts of fostering sometimes is letting a kitten go to a new home. Be it special needs or a special animal or special circumstances, some animals just imbed themselves a little further into a foster family's heart.

Saffron was one of those kittens. She had personality and charm. And thumbs. :) And she was here for a while.....

But, last weekend mom got an email from the rescue that someone was interested in Saff. Now, mom was on her way out of town for the weekend, but she sent the woman an email. They emailed back and forth....pictures and video. And then on Friday - Saffron went home.

She will have two older cat in her new home. An older kitty at 11 years old and one closer to her age at 11 months old. Her new mom and dad drove about an hour to get here to meet her. She was her normal grumpy self being somewhere not here. But after her new mom held her for a few minutes, she gave Saff to her new dad and she actually relaxed a little. While it has been a weirdly quiet weekend here without the booger running around and snoozing on top of everyone, we couldn't have hoped for a better home for her. Her new mom laughed and asked why Saffron hadn't been adopted before....mom said that despite her best intentions, Saffron had only gone up on Petfinder about 3 weeks ago.

And it seems it was fate. See this couple had a 2 year old cat that died suddenly. They worried and worried but after some time knew they were ready for another kitty and knew their youngest needed a friend. So about 3 weeks ago they started looking on Petfinder. And tada!!!

So....congrats to Saffron and her new family!!!

Some kitten

got her grumpy on last night.....

Mom was contacted by a couple that previously adopted from the rescue. Their boy Benny is now 10 months old and they know he needs a friend. They had seen Charlotte at Petco and found her on the website. Then they saw Jasmine at Petco and Charlotte was gone but Jasmine wasn't on the website. Oops. :)

Anyhow, mom sent them an email and they wanted to meet Charlotte. Mom suggested Saffron as well since she plays so well with Junior.

Last night mom got home and packed up Charlotte and Saffron. Charlotte occasionally chirped from the backseat and Saff sat in the carrier and sulked (which actually is an improvement since she normally howls the song of her people - LOUDLY).

Mom took Charlotte in first. They got her out and the couple cuddled her for a bit. Mom explained that first impressions are important but that it is the long term introduction that counts for more than anything. The husband brought out Benny. He hisses and growled and Charlotte just looked at him. Karen was hanging on to her and said she tensed some but never made a sound. Mom told them if it was going to go really badly, that would have been the moment. Name calling is always allowed.

So Benny went upstairs, Charlotte went back in her carrier and mom brought in Saffron.

Despite that sweet face, she does NOT like to go places. She was not happy but let Karen carry her around for a bit - curled up hiding her face. Jack carried her too, but Saff was decidedly not happy. Mom said they didn't even try to bring out Benny.

So, they are going to take Benny up this morning to meet Jasmine and think about it for a little bit and call mom with a decision. Both of them said they wished they had taken two when they adopted Benny (he was at Petco with his brother at the time) but oh well.....  Mom did say that with slow introductions (and she gave them some information to read) it would be fine either way.

We will keep you posted. But for now, Miss Saffron is NOT in the running. sigh...... Heck, she even growled at mom from the carrier when mom was putting her back in the car.

Saffron....

That Saffron is trouble. She is ALL over the house and in to everything.  :)  Being just over 4 months old, that is to be expected.

Like many kittens, she has a crush on Uncle Tim.

Silly girl....

The other morning, Saffron woke up right before the alarm and jumped up on the bed with the red fuzzy toy. Mom got up, tossed the toy into the hall and before she could get out, Saff was back on the bed with the toy. Throw the toy, turn around, the kitten is back. Finally, mom grabbed Saffron in one hand and the toy in the other....and got growled at as she exited the room until she threw the toy down the hall. Goofy girl.

She was playing with the toy the other night too....it was too dark in the living room to get video, but mom got some pictures.

Opt to Adopt - Saffron

A couple of quick updates:

1. Amelia aka the Dust Bunny was adopted on Friday!!!  She will be living with a new mom and dad and a 14 year old mancat. Mom got to see a picture of him and Amelia may just become mini-me. Mom already got an update and Amelia was settling in great. Considering how laid back she was here, we suspect the introductions went well.

2. Katniss is doing ok but is pretty unhappy being inside. So the outdoor enclosure will be cleaned out of snow and she will go out there probably today or tomorrow. Information we have read about relocations say it takes at least 14 days before they adjust, so she will be in there for a while but the enclosure is pretty big and has a nice house and food and water provided, so she is in good shape. Thanks for all your comments and mom said it was nice on Sunday when it started to snow to not have to worry about her.

Saffron came here when she was pretty tiny and has grown up with us resident cats. But at just over 4 months old, it is past time for her to find her forever home. She is super sweet and gets along great with everyone here. She has seen a couple of dogs at the pet store and would probably be ok with slow introductions. Of course, mom would recommend that anyhow considering the names that Saff called Cumin when he showed up. MOL

Saffron loves to climb up to sit on mom's lap for attention and even sleeps with us at night. Since she is polydactyl, her new family will need to pay extra close attention to her nails to be sure they stay short, but that isn't such a big deal.

Random Fridays

This was from the weekend. This would be Leroy....his butt was on the backseat, his front legs in the foot well and his head (with the cone) was jammed between the passenger seat and mom's elbow.

Speaking of bloodhounds, we have some sad news. Remember the pair that mom helped save a few weeks ago. Well mom got a call Monday night about the female, Summer. She was being fostered in our area and was due to move on Saturday to a long term foster that would help with her weight. Unfortunately her foster mom got home Monday night and Summer passed away. We know she had a heart murmur so that combined with her size we suspect is what caused her death. However, it is never easy losing a rescue and/or foster and our hearts break for the rescue and her foster mom. RIP Summer - safe journey over the Bridge.

Mom was off on Wednesday due to the weather. We got about 4 inches of snow and lots of ice and rather than risk it, the bosses closed her office. Our county was under a level two emergency which means stay off the roads if you can.

Random Fridays....

We got the REALLY colds here again. brrrrr  We even got a little snow and Tommy and Ivy were checking it out. No window whiffing here any time soon.

 It's the Dust Bunny.....yep Amelia is getting big. Kind of interesting to watch. As soon as a spot opens up at Petco, she and Saffron will be heading up there together.

 That is Tim and Ivy on the top of the cat tree. We have NO idea how that can be comfortable, but they were up there together for a while. (though Ivy does seem to have a minor spill over problem)

We hope all of you are safe and warm. Mom has seen Allie several times this week and it makes her feel better to see her. At least we know she is safe.....the last time mom got a pretty good look at her and watched her walk into the garage and she looks good.

Cumin was neutered on Thursday and home that night. He is very good with the other cats but still a little jumpy with mom. Hopefully being up at Petco (at some point) will help his social skills as well. Meantime mom can get him up on Petfinder.

Remember us telling you about the family of Sphynx cats that came into the rescue this summer?  Well, the kittens were adopted pretty quick but the mom and dad cats (King Tut and Cleopatra) took a little longer. But....they were adopted together a couple of weeks ago. YAY!!!

Mom plans to let Cumin out again this weekend and hopefully he will be a little braver and not hide under the sofa. Mom asked the rescue to help find him a friend (since Saffron thinks he is the spawn of satan and growls at him every time she sees him)....but it is a weird time of year for kittens so no luck. Maybe something will come in over the weekend, but if not, we will figure it out.

Update on our new cousin Scooby Doo - he had his first v-e-t- visit and did very well. And the v-e-t thinks he is actually 15 weeks old (which makes a LOT more sense).

It is supposed to be a little warmer here this weekend - not enough for window wiffin'....and rain. blahhhhh  Mom says she hopes it is a quiet weekend and she can just relax.

Thanks for the good wishes for Licorice - we hope her forever family shows up soon. :)

There is an adoption event at Petco this weekend, so mom will pack up the kittens and take them up there on Sunday. Mom would leave Amelia and Saffron, but she is hoping they will help socialize Cumin and she says they are 100% not snotty....and she knows leaving up there will no doubt make the snot come back.

We got an award from Playful Kitty.

 There are some rules involved and well....we are bad with rules. :)  However, you are supposed to list 11 things about yourself. Since we normally talk about US, we thought maybe we would give that part to mom.  MOL  You are supposed to nominate 10 blogs to give it to...we don't know how has had it or not, but feel free to take it.  Take it away mom.

1. My younger brother and I were both adopted as infants...so no, we aren't actually related.
2. I am allergic to cats. And so many other things that I take a pill and deal with it. LOL
3. I have a BA in Business from Grove City College in Grove City PA.
4. I went to law school for a year after college and discovered I didn't want to be a lawyer.
5. So I got my paralegal certification and now work as a bankruptcy paralegal.
6. I hate doing housework....dishes, vacuuming, laundry, all of it.
7. When the cats say I am a techno-dork, they aren't kidding. I really don't have many skills.
8. I have a serious milk chocolate addiction. Don't like dark chocolate except peppermint patties.
9. I love to read - mostly mysteries and fantasy.
10. I hate to fly....if I can drive, I would much rather do it.
11. I don't do very well in crowds - which is why I took Triscuit to Blog Paws as an ice breaker.

weekend update....

We want to let you know we will be hit and miss this week with the holiday. But we will be thinking about all of you and send you all love and health!

Mom took the girls to different Petco stores this weekend. Saffron and Rosemary went to our local store on Saturday. Mom spoke to someone who might be interested in one of the little girls and a couple of people about Milano.

Still no interest in Licorice, but she is obviously very comfy up at the store. :)

 Mom is very impressed with Milano....she has come out of her shell and is asking for attention and being very lovey up there.

Then Sunday mom took all three girls (including Amelia) to another local store. Amelia spent most of the time curled up in the bottom of the tower snoozing. Saff and Rosie weren't too sure about the whole thing but eventually figured out how to climb the cage and sit on the top shelf. Mom put the collar with the bells on Rosie and it was pretty adorable....and she didn't seem to mind at all. :)
