Amber sure is a cute little house panther. She has a few white hairs on her chest, but otherwise is pretty sleek and shiny black.

9 weeks old - Jade and kittens

Mom has decided to dial back the age of the little ones. Watching them and checking development, she suspects they are closer to 4 weeks old this week. Jade is still nursing them....though she is also back to singing the "I need a man" song. Hopefully that will end shortly and then once the smaller kittens start eating on their own mom can get her spayed.

That is Jade in the doorway. When mom leaves the bathroom door open, this is where she hangs. The problem is that the room behind her is where all OUR stuff is....and we know better than to annoy a momma cat. So mom doesn't leave the door open much and definitely not when she isn't home.

Topaz and Jet are in the left corner and Quartz is trying to get Pearl's attention.

Weights: Jet 13 1/8 ounces and Quartz 15 1/8 ounces

Topaz weighs in this week at 11 3/4 ounces

Snoozing away the day.

Weights: Mica: 2 pounds 3 3/4 ounces (someone will be neutered soon)
               Ash: 1 pound 15 3/8 ounces (and if we wait a couple of days, Mica will have company)
               Amber: 1 pound 6 3/8 ounces
               Pearl: 1 pound 4 3/4 ounces

And now the one those of you in the contest are waiting for.....

Coral weighs: 15 1/4 ounces. (snort)

Just One Day

For the past several years, organizations around the world have taken a pledge through Just One Day:

For 24 hours they ask shelters and rescue to not euthanize animals, pick up their cameras instead and do everything in their power to promote adoptions and save lives. The movement is spreading and last year there were over 12,000 adoptions. We followed along on facebook and you could see pictures being posted of empty cages and people lined up. You can check on their website for shelters and rescue in your area that have taken the pledge. During the day as cages emptied, some shelters reached out to local rescues that don't have actual buildings asking them to bring adoptable animals.

Was it successful everywhere? Maybe not....but that is a lot of lives saved.

We are lucky in that the rescue we foster for in no-kill. But the local humane society is open admissions, which means the clock starts running the minute an animal goes through their doors. Until people are responsible and spay/neuter, commit to a lifetime of care, and are more willing to adopt than shop for their next pet, lives will continue to be lost as shelters across the US are overcrowded and doing the best they can.

We hope you will help spread the word.....adopt, donate, foster, volunteer and educate!

no adoptions yet

On Saturday mom took the kittens to an adoption event. The kittens were pretty well behaved. There is an adult female cat there named Sara and she walked by and hissed at the kittens at one point. Amber and Pearl got on their stranger danger suits and hissed back.

But no interest. And Cinco is back at Petco with Cora. No applications on them either. Not sure if people are going on vacations and that is slowing down adoptions or what.

But...being out and about was exhausting:

 Mom is fairly certain that Tommy didn't know Pearl was back there.

Don't forget - today is the last day to guess on Coral's weight and win a prize for getting closest. You can click here and leave a comment....

Meezer Color Day

We don't have any meezers here, so mom went through our foster list to see what meezers have gone through the house:

Dakota (putting the moves on her brother) in September 2010

Geoffrey from November 2011

                                                              Sierra from July 2013

Pearl (here now)

And too prove Pearl is not just a meezer face, her voice is part too:

random friday

Last family picture before mom picked up the little ones and shut the bathroom dooe again. Sheesh Coral is little. :)

Cinco is still hanging here for a little bit.
The other night she found the bed (mom leaves her out
all the time) and slept with the mom.

we had to share these whiskers
Mom has been trying to get a good shot
of Ivy's whiskers for a while.
Pretty amazing huh??
And Mica is trying his best to
grow a magnificant set as well.

We hope you have a great weekend. Mom is off to another adoption event on Saturday and packing the older kittens off with her. So we will get a couple of hours of peace and quiet....

Jade's kittens - 2 months old

That just doesn't seem possible....

But we started here:

Hard to believe that they were so little. Now, they didn't get the best start in life, so they are a little behind the weight curve and will be with us for a little longer, but that is ok.

Amber has turned into a busybody. Now that they are allowed out (ok, let's be honest, they can escape baby jail and mom gave up....she set the play pen back up to use at night but otherwise they are out except Coral who is in the bathroom with her mommy and the little ones), Amber is usually following mom around trying to figure out what is going on.

Ash is constantly on the move. The only time he seems to stop moving is when he falls over and sleeps.

Mica is the thinker of the group. He will play with his siblings and us, but can also be found sitting and watching.

Pearl is slowly figuring things out. She is usually in hot pursuit of Ash though.

Coral is doing well. She is hanging with the little ones and Jade. Don't forget to get in on our contest to guess how long it is going to take for her to get over 2 pounds.  By the way, mom has been looking at the dates and snickering.....you all seem to have a quicker estimation that mom does. :)
Amber - 1 pound 4 7/8 ounces
Pearl - 1 pound
Ash - 1 pound 10 1/4 ounces
Mica - 1 pound 11 3/4 ounces
Coral - 12 5/8 ounces

Jet - 11  5/8 ounces

Topaz - 9 1/8 ounces

Quartz - 11 5/8 ounces

Hug Your Cat Day and a contest

Hey mom - don't even think about it!!!

We were thinking about a contest....what about trying to guess when Coral is going to weigh enough to be spayed. Due to her size, we want her to get to at least 2.25 pounds. She weighs just over 11 ounces now.

So, if you want to be involved, in the comments list your name and the date you want to claim. We will make a list on a separate tab on the blog. Closest without going over will win a prize (not sure what that will be yet).

Yep - she sure is little. Though Topaz (the new guy) is pretty tiny as well - but at least he is considerable younger. MOL

So, let the contest begin!!  We will take entries through June 10th and then get the new page up so you can see.

Adopt a Shelter Cat Month - Opt to Adopt

National Shelter Cat Month

How awesome!!!  As you all know, this is something we can all get behind. Besides Spud and Junior, we were all adopted from shelters (Spud was a rescue kitten and Junior was live trapped during TNR). Remember - so many animals lose their lives in shelter not due to their own faults but due to lack of adoptions. Adopt one - save two!!

Today we are showcasing three kittens that are available now at our local Petco store. They were fostered by our new friend Miss Alsyssa (the lady who took the little orange tabby boy that was born to EMC. He was named Rocky and has already been adopted).

You have already met Cora (the tuxedo) when she was here shortly before going up there with Cinco. Well, Cinco got a little snotty and so she came back here. Mom picked up Cora's siblings from the adoption center and they are all now together. Daisy is the white girl (with gold eyes - her hearing is fine) and Thomas is the gray tabby boy. They all get along great and are very sweet. Cora is more about finding way to get out of the cages, Daisy is a little shy but warms up quick and Thomas is just a lover. Their mom Sugar is white as well and was trapped during an effort to TNR. She is super friendly as well and gave birth to the kittens in the live trap. She is available too.

crazy weekend...

OK - maybe not for us so much....we spent it snoozing. :)

However, for the mom and for Jade and the kittens, it came with some changes.

Someone left 3 bottle babies at our rescue's adoption center on Thursday. Mom told Miss Mona (the lady in charge of the rescue) that Jade might be willing to take new kittens. This crew is 7 weeks old and eating on their own and Jade really isn't all that hung up on nursing them anyhow.

By Saturday am, it was agreed to try it and see what happens. Mom took Jade over and the introductions were made....
As you can see, it was a success..... Jade looks a little annoyed, but she laid down pretty quick and let them nurse. There are three kittens - one girl and two boys one boy and two girls. They are probably just about 3 weeks old. And mom caught one of them nomming some dry food and another some canned food, so Jade may be off the hook sooner rather than later (though mom would like to see them nurse for a while).

 "OK - so it isn't mine, but whatever"

Meet: Jet (the black female), Quartz (the gray femal male - who looks kinda like Mica at that age) and Topaz (the tabby boy). Topaz is tinier than the other two and not knowing any background, we suspect he may not be related, but is still about the same age.

Though - you could say that about Coral based on her size and we KNOW who her family members are. MOL  Speaking of Coral, since she is so tiny, mom decided to put her in with Jade and the newbies.

Which led us to another issue..... if Jade is in the bathroom with tiny kittens, where do the bigger kittens live???

Baby jail has been reconstructed in the living room (this was before Coral moved back into the bathroom). The playpen is set up and the baby jail/gate is being used as extra space. Although Mica decided he can get over it and Ash managed to move it, so that may not work. Our friend Miss Kelly (the local one) gave us a bigger exercise pen that may get set up. Mom was using it at the bathroom door, but discovered Coral could get out - THROUGH the bars!!!

So, how was YOUR weekend???  MOL

Random Fridays

Mom plans to take the kittens to Petco on Sunday. Good luck. :)

And our friend Miss Kelly (the local one) gifted us with a new BIG exercise pen that mom promises to break out this weekend for the kittens.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We hope you have a nice weekend....  that Jade chick is getting a little more bold. Mom leaves the bathroom door open and the gate up while she gets ready for work and Jade did some serious butt kicking while mom was in the shower the other day. Hormones....overrated at best.
Don't forget to get your bids in at the auction to help The Baby from Katnip Lounge. Today is the last day!!
Jade's kittens - 7 weeks old....
How did that happen??  How did time pass that fast??  It seems like just yesterday that Jade and Mica showed up and then took the orphaned kittens into their little family. Now they are growing by leaps and bounds. Don't get us wrong - they will be here for a while longer..... but they have certainly come a very long way:
Everyone has tested negative for FeLV and FIV. They are vaccinated and will be spayed/neutered and microchipped when they are big enough. They are sweet and outgoing and so playful. They are discovering toys and the joy of jumping on each other (and Jade of course).
Mica with the photobomb. Ash and Coral in the back, Amber stalking the mom.
Jade doing her guardian routine while Pearl voices her complaint
(yes, along with her coloring, her voice is siamese as well)
Amber: "how YOU doin?"
Ash, Coral and Mica check out Uncle Tim passing through
So let's see....some weights:
  Ash and Mica both weigh 1 pound 10 3/4 ounces. The race is on!!
  Amber weighs 1 pound 5 1/8 ounces.
  Coral is up to 11 1/8 ounces. (snicker)
  Pearl weighs 14 7/8 ounces (she lost a little....keeping a close eye on her).
Between last week and being tested this week, a couple of different vets have seen Coral. While the first reaction is "she is how old?" and "wow she is tiny", the general consensus is that she is healthy, just little. Our rescue vet did suggest maybe a full blood panel before she is spayed. Whenever that may be.....
