How awesome!!!  As you all know, this is something we can all get behind. Besides Spud and Junior, we were all adopted from shelters (Spud was a rescue kitten and Junior was live trapped during TNR). Remember - so many animals lose their lives in shelter not due to their own faults but due to lack of adoptions. Adopt one - save two!!

Today we are showcasing three kittens that are available now at our local Petco store. They were fostered by our new friend Miss Alsyssa (the lady who took the little orange tabby boy that was born to EMC. He was named Rocky and has already been adopted).

You have already met Cora (the tuxedo) when she was here shortly before going up there with Cinco. Well, Cinco got a little snotty and so she came back here. Mom picked up Cora's siblings from the adoption center and they are all now together. Daisy is the white girl (with gold eyes - her hearing is fine) and Thomas is the gray tabby boy. They all get along great and are very sweet. Cora is more about finding way to get out of the cages, Daisy is a little shy but warms up quick and Thomas is just a lover. Their mom Sugar is white as well and was trapped during an effort to TNR. She is super friendly as well and gave birth to the kittens in the live trap. She is available too.

sigh.....

We are having a hard time being thankful today. Mom got an email on Tuesday from the director of the shelter (remember mom volunteers at 2 places - a limited admission "shelter" and the rescue). Daisy was having problems at the shelter. She spent some time here with us getting over a cold and had been at the shelter for quite a while. And at another shelter before that for about 4 months.

The email asked for mom's input as Daisy was being aggressive with other cats and was attacking people. Mom once again told them that after seeing Daisy here, she was sure it was more inappropriate behavior due to lack of socialization - and that the stress of being in a shelter wasn't helping.

This morning mom got the notice that was sent to the volunteer leaders at the shelter. Daisy was euthanized yesterday due to her unpredictable and unstable behavior. While we understand their position, we are heartbroken that the place that intially took her in did such a disservice to her (and heaven only knows how many other cats) by putting her in a cage at 6 weeks old. We know that this shelter didn't want to add to her stress anymore and that they felt letting her go was the best way. We aren't here to criticize that and we hope that if you feel otherwise you will not comment as mom is heartbroken enough.

We know that some people will ask "why didn't you take her?" Honestly, she needed a quiet home with a cat that would have taught her how to act. While we could teach her, there are too many tiny kittens here and honestly, she was unpredictable enough that mom won't risk the tinies. We don't have enough space to separate her - which wouldn't really be fair either. And then once she was here, then what? The chances of finding her a family would be pretty small. There is just no good answer to a problem like this.

We hope Daisy is finding some peace over the Bridge. And we are sorry that there wasn't more we could have done to help her......

(we know some of you read about this yesterday on facebook but mom is still pretty upset and just wanted to get it out)

Thankful Thursday....

Today, we are thankful that we could give Daisy a chance to get over her snot.

And that by being here we got to work with her while she was here so we could provide more information to the shelter for her future family.

And now we are thankful she is GOING BACK!! She is cute and lovey, but she was pesky.  :)

Mom learned that Daisy was brought into a local humane society at 6 weeks old. She was put in a cage by HERSELF until she was brought to our shelter. She is now 5 months old. So, go figure she has some communication issues. She went up to Mo at one point, ears up, body relaxed, tail up, ready to play....and growling the whole time. But - with more info, the shelter is better able to find the right family for her.
