weigh in

Veria
10 1/4 ounces

Olympia
9 3/4 ounces

Argos
10 7/8 ounces

Sparta
10 3/4 ounces

Everyone but Sparta has at least one crusty eye so we are dealing with that. Argos apparently had other places to be than the scale. Delphi came over to inspect but didn't mind the kittens being weighed. They are starting to get around a little more but mom is trying to block the bed to keep them on it....with limited success.

fiesta kittens: 6 weeks old

They are getting bigger and more active. Fortunately no one has made it over the gate yet, but certainly not for lack of trying. Margarita is a bit mouthy with everyone here, so the gate is up and the door is open only when mom is at home to supervise.
However, with more activity, comes the time when kittens are less likely to hold still for pictures.... thus insuring that most pictures now are of them sleeping. MOL

But, on to the weekly weigh-ins:

Taquito
1 pound 3 3/4 ounces
still our littlest kitten

Tostada
1 pound 4 3/8 ounces

Queso
1 pound 8 3/4 ounces

Salsa
1 pound 11 5/8 ounces
our current front runner for heavyweight

Blanco
1 pound 7 1/2 ounces
he refused to look at the camera - take what you can get

Taquito is down a little bit from last week. There is a reason mom doesn't weigh them every day - it would make her nuts. As the kittens are getting more active, it becomes a battle of calories in and calories out. There isn't much of a difference from last week so mom isn't too concerned. She has now caught everyone eating on their own, so that will help.

fiesta kittens - 5 weeks old

Hard to believe that 5 weeks ago mom picked up these guys:

And now five weeks later, they are looking more and more like tiny cats. They got their first shots on Sunday. Blanco and Queso sang their own tiny whiny version of the song of our people. Mom laughed cause she looked in at one point and Salsa had fallen asleep.

The problem now is getting pictures of them....they just don't hold still.  MOL

Salsa - now weighing in at 1 pound 8 1/2 ounces
(the current heavyweight)

Queso - 1 pound 5 3/4 ounces

Tostada - 1 pound 3 ounces
(our tiny girl)

Taquito - 1 pound 4 1/4 ounces

Blanco - 1 pound 4 3/4 ounces

Taquito runs over to the plate when the canned food comes out. Salsa is eating dry food. And mom has yet to catch anyone else eating. We certainly think they are, but there is no evidence.

Mom left the gate up Sunday morning but opened the bathroom door. She turned around about a minute later and Margarita wandered down the hall. There was some minor name calling, but that was about it. Not bad for her first time out. The kittens aren't allowed out yet....maybe next weekend. Margarita will get a little more free time while mom is home to supervise.

Four weeks old

Wow....time flies. This time 4 weeks ago mom was finding out about a kitty family in need and picked them up the next day.
4 days old

4 weeks old

And now for the weekly weigh ins:

Taquito - 1 pound 3/4 ounces

Queso - 1 pound 2 3/4 ounces

Blanco - 1 pound 2 3/8 ounces

Tostada - 1 pound 3/8 ounces

Salsa - our big boy at 1 pound 3 3/8 ounces

They are sorta using the litter box and mom has seen Taquito eat some canned food but no one else. Granted, they could be eating when mom isn't in there. But watching their development too, we wonder if maybe they were a bit premie. They are right on target for weights at this age, but a little behind the curve on eating and walking and everything. Not that it reduces the cute by any means, and they are growing and getting along....just at their own pace. And that is ok.

Fiesta Kitten Report

The kittens turned two weeks old on Saturday and are making steady progress getting bigger and learning to use their short legs.

Queso - 10 3/4 ounces

Salsa - 11 1/4 ounces

Blanco - 10 3/4 ounces

Taquito - 9 5/8 ounces

Tostada - 9 3/4 ounces

Margarita is a happy momma cat and takes such good care of everyone. Mom is still trying to get a good picture of the girl - Margarita keeps blinking.

The kittens don't howl quite as quickly when mom picks them up now. They tend to look at her and blink a few times before realizing something might be amiss. They are pretty wobbly but getting around for the most part. Another week or so and then the sames will really begin.

Fiesta kittens 9 days old

Mom weighed them on Saturday when they were officially a week old.

Queso - 7 3/4 ounces

Tostada - 6 3/4 ounces

Salsa - 7 3/4 ounces

Blaco - 7 3/8 ounces

Taquito - 6 3/4 ounces

Everyone is right on track - the boys are pretty equal and the girls are just a little bit smaller. And as of Sunday night, everyone but Blanco had their eyes open at least a little bit. Apparently he has decided there isn't anything that interesting he needs to see.

Margarita the mom cat is doing great with them and is pretty lovey with our mom as well. She only really gets distracted when there is there is the possibility of canned food being served or when she realizes Daiquiri has jumped the gate and is on the other side of the door.

Weight day Caturday

We are running a little behind with this week's weigh update due to mom's vacation pictures. However, here we go.

Ash and Mica were neutered on Wednesday as they are big enough. Amber and Pearl are scheduled for next Wednesday.

Mica weighs: 3 pounds 3 1/8 ounces (holy moly)

 Coral weighs: 1 pound 6 7/8 ounces

 Pearl weighs 2 pounds 1 1/8 ounces

Ash weighs: 2 pounds 8 ounces

Amber and Jet refused to cooperate with the pawparazzi.  Amber weighs 1 pound 15 3/4 ounces and Jet weighs 1 pound 6 1/4 ounces. Amber is a lover and just gets SO close to the camera. Jet is actually a little shy and mom is working with her. And yes, you read that right....Jet, who is about 6 weeks younger than the older kittens weighs almost as much as Coral.  MOL

Quartz weighs 1 pound 2 1/2 ounces

Topaz weighs 1 pound  1 5/8 ounces

9 weeks old - Jade and kittens

Mom has decided to dial back the age of the little ones. Watching them and checking development, she suspects they are closer to 4 weeks old this week. Jade is still nursing them....though she is also back to singing the "I need a man" song. Hopefully that will end shortly and then once the smaller kittens start eating on their own mom can get her spayed.

That is Jade in the doorway. When mom leaves the bathroom door open, this is where she hangs. The problem is that the room behind her is where all OUR stuff is....and we know better than to annoy a momma cat. So mom doesn't leave the door open much and definitely not when she isn't home.

Topaz and Jet are in the left corner and Quartz is trying to get Pearl's attention.

Weights: Jet 13 1/8 ounces and Quartz 15 1/8 ounces

Topaz weighs in this week at 11 3/4 ounces

Snoozing away the day.

Weights: Mica: 2 pounds 3 3/4 ounces (someone will be neutered soon)
Ash: 1 pound 15 3/8 ounces (and if we wait a couple of days, Mica will have company)
               Amber: 1 pound 6 3/8 ounces
               Pearl: 1 pound 4 3/4 ounces

And now the one those of you in the contest are waiting for.....

Coral weighs: 15 1/4 ounces. (snort)

Hug Your Cat Day and a contest

Hey mom - don't even think about it!!!

We were thinking about a contest....what about trying to guess when Coral is going to weigh enough to be spayed. Due to her size, we want her to get to at least 2.25 pounds. She weighs just over 11 ounces now.

So, if you want to be involved, in the comments list your name and the date you want to claim. We will make a list on a separate tab on the blog. Closest without going over will win a prize (not sure what that will be yet).

Yep - she sure is little. Though Topaz (the new guy) is pretty tiny as well - but at least he is considerable younger. MOL

So, let the contest begin!!  We will take entries through June 10th and then get the new page up so you can see.
